I have always been okay with a monthly sub. This goes back to starting MMOs when it was the only option like EQ and DAOC. I am fine with it because $15 is CHEAP entertainment. One movie is easily the same price. Dinner out? Easily double that. And for $15 I can get MANY hours of entertainment.

And I have this crazy notion that game companies need to make money so I am happy to sub and I have warmed up to battle passes IF and ONLY if its not in addition to a sub. Where I take issue is when there is a sub and a battle pass and a store and 5 different currencies and and and. It gets outrageous and feels like you are being nickle and dimed to death.

And then there is if the stuff in the battle pass or store has an impact on the game. If the company wants to sell skins and pets and whatever, thats fine. I will only spend money if FOMO kicks in. But if they sell things that directly give an advantage, I take issue. Fallout 76 has started to dance this line now with weapons and upgrades in the battle pass. How much that impacts the game is questionable though.

As we have discussed in other threads, AGE is in trouble I think. NW is barely holding on (less than 10k players last I checked) and Lost Ark has nosedived off a cliff. If T&L is already in trouble, I think it will have a perfect home at AGS.

Battle Passes are getting a bad name, they will need to think up something new so player numties don't realise how much they need to pay to win again.
Battle Passes are just optional Subscriptions by another name.  For some reason people have an easier time paying for a "Battle Pass" than a sub..   Strange in my mind, but whatever.
If a Battle Pass was just a sub and that's all a game had apart from selling outfits I would not mind.

The trouble with these modern day "optional" subs is they often provide unique benefits such as unlimited crafting storage or such which are not all that optional for the average player.

FO76 and ESO are unbearable to play (for many at least) w/o paying for the sub.

Couple that with a cash shop that offers special houses, building materials, the coolest looking cosmetics or mounts and even special classes, (which all should be included in the sub IMO) it gets to be too much, at least for me anyways.

Then to add in the "insult" of a battle pass on top and it just gets stupid.

Now if seasonal battle passes were the only option then all good, but adding in sub plus sought after items or convenience in the store?

    Clearly shows that

It's a tricky slope where battle passes are concerned because if you do not offer increased storage options or other benefits that do not directly relate to combat , why would anyone buy a battle pass.

I'm no expert on seasonal passes but the two games I've purchased them in didn't offer any added storage or combat related benefits.

One of the few seasonal passes I ever bought was in NW which was a B2P game with possibly the most uninspiring cash shop I've ever seen in any game.

It was a decent value, basically a series of achievements tied to newly released, free expansion content.

It gave rewards of various types but seeing I was already at character level cap most were useless to my main except for the gear boosting stones.

One good thing is any character in my account could claim the rewards regardless which one earned it so I did use the exp boosters and low level gear rewards on my alts.

It was actually a bit over the top really, I actually didn't claim more than a third of the rewards as they would have been useless clutter and storage space was still a bit of a premium in my houses.

It all felt a bit pointless, sort of a longer version of dailies in other games or similar to FO76's seasonal passes and such content has come to bore me these days.

Both games had an option for both season pass holders and non buyers to participate in the seasonal events, just with fewer rewards for the freeps.

It's the cash shop that's the problem.  Not the sub/BattlePass.   Consider the Sub/BattlePass the actual game and any F2P just an unlimited demo.
