Haven't watched it yet, but looking at the screenshots here, looks like family friendly fun!

Demon looks cute and adorable. I mean... can you imagine a Dragon Age game looking like Diablo 4?

That last screenshot makes me more worried than ever now. What the hell is that enemy? It looks so stupid. The creature design is really bad in this one.
I like to complain about games.

"Wheres the dark fantasy" not sure that's in DA anymore, take a look at that group picture; those cozy garish colours and cozy smiles around the cozy "coffee" table. Check out some of the character avatar faces from DA 1 and 2, then check these, the Veilguard's are distinctly more cartoony.

But apparently "the game is fine", yeah well I will let the reviews be the judge of that.

After watching the game play, trailer, and reading the directors comments, it's clear to me that this game was made for a new audience in mind. I just wanted a game that brought me back to DAO/DA2 levels of characters and story. Haven't seen the story, but I have zero interest in any of the new companions.

The art design screams family friendly fun but not dark fantasy.

Also “boo” to the developers for having the first fight of the game be a cut scene.

I guess we’ll see as I disliked Inquisition a lot.

I've played all prior versions of Dragon Age. Have you? This version is nothing like the franchise. I won't be buying it. Make a fun game. Leave the messaging out of it.

It could still be a really good game. Just like Animal Crossing is really good game.

But as fan of Dragon Age: Origins, I don't think I'll be buying Veilguard. I feel like I'm not part of this game's target audience.

Animal Crossing isn't a valid point of comparison. It's more like Kingdoms of Amalur.

That does seem a valid comparison as far as the color is concerned.

Here is some actual game play. It does look "a little better ... " than what these screen shot show. Having said that, it was definitely hit with the "stylized" stick.

    Why not simply replay Origins?

Well, I played it for well over a year. And the story continues so then one might want to see where it goes. However, I don't think I can muster the strength to try Inquisition again. If I did try this I'd have to watch a video and catch up.

I meant that any type of game can be a good game, not that Veilguard would be similar to Animal Crossing.

Meh I think you guys are bitching to bitch. Watching the gameplay video the actual combat looks pretty similar to DAO. I had to go Google a DAO video since it's been so long I had to remind myself. Anyway from the language I can tell you the game isn't family friendly unless your family curses like sailors. I'll wait for some reviews on the game before I toss it aside just due to art style. Seems like a pretty shallow reason to pass on a game.

That is so disingenuous to say and 100% wrong. DA:O combat was based on neverwinter nights combat. DA 4's new combat has similarities to FF7 Remake's combat.

I doubt you would say something as ridiculous as FF7 remake looks like neverwinter nights combat.

I'll keep worrying until I see actual post-launch reviews, since we all know that today's BioWare can't be trusted. Same as anyone saying "Stop worrying. X is fine, folks!" based on a short demo, since that makes me feel even more suspicious, sorry.

Also the new art direction is certainly off-putting, and whoever says that that doesn't matter, I would ask them if they would feel the same level of immersion if they watched The Exorcist movie with Willy Wonka's art direction, when compared to the original. Of course it matters in order to set the tone.

In regards to yesterdays concerns: It's the trailers tone that has people worried is all, they've done this before; add 'pop-music' to their trailers for Fantasy games.

Trailers like this are usually never reflective of the actual product; heck DragonAge: Origin's had a trailer with a Marilyn Manson song.

It's marketing, these trailers aren't meant for the fans, it's for non-fans so that they may tap into new audience pools.

In regard to today's concerns: There's no way to get around the fact that a different art direction is going to split a audience in half.

Also, i get the feeling that the fans are worried we will be getting a 'PG-13' ( T for Teen ) DragonAge this time around.

The art style is just.... when it leans that much into an art style that resembles ips like Fortnite and Overwatch, yeah i don't blame fans for being concerned. image
