Hello! I've been through so many games where it's grind, grind, grind. I was wondering if someone could tell me an open beta they know of with the least grind they've ever seen. It doesn't have to be open beta as long as there's a trial so i can test it to see if there really isn't much grind before i buy it, thanks!

Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.
MMORPGs are about grind. Unless you want a RPing game, like Seed, that's all you're most likely going to find.
Sure, there are a few without grind, but they also lack core MMO necessities like... combat? lol
And some have grind out the wazoo and lack combat - A Tale in The Desert, e.g.
Tormented echoes of a fallen Eden
I longed for her beauty
Yet from dust, she returned
The dream, an enigma.... silent
You won't find it ,because without grind you can't have levels, otherwise level 100 in a few days? that would be stupid.I believe a game without grind means you really won't be achieving anything with effort. If a game could achieve no grinding and no levels then it truly would have potential for greatness.
Keyword[potential]
The only other way games are making levels not as important is by adding skill points. This really is the exact same thing ,as once again you have to grind to achieve the skill points or guess what>>>>5 million skillpoints in 3 days, again stupid.
There is NOT one game that does everything right,so you have to decide what you like best in a game
crafting?..combat??..chatting??[don't laugh]look at the poll this site had.Perhaps exploring?Personally i was baffled at the poll this site had.It showed the majority of players were looking for friends or a place just to chat and hang out.Kinda sad really. No doubt a game would offer more than just a plain old java based chat room.Personally i like a game that offers an extreme challenge of my mental skills, while still offering great graphics and good physics.Of course it has to be fun as well.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I dont know why people hate all this grinding. I personaly prefer games that takes months/years to reach max level or whatever just so you know that in a few months you can still improve your character even more.
Maybe its the people that dont have much time to play but still want to be competitive and in 'hardcore' grinding games its very hard to do so as theres always 1 person that has no job and can play the game whenever he is not sleeping :x
Anyway, i was realy hooked on WoW at one point, grinded to 60 realy fast being very competitive... then when i got to 60 i realised i couldnt do anything at all as there was only a few people that i could party with so no instances was possible for a week or so which was boring... And once you've finished leveling and farmed instance repeatadle i got so bored.
Then they brought out the PvP Rankin system, new servers... so i started all over again on a new server... grinded super fast and was the 3rd lvl 60, PvPed to high warlord... and yet again after a few instances theres noting left to do which is enough to keep you addicted.
Anyway abit of topic but my view is the harder and longer the grind, the longer you can spend playing without geting bored... aslong as you can notice your character progression. :P
The only games without grind are ones like Guild Wars where you can automatically become top level and just PvP. Of course you still need to somewhat grind for powers and items but the levelling itself is still easy compared to traditional MMOs. DDO is okay but unfortunately all the game has is PvE and its easy to hit level 10, the only thing to do is roll another character but that becomes old quick.
Unfortunately most MMOs only make money off subscriptions and subscriptions are based on time and the more time they make you take to get top level ultra uber and capped out before the next expansion comes out the better. So grind is integral to most MMOs, the good ones at least make it somewhat interesting by involving interesting quests, the bad ones just make you smash things dead x1000 level after level.

"Small" correction. In a gaming world where everyone has the same level, a gamer's skill is what makes the difference, and this is what mmorpgs should be about.

You are very stupid so i will explain it to you...Eventually when everyone is maxed out at end game, of which it is inevitable that a large percentage of the playing populace will get to, gear/levels are carbon copy, so the game is then based upon skill. Only a child goes around calling everyone noob in cap lock, he requested a game with little grind, so? perhaps he does not want to spend forever and a day to be "uber powerful" perhaps he doesn't take after you "because in real life u are either fat skinny geeky or very stupid!" and has a real life as well.

Another "small" correction: Don't forget roleplay and socializing.
If all you care about is skill, you can jump right into Counterstrike. Which is a fine game in its own way, but not a MMORPG.

I'm the opposite.
I'd rather grind solo and do fun things with a group like conquer a mean boss or discover a new dungeon or track down that rare armor item...
Oh well, just an example of how it's hard to find games that are fun for every player. We're all different!

Which FF Character Are You?
As for the OP there is no such thing as a MMORPG without grind. A MMORPG without grind is quite simply an Action/FPS game if anything and nothing more.
Lol, GuildWars is a grind-fest as well as D&D online. If you think they are not grind-fests, just play them by yourselves and find out.
The games which I can think of which require least grinding are EverQuest II and WoW.
However, only EQ2 has a trial. Goto their website and there is a link to download the free trial.
Don't worry about all the flames, I understand you.
Most of the people who like grind are people who have nothing else to do in their life but play games (disagree with me? Then how else can you get to a high level without dedicating so much time to playing games. Getting to a high level in grinders is NOT possible unless you don't have anything else to do). In addition, some people claim this "social" aspect of grinding, well many of us have real friends not over the computer and see no point in grinding. With that out of the way, and I know that will insult many of you, I think that grinding makes games boring.
Well, you tell me, "Go play an FPS noob!" Well why don't you shut up, I like character development, but I don't see why character development has to be so slow. FPS doesn't have enough character development, and believe it or not, there are many people who like to take the middle path like me. Really, I believe there needs to be some work involved to get to a high level, but not grind. Also, there are many ways to make grinding less noticeable, but quite frankly all these new MMOs coming out are either too poor or too lazy or both to make grinding less noticeable. Many of you would say GW takes some grinding, but to me it's not even noticeable, since all the EXP is in quests it makes the game more fun. However, all the other MMOs out there only provide you with stupid quests, the best example of which is FlyFF. "Hey, how can we make grinding less boring? I know let's make quest items drop after you kill a monster to give a little EXP boost. IT'S briliant! We won't have to spend time coming up with elaborate quests!" Pretty much, I feel that the cause of all the grind in MMOs is due to the developers not having the resources to make quests in games that make grinding not noticeable.
Anyway, if you disagree with me, look at Diablo II for christ's sake. That game has been out for how long? And look how many people are still playing it. Look at Guild Wars too, these games show that there are many people who want to play non-grinding games.
I'm sorry but sadly the answer is that there aren't many non-grinding games at the moment. Honestly, I'd play Guild Wars now, or go to an FPS because that's all we have. We'll have to wait till the future, because I'm sure that there will be games that will attempt to have no grinding. It's just a matter of time though, don't worry the MMO market is expanding and eventually people will try to make MMOs that appeal to people who don't like grinding.
Grinds suck. but whats a grind to you? to me a grind is nasty its when I start to use a pen an count how many Rabbits i gota kill just to get a level,.and how many levels I can get a day.
This for me,only happens when games level restrict items,.lose xp when dieing,or spend more then a day with out improving.
Guildwars if you have not played it is for you,.If you just do the stroryline and join balanced groups, you will have hit lvl20 befor your done the content,GW was ment to be a "soft grind" but if you go hardcore it becomes a long grind.to unlock all skills/items in the game.
