I applied for the test months ago and didn't receive an invite to participate in it. It's a shame as I've been playing MMORPGs since 2004 and there aren't many games in the genre I haven't tried. The lack of directed quests/traditional story telling is my main concern about Pax Dei. For those who got an invite, does the game have quest givers? Is there a story / stories to enjoy? Are the NPCs voice acted or just a random bar of text most people will click through?

Check junk mine was in it. I haven't played yet....at work atm but if no nda I will reply later with the answers.
Initial impressions are similar to every other survival/building type game except theoretically larger with zones and eventually more players. But is that really it?
So far the first day was just the typical survival/build game loop:
Pickup sticks and stone to make tools.
Use tools to make a small base
Hunt wildlife
Make armor
Harvest
Keep building
Seems fine for what it is, but not sure I would pay a sub to play just because it says its an MMORPG. Then to pay more to keep your building plots active in game?
So far, not quite seeing it.

Got it. Here's a shorter response:
"It seems like the game has its charms, but you're not quite sold on its MMORPG status. The gameplay feels familiar with survival/building elements, and the subscription model raises doubts about its value. Your initial impressions leave you uncertain about its long-term appeal."
Just your run-of-the-mill survival builder. I played for about 45 minutes. Was in crafting window not really paying attention and died to player kiting bears to me, and then enjoying chatting in region about how funny it was. Was all it took for me. 45 minutes, done. Will not return. lol
Most of what you can do in this game you can do in 10-20 other survival builders. For now, there is nothing that sets it apart for me or really gives me motivation to play. Boring is an apt description at this time.

I think right now the "MMO" elements are getting groups of players together to build and hunt the Wilderness zones with each other right now. This is super early on, so I'm not sure many of the "core" features that would be the main drivers of player cities, empires, trade routes, warring states and more are really present just yet.
This is definitely not a survival crafter MMO that you can survive completely solo, I feel, even in this early stage. Both Alphas now I've struggled to gain a footing because of just how convoluted the crafting system is, all while I see groups of players exceling because they are working together to build. So there's that at least.
I'm interested in where what this looks like in a year from now, two years, etc.
It was pretty but as I expected, sandbox construction games just don't do anything for me. It was all I could do to remain online for a couple of hours in it last night just to hang with a friend who was getting some enjoyment out of it. Having no tutorial didn't help matters as there were several relatively basic things that were not intuitive and there was no explanation in game. I had to go to the Discord to ask basic about basic things like "how do I turn off construction mode" and "no matter what I make, when I put it on the ground, it's a small white box that disappears after a few minutes." I killed some boars, some killed me, I ran back. At no point did my pulse ever increase or did I get more excited. It was less interesting than the Solo Star Wars movie.

Yeah I am still interested in it, I'm just not too sure how MMORPGish this is going to end up.
My small group has a nice little base built after a day. We have armor. Weapons. We hunt and ventured into the Wilderness areas. It will be interesting to see how many players they can handle in one spot. My suspicion is... not all that many. It's one thing to have servers with lots of zones that you can use to spread folks out. It's quite another to get a few hundred people in close proximity.
Last I heard (you know better than me) was that they were targeting Early Access launch for Spring of this year... somewhat closely following the current Alpha. Has that changed? Are they really going to push it to 25/26 to flesh out an RPG type game? Because currently I don't really see much in the way of any RPG elements. At all.
But the game is one of the best looking I have played. Some of the visuals are breath taking... so I'll be spending much more time there this week. Despite having TWICE lost all my gear to glitches where I rezed, looted my corpse and ended up buck naked

That's the last we heard as well. Not sure if that is going to be dependent on the feedback from this test or not. This alpha has more in it than the last one (no PvP in the last alpha), but I'm not sure if it's "ready" for prime time yet myself.
I'll have to spend more time in it this week to be sure, though.

At least in my playtime, it's not be an issue of solo vs. group, it's resource scarcity. While running with a clan would increase your chances at resources, there simply aren't enough resources for the number of players. Last night there was no clay or flint in my zone or the neighboring ones. Apparently there was some earlier in the day so some people had stone structures, but by night there was nothing. I eventually couldn't even find rock nodes. I don't know what the expected balance is for pop per zone, but right now it's just not working and is roadblocking people from advancing.
I agree on the visuals though. Very well done, especially the water. Combat animations need alot of love though.
The game looks really decent.... my only thing is why is most new mmos and multi-player medieval games crafting/survival games? I miss mmos with actual lore and NPC cities and being able to go to a town and buy a sword and go kill monsters without spending days building and crafting etc ...... you can do a sandbox mmo without everything needing to be crafted , let players build cities etc just like in Pax dei yet still have currency and NPC cities and monsters

Glitches and bugs as expected.
But so far I'm not seeing the MMORPG/GAME here.
