Ubisoft needs to be bought out.

Pirating games has nothing to do with morality.

I was just walking around in Rome and I was getting annoyed at the number of owners who do not pick up their dog's shit or leave them off the leash. I compared it to Singapore where fines of up to 1000 Singapore Dollars makes everyone obey their rules. They come to Malaysia however and litter indiscriminately.

Fines, that has nothing to do with morality. It's simply breaking the law.

Noooo not everyone is crazy and crooked but I suppose it helps justify a "I do what I want" attitude.

See that the thing no one is perfect but some people cant admit it. Just because you don't break a law doesn't mean you're morality faultless or perfect.

Why get at mad at Ubisoft for being right?

You might not want to hear that you don't own your video games but it's the truth.

    Physical media is disappearing.

For console games physical sales only amounted to 10% of total sales in 2023.
Walmart got rid of physical Xbox games.
Target just announced they will get rid of all physical entertainment products by 2025.

And as we have seen with digital games your access to them is at the mercy of the publisher.

This is the future that people wanted but now that it's finally here everyone is complaining.

I'd add onto this whole conversation and say that pirating is what it is.  It's entitlement.  Saying "I want to play the game but I don't want to pay for it because 'insert reason,' " is entitlement. If people came out and just admitted it instead of trying to justify their behavior, people wouldn't be as inclined to argue against them.

People keep harping on how they want to send a message to ubisoft about their practices; while failing to understand that it's no longer just about 'voting with your wallets.'  It's voting with your attention.  A company that falls into obscurity will either listen or die.  Pirating the game is still giving that company attention; which is going to keep it up in the search ratings and give it the executives the cushion they need to validate their own beliefs; which in turns to us as consumers getting shafted by more bad practices.

The number of downloads on bad games are low on pirate sites. So if they don't make a good game, pirating isn't going to suddenly made them good. Even pirates have standards so I doubt pirating their games is going to increase  any attention to the title if the number of downloads are so low it is not worth the effort of actually downloading it.   o:) >:)

Was it someone from Ubisoft who once said: "We need to get used to not owning games that we pay for?"  or was that Microsoft(?), i forget.

Good does not mean perfect, and imperfect does not mean crazy or crooked. In fact, suggesting that goes against your claim that morality and ethics is subjective and not black and white. Morality and ethics are complex precisely because there is no perfect, and not every harmful effect is due to crooked intent. However, going from that to assuming there is no such thing as intent or that unintended harm is simply subjective is simply not true. All human knowledge is "imperfect", yet that doesn't mean it's all meaningless. We can assess the outcome of behaviors like piracy and make reasonable claims about it, and we can disagree on those claims. That's not the same thing as dismissing an argument on the grounds that all arguments are subjective.

    Therein lies the stupid.

Just because physical copies are often being replaced by digital downloads doesn't mean you do not "own the game" it just means the medium you have it on is different.

If I download a game and the installer has all the files, like many digital downloads do and I keep that copy preciously in my NAS or backed up somewhere I should then have the right to keep playing and installing that game, you know just like as if I had physical copy. My right to play the game I bought shouldn't be able to be revoked period.

Some people seem to think our right of ownership should be null and void due to it being a digital medium rather than a physical one which is a load of malarkey.

That's the whole point though, isn't it? I refuse to buy games from some of these companies and haven't for some time precisely because I judge their way of doing business as harmful to this market of games I enjoy. I can judge piracy in much the same way. Why is it one or the other? Why is one of these a matter of "morality" and not the other? I'll go further and say the same thing that bothers me about corporate greed also keeps me from condoning piracy - maximizing one's benefit despite how it harms the market and economy that makes these games and experiences possible.

I’m no I don’t know you didn’t mean it literally. Why would I? Was it your tone of voice or our numerous in person conversations and that lends me a special insight into your meaning?

especially since I know people with that attitude.

And right back at you as you should have taken the point but realize it was couched as a joke.

But then again you would know that from the tone of my voice and our numerous in person conversations.

Gaming, heck, the world would be better if people didn’t think they were so entitled.

And while I semi agree with your stance about buying a game and still being able to play it I was more commenting on just downloading this game without buying it because, well, “because.”

I would add that I personally am a believer in agreeing or “not agreeing “ to whatever deal is proposed. So if they say I’m not buying a game I’m only buying access I’m free to say “screw” this as opposed to saying “screw this I’ll just get it for free because I don’t like how you do business.”
