I do wonder where the gaming community is going when you review bomb a game for something like this. Presumably this is a game you have been really enjoying and intend to get hours and hours more fun out of it. Setting up a new account is a pain but this instinct to use social media to vent your annoyance at volume 10 is childish.
Mind you they should not implement this until there is a way for those 90 countries to create an account, that would be grossly unfair.
Back to the news story itself, pretty much a case of
I think the problems stem from the account tie-in not being mandatory at the get go. It was optional.
Then Sony published the game to regions that they don't support PSN accounts, which creates an issue for some group of people, even if it's a small minority.
On top of all that, there are quite a few Helldivers PC players that don't own PlayStations. Several people I know were under the impression one had to actually own a PlayStation to create a "PlayStation" network account, which isn't an unreasonable assumption, but not true.
Top it all off with understanding that the game runs fine and players can enjoy it without the account and people suspect this has to do with Sony data harvesting and inflating user numbers for investors. That perception rubs a lot of people the wrong way.
In all, I don't think it's a huge deal. I'm the type that makes sure all my accounts are linked whenever I'm in an account admin screen because I like things to "just work". But I can totally understand the sour taste that Sony's ultimatums leave.
I didn't follow the Helldivers release, but the couple of times I looked at it at Steam, there was nothing about mandatory linking of PSN and Steam accounts. Many other games require their own accounts, so it's nothing new, but I don't know any that make linking with your Steam account a mandatory step and I sure as hell don't know any that make that step mandatory AFTER they sell you the game (and possibly you spending more cash in the game).
I won't bother posting the Darth Vader meme, suffice to say that the devs and Sony are asking for big trouble with this step both for the data and consumer protection reasons. At least in the EU. Fundamentally changing the product you bought after the purchase will need at the very least an option for a full refund to those who bought the game earlier and do not consent to link their accounts (and data) with Sony.
I'm a kid and I need something to feign outrage over. Anything, just literally anything. No pizza in the cafeteria? OUTRAGED!
Take a deep breath and go kill some bugs. Sony doesn't give a crap about your Helldivers 2 playtime data. You're not important. You don't matter. Play the game... or don't. The world will keep spinning and life will go on.

I think negatively reviewing the game because you need to link/create a new account to continue playing is stupid.
But since it looks like Sony has decided to region block part of their players, imho that's a good reason for everyone playing Helldivers to leave a negative review: If we allow devs to remove game access for reason like this, then there's a risk next time those devs will remove our access to our purchased game. There are some acceptable reason for removing access to a game, but this isn't one of them.

I see where you are coming from, but you have to trash it to make that point. This may help make sure this does not happen again, I just wish that could be done without effecting the score of the quality of the game which is what the score is meant to be for. Go on Twitter-X, that's what its for.
So... when this game launched 3 months ago, to wildly overwhelming success and praise; were these 3 sections of player-agreements there in any shape or form?
Could someone kindly walk be through this games launch history? because it feels to me like what is going on is a 'fast one' Sony is pulling and has put it's game developers into a very precarious corner (which Sony is best known for doing)
I just would like to know if the Developers at any point during the early launch days; made a clear message of this having to happen well in advance or not, because i'm reading about a 'grace period' - and i'm wondering if this was something that Sony sprung onto its players out of left-field or not.
I am also trying to ascertain if having a PSN account is even necessary or a requirement to play the game(like, on PC?) Specifically if the person is playing on via steam- because that to me seems really strange - seeing as how Valve has these same type of tools for use.

I'm just trying to be cautious, X is only safe to use once every three months, per current harm reduction standards...
No one calls it X. It is Twitter.

They don't. It no longer exists.
I like to call it Xitter (zitter) and the posts are Zits. It's an acne based social platform!

Stopping a ton of people from playing is one way of doing that, I guess.
