Dune: Awakening Updates FAQ's with Beta Selection Info and Teases 'Lone Wolf' Playstyle | MMORPG.com
Today, the team has updated their FAQ's with some new information touching on closed testing, the NDA, and how you can get selected for the next set of tests.
Prediction: This game is going to be absolute shit.
You might be on to something. I hope it's good, but they are really trying hard to not let anyone who played it to talk about the game. And they definitely didn't want media to play it. So I'm guessing it's not as playable as they make it seem.
Yeah I'm going to pass on the beta invite. I've donated enough free QA hours to various development efforts to say I've done my gamer civic duty or whatever. My favorite part of beta is pointing out issues only to have white knights shout you down with "it's still beta", and then those issues are still there at launch. I've got better things to do with my time. Given the dumpster fire that was Age of Conan launch I'm willing to bet this one will be worth cooking up some popcorn. I guess we'll see.
I want this to be good too. I hope they don't rush this out to meet some deadline. If there's not enough content or some system isn't working good, I would much rather have them delay it 6 months over coming out to bad reviews and poor sales.
It that old classic, 'we will make the game the best game there is for solo players and group players, while not impacting in any way on the game experience of both types of player'. Which is off course quite impossible to do.
Yeah this game is in no way, shape nor form a MMO. its a suvival BS game like any other. The more I find out about it the more it sounds like conan exiles with a new engine.
With recent changes to Conan Exiles, I am fully prepared for this game to be not fun. Funcom, and especially their new partners, have the ability to patch fun out of their games and leave you with useless grind. Several weeks ago I said they had the best battlepass on the market but that changed with the latest patch. Not to mention its gated in terms of how much you can earn so they extend the grind to keep you playing. People are grinding it out by playing admin mode and mass producing goods whereas before you could just play like and how you want to level the BP.
I think their new development overlords also are impacting this game and causing changes which is why we have seen very little.
Actually, I think a Dune game by AGS would be better than whatever Funcom is going to release. (note I said "better" and not "actually good" or anything like that)
As much as I like Dune, and it's lore, that doesn't mean any game made with it is going to be good. I hope Funcom doesn't botch this one. It still kind of bugs me that there is no large scale MMORPG of the Dune universe. It could be done, but would take a 10-15 years to make I think. Or it may not. That is another issue that bothers me; but for another discussion.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
