Meh. Still not for everyone. Congratulations I suppose, but turn based combat can die in a fire as far as I'm concerned. I also feel no need to have sexual relations with a bear, so this will never be on my hard drive. I don't typically watch the movies that win best picture at the Oscars either.

you ... don't ... have to have ... sexual relations with a bear.

Can't find the roll eyes emoji for some reason.

As far as turn based combat, that's more "game like" it's true, but it is close to the table top game.

I realize you don't have to have sexual relations with a bear. It's the fact that's part of the game at all. On top of that Larian publicly congratulated themselves for putting it in and patted themselves on the back for how woke and progressive they are for normalizing beastiality. Apparently everyone agrees because it's GOTY everywhere. You want to talk about not having an eye roll emoji big enough to convey how much my eyes roll at this game? Well if nothing else we can agree on the fact there needs to be a planet sized eye roll emoji to properly express that emotion. You at me, and me at this game and Larian as a company.

Ah, got it, you're just ignorant.

Imagine thinking that a game is "promoting bestiality" when people have seduced dragons in DnD for decades and no one pissed their diapers about it because they known its a meme. Perhaps the adult world isn't for you.

Change your pull-ups, put on your big boy pants, and join people in reality. Or you can just keep creating boogeyman in your head. You not liking turn based combat is a you problem. You are the equivalent of someone playing a sports game and whining about how much they hate sports. If you don't like turn-based combat, that's your opinion to have, but your opinion isn't cohesive with reality, apparently.

Dragon's Dogma 2? They are different games and I'm playing both. Dragon's Dogma 2 is more "my thing" as I had originally stopped Baldur's Gate 3 as I kept trying to get some place on the map and couldn't actually get there., Became frustrated so took a break.
This was a real frustration for me too and one of the reasons the game is just rated in the second tier of games from 2023 for GOTY for me.

The map traversal was very last gen. It felt like I was playing a game from 2010. For everything they did right they did another thing not so right. Like the pace and tone of each act, like they were made by separate teams who had not played the other team's act. Act one was exploratory and discovery, act two was revelations and at times off putting based on act one decisions and act three was more story corridor directed and less exploratory. Even, at times, shutting down the players ability to make free decisions.
That is not GOTY material for me personally. Good game, fun game most of the time but cohesiveness, pacing, character motivations being too influenced by the romance 'threshold' being met mid game and some design decisions stop it from becoming a generational or a GOTY.

I wonder people who have played both BG3 and DD2 would rate these two against each other.

Dragons Dogma 2 is a weird kind of game, very much like the first one; and i just, because of its weirdness and what i refer to as 'japanese jank' - i don't know if i'd put it in a GOTY category at all.  It has a cult following that is quite faithful to it. Also the first game had long legs thanks to the Dark Arisen dlc.

Elden Ring would be a better comparison against BG3.

If DD2 gets a dlc on par with Dark Arisen... then, maybe, MAYBE it has more of a chance, but even then, we are talking about a very niche type of gameplay loop that only certain people enjoy.

With that said, DD2 has taken some risks we'd only see in a game like BG3, like permanent npc deaths and other dangerous game-breaking things that can alter how one can play the game.

Did not get as good a Metacritic core but I would be the first to say that does not mean everything. I am a big fan of the series, so I won't comment until I have played it.

BG3 is a masterpiece and deserves recognition. Also I dont think any game released the same year is on par if being honest.

Its true that its a genre and gameplay many people dont like but judging it inside its area/domain is one of the best games ever I can remember. RPG of all time probably top 5. Turn based probably top 3.

My preference is Dragon's Dogma 2 but clearly Baldur's Gate 3 is an excellent game.

The only game that metacriticed as high last year was Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. (Which scored the same)
Tough to compare BG3 with Zelda but Zelda was more fun to me.
BG3 was the second-best RPG for me that was released in 2023 with Sea of Stars being number 1.

Do you mean Dragon's Dogma 2 or Divine Divinity 2, the game Larian made before BG3?

By the time I actually got to Baldur's Gate I was kind of tired of the game. I liked it, and thought it was a fun play, but I do think it a bit over-rated. It's no WarTales

WarTales is available on GamePass, so I'm checking it out. I'm still early here, but here on my thoughts so far. What do you think of the game?

I'd say Wartales is definitely a thinker's game. I'm not very far, but I feel like every choice I've made so far, from buying an additional pony and shoeing it, to the direction I decide to travel.

There is a learning curve and it is not a hand holder. The controls feel much better on PC than console. Once I figured the UI out, for the most part, it became less frustrating navigating around.

Combat is very cool. Movement and positioning matter. For example, in the first battle I had basically blocked my archer because my melee guys were too close and risked getting hit.

The setup is also very friendly. I chose easy settings with the ability to save any time, but there are much more challenging options. I also like how we have to choose both a perk and flaw for our team during creation. The ability to custom tweak each party member is nice too.
