A minor season patch but addressing uniques is good.  I'll likely just complete the season journey and bail.

I think it's time they addressed trade a bit though.  At least with a POE type API that allows you to more easily make trades.

Season 5 is 2 month away and they are already pushing PR for it? Wasn't this season such a huge sucess? Shouldn't they focus on this season that has been the "resurrection" of the game and it's seeing hunders of thousands of players login daily?

Blizzard has become the Cramer of gaming. Whatever they say, truth is the opposite, whatever they promote as the next hit, is the next flop.

I mean is ok to hate, but.. you are on the wrong time-line here. Hating on D4 was cool in S1 and S3 .

S4 is a huge success. And no, they aren't pushing anything. I mean if you want to go theory conspiracy sure.

They are already focus on S4 too. What's wrong if they also focus on S5 ?! We just had a very good patch in S4. Its clearly you don't even follow the game, let alone playing it.

    Just your usually ..hater.

    Carry on.

I don't get these seasons. What's the selling point? Can't you just create alts without someone telling you to do so?

Typically each season has a special mechanic that changes up the way the game plays to keep things fresh for that want some variety. There are free and paid versions of each season, with the latter coming with more cosmetics earned through play. Participating in a season requires making a new character.

You can create non-seasonal characters when you like on the Eternal server but they can't participate in season play.

Basically if you want to do seasons you must reserve at least one character slot for the purpose,

It's toxic fomo. You're gonna see a lot of people here using sweet words and euphemism to describe toxic fomo. But at the end of the day, it's toxic fomo.

You guys are acting like you've never played D2, PoE, D3, etc, which literally is what D4 is doing with the seasons.

If..that's the case, then ARPGs, ala Diablo style are not for you and you should ...carry on?

I mean why comment on something you literally don't play or have no desire of playing?

My feedback as a player who likes the game.

    - The seasons (and battle passes) are way too short. I hate feeling pressured to finish things or put down other games because I must put time into the battle pass or season. It just puts me off playing entirely even if I do like the game. FO76 is another example of a rude hostile season/BP like this.

    - Battle pass or seasons, pick one, not both. Integrate the battle pass system into the season.

    - Battle passes should be unlimited expiration, like Helldivers 2 or Halo Infinite. They aren't common, but they exist and are player friendly and anti-FOMO.

    - Offer the system in D3 where existing characters can be copied to the season and then keep the rewards once the season ends.

Yeah good try shiting on someone you dont know jack shit about. I have D4. I Play D4 (not much since I tried the "great" S4 which is just an OP and fast leveling season).

S4 is mediocre at best. Next season has the expasion launch in between so it's gonna be a mess. They just keep promoting the next big thing to bait people time and time again to be abused.

Blizzard is the pimp and you are the junky bitches that come for more no matter how abused and exploited you are.

For the most part, no. Their seasons don't act as launching platforms for permanent full additions to the base game. A few things inspired by them have trickled in but for the most part seasonal adaptations are limited to their specific season.

There is nothing "toxic" about the seasons. They offer a variety in play that one can freely participate in or not. The purchasable versions give access to more rewards that can be earned through play but the season content itself is freely accessible.

Battlepasses became the new flavor of the month, and just like all of the things of the past, they will come to an end. I am glad to see Conan Exiles get rid of theirs. I wish Blizzard would keep seasons, get rid of the BP's, and just drop the stuff in the store. It would be so much easier.

Of course I wonder if they thought about the proverbial end game of character slots - what happens when you have no more room? Season 25 and I have 26 characters.....huh? I do prefer the D3 system for sure.

I mean, you don't lose your character. It just rolls into the non-season realm when the season ends. You can continue your journey from there....

I'm a bit confused at any outrage though. PoE has been doing this with their leagues for...seemingly forever at this point. These D4 season behave in a similar, familiar manner. There may be fair criticism between where to two differ in implementation, but all I'm seeing so far is "Seasons bad!" and, to that end, they are easy to avoid...

They have already announced an upcoming expansion that will do exactly that as was teased at the current end of the main story.

The announced release date is October 8th, 2024.

Part of it is a new class that has never been in any prior Diablo game.

If I recall correctly seasonal mechanics in PoE tended to be integrated into non-seasonal play more often and completely than in DIV.

True and that'd be a place where they differ in implementation. It's been a bit since I played PoE, but I think another implementation difference is that DIV season gives you the option to skip the campaign if want whereas PoE sent you through the campaign each time (though someone else can keep me honest if I'm remembering that correctly).

One point that is consistent between to two is that once the season/league ends, the character is just moved to the non-season/non-league portion of the game to continue with the "character you have spent ages already leveling up" as it were.

It's been a long time since I've played PoE so don't recall but I do like that I can skip the campaign in seasons and get right to the seasonal content. It is what I'm playing the season for after all.

You can continue with the character if you want after it goes to Eternal, allowing you to have alts without playing through the main story again as you would normally have to if they started on the Eternal sever. A handy option for those inclined.

With the changes in the last update I found it took less time for me to level and that moving up in tiers was far smoother than before for me.

I am not aiming this at D4, its the season system that needs a boot. Or should I say whatever the Battle Pass/Season etc entails. As it is just a label under which players are fed little or no content. Avoiding is all well and good, but content is key.

I hear what KnightFalz said about the expansion, that's great, that's what MMO-like needs to see.
  • AeanderAeander Member LegendaryPosts: 8,028
Aren't all hardcore runs in ARPGs basically Roguelike experiences already?

Anyway, seasons are good if progression is quick. Problem is, D4 has the xp curve of an MMO, not an ARPG.

But... why? Season's in D4 are basically just another game mode with some cosmetic rewards. It's another way to play the game, that has some differences/mechanics each season, and I'm not sure what's really wrong with that.

As KnightFalz pointed out, even with Seasons, new content has been announced and has a release date for D4. So, that being true, Seasons aren't the culprit as to why other games release little to no content.

    DIV seasons aren't content releases.

There are two basic ways to play DIV, Eternal and Seasonal. Eternal severs are standard DIV play that endures. Seasonal servers are modified DIV play that is temporary.

Content is released through expansions. In the one upcoming this fall a new continent will be added and the main story of the game will be continued. A new class rounds out the package. In a way it is like the expansion of DIII, but on a larger scale.

At that point DIV will have as much content as a Diablo games usually get, but if I recall correctly they intend to have more than one expansion. If that is so it will become the largest Diablo world yet.
