How are they going to combat lag I played from the beginning through firefoot being closed and moving to crickhollow but the lag on my warden finally broke me and i stopped after the corsair expansion. The skill lag is unbearable on a warden it is hard to maintain timing and builders for gambits with it.
I feel like they they have given a lot of lip service but not a lot of concrete actual solutions. When you talk about it on the forums people are always its your connection I get no lag it must be you nonsense, which i think just lets the devs go nonsensically through their day ignoring the problem.
I love lotro if they fixed the lag i would be back tom its the only mmo my wife wants to play.

If everyone had the same lag, in the same place and the same times, they'd probably be able to fix it.

BUT that's not how lag works, it's different for everyone 99% of the time (the big lag spikes seem to get us all across the board).

You say the skill lag on your warden is unbearable, I don't seem to have any problems on my warden.  I too started on Firefoot, but went to Landy and am currently playing through Gundabad after some time in Outer Gondor.

Yes I freeze up from time to time and yes I get short periods when lags kicking in and out, but on the whole I'm pretty untroubled by it.

I get that lag seems to effect some much more than others and I guess I've been lucky.

One would hope that shifting to a 64bit server will help.

"Interestingly enough, the servers will be getting a new event called the Veil of the Nine. This Ringwrait-themed event will see players attacked by the Nazgul. "

    Then they're not classic servers.

I think it’s fine to introduce new events on classic servers.

Besides They’re not really classic servers as they don’t have the game mechanics that the original game had.

Which is why Daybreak needs to stop calling them "classic servers" in all of their games. But I guess "Sad, Half-Baked Attempts At Milking Nostalgia Dollars From Gullible Player's  Wallets Servers" wouldn't sell as many subs.

This is misuse of the term and seems odd, if the game mechanics are the same does that mean there are just less zones to go to?

I gave up playing my warden at level 53 due to the lag so you are not alone. Re-rolled as a bear instead which I really enjoyed. I played on Arkenstone.

They are essentially servers without certain expansions. What they really are, are time gated (forget the exact term) servers where players can play up to a certain point and then continue once they add an expansion.

I just cant fathom not having earlier code from the start. I thought saving versions was "a thing." I guess not.

The thing is, players who go on about nostalgia talk more about the old gameplay mechanics than not having to bother with xyz gameplay. I don't remember anyone going "Ahh wasn't it great when we could get no further than Moria?

They don't use (and I don't think ever have) the term 'classic'.  They call them 'Legendary Servers'.

I'll add, I've never had the lag problems that people complain about. Not sure why some have horrible lag but it's never been an issue.

I suppose the caveat to that is when riding a war steed. THAT slips and slides around. It's an embarrassment how poorly that feature works.

The event is interesting but I'm surprised there is still enough demand for new "Legendary" servers. Especially at normal progression rates.

If you go to the lotro forums right now there is two different threads on the first two pages talking about insane lag. I get that not all people get the same amount of lag and it is definitely more noticeable on certain characters. But tons of people do get tons of lag and almost everyone gets lag at some point depending on the server and the time of day. Thats not a me problem thats a SSG problem. My original comment said they give it lip service they have a pattern of doing this for several years now with lots of things.

Before corsairs launched they promised certain crafting things that they either delayed well into this year or couldn't even deliver ever. This is my point I bought the expansion on the promise of a 4th crafting class and not having to go back on every tier the 4th crafting class got delayed until sometime after launch and the being able to start on the new crafting tier a few days before launch we were told it wasn't possible. Why tell us about a feature you don't even know if you can do. SSG over promises and under delivers in epic ways. They keep talking about new servers and fixing lag at this point they haven't earned enough trust to warrant anything from me until they can prove it with actual evidence that its going to happen. I have been playing since 2007 turbine certainly had its ups and downs and so has ssg I appreciate their a small company but don't make promise you have no idea you can even keep. That was my real only point and like i said in the og post you get people who come on and defend it becuase they don't have problems so it must not be happening if SSG is mentioning then its happening.

I guess if Everquest 1 and 2 can keep cranking out the nostalgia servers, then why not LoTRO?

They certainly can and give EU one makes sense.  I just didn't think the population was strong enough anymore for another.  A lot of content creators bailed on legendary servers to stay on their main servers where they did most content.

lag has been a consistent issue since the game first launched, it's an issue with the server software itself.

I have had lag myself and played for about the first seven years, but I rarely had it and never found it to be egregious, it may have got worse since then of course.

I am not sure what servers they are using but I suffered from lag in Dungeons and Dragons Online but not in Everquest 2 or Everquest. So I guess they are not using the same architecture for the servers.

I am relatively sure that they are all connected Standing Stone and Daybreak so they must be sharing some of the resources however the lag in both Lord of the Rings Online and DDO is quite annoying. It annoyed me enough to drop the game.

That is DBG in a nutshell.  Their TLE servers don't seem to be popular enough anymore and seeing the success of WoW Classic, they just rename their new TLE servers "Classic" servers to scam more people into paying a sub to check it out, only to be disillusioned shortly after that it's no Classic at all.

The lag in LOTRO goes way back to when the Rohan expansion was released. They did something to the game they never managed to figure out nor fix ever since.

It's maddening and why I uninstalled the game and no longer play it. It doesn't matter what kind of PC you have, even if it's top specced like I have now.
The lag is server side and most prominent in the Rohan areas, but it happens in other areas too.
You can almost put a timer on it, when you get these short freezes (Stutters).

Wonder if these servers will run better than the potatoes they usually use for them. Are they also planning on making the UI scale correctly on even the most budget up to date system finally?

It's so sad because I want to play both LotRo and DDO but this issue keeps me away and it really makes me angry that they cannot solve it. Why can't they solve it????

I was just looking up when the legendary servers were coming (what brought me here), then your post made me think I should try DDO again. Which leads me to think I likely shouldn't do either :)

Maybe a lot of people have forgotten the insane rubberbanding when trying to transition "server slices". Or entering a zone and seeing no mobs and not being able to chat because both the NPC and chat servers got out of sync with the zone server and it took them forever to reconnect. Might as well mention the insane input lag when the servers started to struggle.
