Star Wars: Galaxies might be shut down officially, but the MMO has been kept alive for years through emulated servers. We talked to one to talk about the future of the MMO - and whether Disney should give a Star Wars MMO another try.

I thought the former but after reading the first part of the article it seems it’s the latter.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Or to take it a step farther, can they create a game that will speak to modern audience but still entice Star Wars Galaxies fans?
In some ways they are going to be "damned if you do, damned if you don't."
Original Star Wars galaxies might be split between the "I am willing to play an old school Star Wars Galaxies game" and "I'm willing to play a Star Wars Galaxies game but it can't take the same amount of time and effort and/or no grind at all."
Then you have modern audiences who have never played Star Wars Galaxies and they might not want to play a game that is a nod to a more old school type of game.
Mark my words, if someone were to make a Star Wars Galaxies SOMEONE would complain.

I agree, total click bait. In terms of numbers I think Legends has around 6000 on a monthly average and even SWGEmu site even shows they've had 1400 accounts the past month. Plus legends and SWGEmu supports multiple OS's like Linux (with player guides on how to get it working on the Steam Deck) where as Restorations doesn't.
That's a pretty large trail of breadcrumbs to get to the same place most people are going to find themselves: "No" , or: "Heeeeeeelllll no"
In all seriousness, SWG seems to be doing just fine with the support it's already receiving, so let's not give disney any bright ideas so they can go and ruin something else.

Yes, we get new content. Once or twice a year we get maybe 1-2 hours of story content and what some would consider a "dungeon."
The game is at the cusp of maintenance mode with it being moved to Broadsword.
Speculative and open for discussion.
Someone is butt hurt that they couldn't incite and get Jedi...
Legends is NGE trash

this is utter bs
provin you were not playing back then and was not probably even alive yet irl either1. While swg did drop in population for cu and then nge it wasn't dead.
2. The drop in pop was not over 3 months it was overnight.
3. Starting pop was huge like every mmo good or bad.
4. I did play and I enjoyed it until they announced the shut down.
I played pre-cu, cu and nge. I still miss it and if we had emu servers that were not run by corrupt or power hungry administrators I would still be playing. To this day it is still the best crafting and harvesting system I have ever seen. Same goes for the housing and flexibility of play style.
Hate all you like it's true.
Seems a bit strong. I'll grant you my son and I had a bit of a kersuffle with what I'm guessing was a brand new mod on the Legends server, but one of the senior guys stepped in and straightened the guy out and helped us.
