This week we see some modern warfare and some testing of a game that's already had a history of several relaunches. With 5 games on the list, let's get into it.

Yeah I agree with the aimbotting concerns. The thing that drives me nuts is there's always this segment of people that if you call out aimbotting that "you just suck" or dismiss it with the very anecdotal "I haven't seen anyone cheating". Meanwhile I remember back when CoD 2 just launched there was a ban wave of over 50k player in one day. ONE DAY. If a competitive game can be hacked, it will be hacked and en masse. Human beings, when given anonymity of the Internet, are not known for just doing the right thing.
I'll jump to Gray Zone's defense here -
1. they're using some AI anticheat as well as EAC. Apparently they're using AnyBrain (https://anybrain.gg/) which if my hopes are correct will help them to create a robust defense against cheaters, as good pattern detection will always be the best weapon against the latest wave of cheats.
Sadly, the ingenuity of cheaters is such that cheats will always be one step ahead. Lately cheats are starting to use hardware based solutions - physical PCIE cards that interact with your computers memory directly, and physical USB devices that you plug your mouse into that act as a second secret mouse. It's quite scary really - have a look at "DMA" cheats if you are interested.
Those DMA Cheats - how do we stop them? Most cheats won't detect them, as the only thing a cheat can scan for is a suspicious driver file, as being hardware based - they are one level above kernel anti-cheats.
This is where imho, AI based anticheat is the only true long-term solution, as the cheater will always exhibit patterns of consistent success, whereas the average player (me) will exhibit consistent failure (LOL)
2. Gray Zone also has a PVE mode which is where I've been living. At the moment, Gray Zone does not reward XP for killing NPCs or players. The rewards are completing quests. Think of it as a huge themepark game, in a truly MASSIVE island. If you are playing in the PVE mode - you get to enjoy the game to it's fullest extent, and not have to worry about cheaters ruining your fun.
The only crying shame about Gray Zone is that it's perhaps a year or two ahead of it's time, Many of my friends are still rocking 1060s or 1660s and it' s (imho) the first next gen shooter which means anything beneath a 2060 era GPU is going to suffer ALOT.
If you're into FPS, and have a decent rig, I would most definitely not be afraid to recommend you try Gray Zone PVE. It's hella fun, and would be fun with a squad of friends too.
I have been meaning to address questions like this, as it's quite a common question that I ask myself when putting these weekly lists together.
Why is XYZ game on the list? Is it because I like the game? Is it because they're paying me to advertise the game? Does my family work for the development team? Blackmail?
In every case the answer is less complicated, and far less lucrative.
My criteria is quite simple:
If the answer answer to these questions are "yes" then I will put the game on the list - unless I see something particularly troublesome after conducting my due diligence.
As you can expect, that leaves the window open for quite a few games. In the past few weeks I've limited the number of mobile, blockchain, and nsfw games that may fall into these categories. I've omitted those mostly due to time constraints, and quality (or purpose) of the projects that pop up.
I've also attempted to vet any games that are categorized incorrectly, such as a single-player RPG that attempts to identify as an MMO, but doesn't have multiplayer. (It's silly how many of those there are out there)
Luckily there's quite a few games that still meet the criteria, even if many of them are fledgling, never-to-be-released indie titles that would love to be touched by any willing 10-ft pole.
Hopefully that answers how these games make the list. Of course, if you have any recommendations or requests, we do love constructive feedback!
Happy posting!
