Lmfao, now that's a terrible looking game. It makes sense that it's based on web3.

This quote tells me all I need to know it isn't optional to ignore the "Web 3" elements and that this is just another crypto crap game which can DIAF far as I'm concerned.

"While any player can find, earn, or craft Aetherials, selling or trading them isn’t necessary, though you’ll miss out on some notable weapon enhancements if you decide not to ascend your weapon."

    >_> "optional"

That's just another way of saying: turn off your brain and just ignore the nefarious activity.

It's like joining a motorbike club and saying motorbike is optional.

I've played the closed beta and the game focuses on what matters which is item progression reminding me of D2. The talent tree gives me my dosage of theorycrafting and lootable skills with procedurally generated skill tree is another interesting tweak.

The article mentions about ascending items making them Aethereal with better stats. Any player can do this with materials found in-game by crafting at an NPC. This is accessible to everyone. Not sure if the person who wrote the article understood this part correctly. The optional part is secondary market trading outside of the game and after talking to the devs they are using this to protect players from duping issues or getting scammed by another player when an item is not delivered etc.

The overall impression after playing for three days has been positive and I like the steampunk approach to the world. The closed beta has its bugs and glitches but is a lot more polished than many other closed betas that I've tried.

I'll wait an reserve judgement for when the game gets closer to launch, but usually ascending into an NFT in most games requires token materials that are on chain.

Usually they give a very small amount of on chain materials, and most games with "tokenomics" use multiple token currencies, where players usually have to buy a token to ascend to an NFT.

If that's not the way this works, and they are solely ascending through in game only currency, that's interesting. But that also reduces the potential for monetization,  because there's no guarantee items will sell.

There has to be some kind of revenue trigger. I don't see any items on the marketplace yet, so I'm not sure if they even have their final plan in place in how they plan to integrate the sphere marketplace.

Having played the beta quite extensively as well as the earlier alpha - I am quite impressed to be honest.

Now am I a veteran Diablo/PoE player? No. But I have played over 100 games in this web3 ecosystem in their early alpha/beta stages as a reviewer and tester, so here's my honest opinion.

First of all the graphics, for where the game is at currently, It is done well. Does it need polishing and improvement? Of course, its a closed early beta. Comparing this to its arguably main competitor, it currently has more appeal than Seraph.

Second the gameplay, with it being a beta, there's only three areas with a limited story that display the current gameloop very well in my opinion. The item system as well as the skill tree are easy to understand and develop upon. Of course there's a few areas which could be made ''prettier'' but overall the build is super stable, actually has difficulty and settings to change this (not often seen in web3 games) aswell as enough incentivisation (without rewards) to keep me playing until the end of the loop as such.

The music and sfx are a standout for its current phase, where there's only minor errors which is unbelievable for a closed beta stage, most other games i've tried in these stages lack a lot of this and it takes away from the enjoyment of the experience. The CoN team have done really well here.

Overall I believe this game is well on its way to being a great ARPG title, of course it still has a lot to add for example the lore and using this to introduce a ''purpose'' of the character but I believe that things like these are more for the main game release as proving the integral gameloop is more important.

If you're skeptical on the game, give it a chance if you can and you'll quickly realise the team is onto something here. Do take into account its in closed beta, and comparisons to fully released games are always going to difficult as this title is a minimum 1 year away from full release.

Oh and also on the web3 front, yes there's nfts involved in a way and it might not let you get the best cosmetics or have some subtle changes to the gameplay but the CoN team is one of the least token centric teams I've met in the space - but the main benefit (in my eyes) of this ecosystem is that you can work closely together with the games to make a DIFFERENCE. Use this advantage and give as much feedback as you can, its all good flaming things - but when do you actually get to make an impact?

Couple of insightful posts from new joiners but I'll have to remain wary until more evidence is available.

Maybe this will be the first WEB3 game to not suck.
