I am playing FO4 (unmodded) on a Ryzen 5900x with a 3080Ti at 72FPS constantly with a few dips to 58-60 in various areas and do NOT have to use Mods on my 3440x1440 Ultrawide LG Monitor.
Most issues seem to come from players who "mod" their game. What did you expect at the patch release?
*Fallout 4's Next Gen Update is a Dud on PC* is NOT a Dud. It plays fine the way it was meant to be played....Un-modded.
FO4 is not a DUD unless the players make it a DUD.
Manufactured drama, like the Elite Dangerous "news article".
Really, my only complaint with Bethesda's games is that if you buy it on Xbox it only licenses it for PC or console. Microsoft keeps blabbing about playing your Xbox games on any device, but the user experience still leaves a lot to be desired. The different platforms feel bolted together. Same with Minecraft and a few other first party titles.
A few bugs that will be patched in the coming weeks doesn't even register a blip on my radar.
Running on a 3070 rtx with no mods and this patch hasn't changed much of anything bug wise.
Still framerate drop issues, game still crashes far to often, and still has that dumb bug where your pc basically locks up trying to get to power armor on the roof near start of game (tried a new playthrough with patch). Seems like a big download for a whole lot of nothing.
7D2D modders have had to update regularly through 21 Alpha versions across 10 years and there's already 3 or 4 major updates coming after the 1.0 release this summer.
It's really just Alpha 22 as game will still be lacking in several prominent and promised features at "launch" and skipped right past the beta stage.

It bricked a lot more than people's games who were using mods. It broke saving the game too whether you have mods or not. I bought the game about 2 weeks ago after watching the Fallout series. I was about 6 hours into the campaign on my first play through. Had no problem saving the game prior to the update. Now no saves work, whether new or an overwrite. Even deleting all my own saves and starting a new game wouldn't allow me to save at all. This game is currently borked unless you want to play all 50+ campaign hours in one sitting.

Common problem when using mods because your modded saved version will not match any more. Have to restart a new game. When I use mods I never update rubbish Bethesda updates. The mod community has better bugs removal and no crashes unless you have a 100 over mods and best of all better looking than anything shitty, lousy and incompetent Bethesda can ever do. They are just bad. They make good games but buggy as hell. It's a known issue.
A piece of advice from someone who mods a lot. Always keep copies of 'saved files/games' in a separate folder before you update any game. Hell I just save any game I'm currently playing. My Mass Effect saves are being saved every two days. I hate losing progress so I safeguard against it. I do that also for my Trails games and other JRPGs and fortunately when Steam had some issue I could rewrite my cloud save with my saved file and continue.
However in JRPG cases because of the way the Trails in the Sky is you can ask someone on steam to give you a copy of their saved file from some point in the game since the game does move in a linear fashion and you can use that save to override the cloud save. Often cloud saves will corrupt so one has to be vigilant.

Did you even read their full post?
Also, on your next post......so, your advice is to double, triple, etc the amount of space you allocate for FO4 saves, before an update? To what end? I would also point out that your point on a modded save file no longer "matching" after an update and that you have to start a new game, completely renders your advice a waste of time.
I wasn't clear. What I meant to say is if you have mods, don't download the patch. Check with Nexus posts on your mods and whether there are any issues. If there are turn off cloud and play offline.
If you have already patched and have backed up an earlier save you might be able to continue offline with an unpatched steam version before the patch. This is really for people who have invested hundreds of hours on their game not 6. For that number just start over.
The modding community has a huge number of posts to assist. I was merely abbreviating the process. Definitely check Reddit and Nexus for steps. I had to use a separate launcher altogether for Fallout 3 and forego achievements.
Once upon a time loadout order of mods and compatibility was also a concern so no one playing with mods would dream of recklessly patching.
What is it with communities today being full of people like this?
"I don't see a problem, so it's not a problem"
Yeah, you know what you also don't see if you don't have eyes? Anything.
Between this, the Battlefront re-release, the plethora of other new AAA titles being flaming garbage, and mobile gaming/gacha/gambling/p2w/daily grinding trash infesting every genre, the gaming industry's state is almost as bad as the crash in 1983.. except that type of failure can never happen again, unfortunately.

I really need to stop reading comments nowadays.
You really should stop reading comments that don't echo your own narrow point of view if it upsets you.
Game updates break mods and saves. Too bad. Move on. This is about a game save and updates. This is what happens when the core piece of software changes, all the third part code needs to be updated.
I see the problem, and understand it's an inconvenient pain in the ass, but nothing to get worked up over. The game isn't being delisted or licenses removed from players accounts. Modding isn't being removed. No one is losing anything of permanent value. The drama here is entirely manufactured.
The comparison to gacha gaming is a pathetic red herring. The game studio is investing time and resources into updating their game. It's quite the opposite of what you're trying to sell with that comparison.

Except I didn't have any mods. And many others used no mods that have been posting. It broke a ton of shit whether you modded or not. I had to delete a game 6 hours in because all save files were unusable. I had just bought the game around the time the Fallout series came out. I was enjoying it on my first play through and didn't use any mods. Couldn't save anymore, couldn't overwrite old saves. if I started a brand new game, you couldn't save that either. Only way to play the game for me currently is to play the entire game in one sitting never turning off my pc or alt tabbing because if you do this the update screwed that too where the game screen glitches tabbing back in. This patch is one of the most catastrophic updates I've ever seen to any game in my 25+ years of playing them.

That unfortunately can happen with saves. The can get corrupted or the patch makes them incompatible. With Besthesda I always wait for the moddding community to come up with a better patch that does not screw things up. Bestesda is very incompetent. That's why a lot of their games cannot even be played without a bug patch modders have created. It's a miserable experience to play their games without those mods.
I wouldn't say it's a dud, especially. But their track record, and the way their games handle mods. Little updates equal big problems. Content is always welcome but this, Starfield, I'll even say Skyrim (with all its additions). Every update breaks mods, and when you aren't competant enough to maintain your own game, updates need to be substantial, or at the very least fixing ACTUAL issues.
Many of there updates amount to tiny, superfluous fluff, or camera changes that, well, might be nice after the 9000 other issues that need addressing. They just don't seem to have the right priorities.

Like, again you either stopped reading what Raagnarz wrote or fail to comprehend. Yes, ANY games save file can get corrupted but def can happen with Bethesda's insistence with using Gamebryo+ plus ++ insert Creation ++ engine. Of course major updates cause incompatibility with save files, but usually the developer includes some kind of conversion for a vanilla save to be used (unless explicitly stated to the contrary) whether that is unseen by the player or prompted. What you wouldn't expect is to lose the ability to ever save a game again (with the same install).
You keep talking about mods in conversation with someone you replied to that said nothing about mods, did not have any mods. Has tried to tell you that twice now. The fact is for anyone who uses mods within Bethesda games (like me who was running 376 in FO4), and didn't know this was going to happen.....well hopefully they learned something.
Even if you do not use mods you shouldn't patch if you have a lot of hours in the game. Chances are the game will brick. That was what I meant by saying you need to resort to mods. Bethesda is just very bad at fixing stuff. They break more than fix. Plus their patches are stuff the modders have done better than them. They never fix their bugs and the modding community has to fix it for them. Fallout 3 has a bug fix that almost every thread will advice you to get. Otherwise you risk the game crashing and suddenly being unable to complete a quest and so on.
If I am not mistaken being unable to save was an old issue with their games. I think if you search there is a fix for that.
I love the Fallout games but they are so very buggy. I have like 5 hours showing on Steam but actually played close to 100 hours of Fallout 3. I had so many issues with the game I finally had to use a different launcher and avoid it launching from Steam altogether. These days the mods are much better of course. Same for New Vegas. I think Bethesda makes fantastic games but they are so buggy it can drive one nuts. Then they don't even fix it. Like they move on to other stuff and you're left with a fantastic game that needs to be fixed by others. Thank heavens for modders. I love them to bits.
Obviously you seem to be affronted by my responses but I am a person who tends to ramble on and go off topic a lot. Sorry about that but I am an old woman and that aspect isn't going to change any time soon. Avoid my responses if it makes you irritated.
Please hun, you are in no way irritating me. If you would, maybe consider my responses as trying to help you with your rambling, to focus on the person you replied to, and their actual issue and what they were saying.
