Time Per Kill - What do you prefer?

EronakisEronakis Member UncommonPosts: 2,249
Time per kill is how many seconds an average player takes to kill an average NPC in the game. Sometimes, the number of ability presses can correspond with that time per kill number.

For me, I like 18-25 seconds time per kill. With about 8-15 button presses depending on critical strike procs.

I am just curious, what do you guys prefer? If it's easier to express it in an ability range that works too.

I am curious on what you guys prefer.

    I think it depends on the game, and enemy and combat.

    For trash I don't want to spend more than 5 seconds dispatching boring mobs. Especially with action combat.

    Maybe 30 seconds for regular battles with action combat.

    The moment you start talking about rotations and consumables I'm out. It feels boring to me, and sounds like those battles are doing to take a while. I like faster decisive victories or at least some kind of battle progression through phases to keep me entertained.

    Depends what your definition of an average NPC.  Also understanding I like different types of encounters, so I dont want to just grind doing the exact same time forever.

    • Solo open world mobs about 30-45 secs per mob
    • Small Group fights about 30-45 secs per mob with 2-3 mobs per pull, with CC required for most fights.
    • Solo bosses 5-10 minutes
    • Small Group Bosses 5-15 minutes
    • Raid Bosses I want that to take 10-20 minutes, make it epic

    I cannot click too many times , my hand will flare up or rather my wrist. I use a controller but even then too many clicks of any device is bad for me. So yeah as low as possible for trash mobs. Only bosses will I accept some potion use and more clicks.

    As long as it's not mindless 1 hitting mobs anywhere from 5 seconds to 10 minutes is fine.

    This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

    They got potions in Fractured Online recently; I've not even looked at them.
    I don't care for consumables; although, I don't mind them if implemented well.

    I also don't care for long, drawn-out battle against any one creature, but I do enjoy the challenge of managing quite a few creatures at one time with adds being thrown in randomly.  That can be fun.

    Depends on the game for me but in general a long time makes my character feel weak and vice versa. It's up to the developer then if they are building an experience where you're supposed to be just barely surviving and every fight could be your last or are you some heroic powerhouse that's just chopping through bad guys like a combine in a wheat field. There's a time and place for both.

    This whole idea of rotations is disgusting. The idea that combat can be mastered by a repetitive set of moves points to a horrible combat system.

    As far as the original question I’m fine with longer fights if they are interesting.

    I’ll add that I’m a big believer in the idea that all opponents should provide some danger to the player and that all leveling should do is give the player more options for success.

    I'm generally a fan of longer fights.

    But, that is prefaced on having deep combat mechanics, which is very rare. With shallow combat mechanics (i.e most rpgs) it doesn't matter how long or short the fights are, I still find them boring.

    General guidelines:

    * Normal mobs = 60s - 120s fights
    * Harder mobs = 5 mins
    * Bosses = 5-10mins
    * Mega-Bosses = 15mins+

    I will never count how many clicks I take or how many seconds it takes to kill soemthing...If it isnt an enjoyable experience then the time frame doesnt matter....Too often these games end up being just mindless killing with 0 chance of dying and it gets boring fast regardless.

    I prefer my TTK to be less than that of whatever I'm fighting. If I keep that ratio up, then I'm generally pretty happy.

    I like longer times to kill. If it takes less than 10 seconds for a player to die, it's not for me.

    I like a variety. In City of Heroes for example, my fire blaster can one-shot an entire group of even level minions, but only if the inferno power is up. While it recharges, I can use other powers to take out an entire group in a few seconds.

    This scales up as Lts and bosses are added. Elite bosses will take longer, perhaps 20-30  seconds. An AV (arch villain) can take several players a few minutes or more. And a giant monster could take 20-40 people many minutes to finish.

    A fire blaster is the proverbial glass cannon and can be defeated fairly quickly. A tank or controller have much less damage output, but they can last much longer in a fight. My robot mastermind might take 5-10 seconds to set up a battlefield, and then only take a few more seconds to finish off a group.

    So I like a variety, I can pick which kind of fights I want.

    I think other players and targets should have very little time to kill.  But I should have very, very high Time To Kill.

    It 100% depends on the type of MMO I am playing. I enjoy in games like Lost Ark just mowing through everything because that's what it was designed to be, but the raid bosses are 10+ minutes long. I like FFXI type of slow killing too but it fits the game. I think my favorite is probably earlier WoW or EQ2 where it's not that long but just long enough that you go through a few skills.
