Here's a spoiler: the "graphical update" looks like shite. Redoing characters and faces only just makes blurry armor and environment textures stand out like a giant sore thumb.

That's the new Pictomancer outfit, by the way. Such quality, much wow.

Looked alright to me, but only alright. Clearly they need to spruce up the graphics for outfits for 8.0 and the environment for 9.0. A game this long in the tooth needs to update all its graphics, I was under the impression that was what 7.0 would do.

There seems to be a bug with 100% res. scaling atm, if you change it to 99% in settings it sharpens everything up. Or at least it was for the streamer I was watching.

Yes I thought so too. It said they would update a lot of the outdated textures, but I don't see much difference.
The lighting and Shadows is greatly improved though and that helps. So is water. Though not on-par with more current-gen games today.
My character still looks exactly the same. Don't see much difference if any lol.

I will check into this, thank you.
Edit: Just tried this, did not work unfortunately.
I don't play anymore but looks good to me. Way more detail than WoW, which I recognize the bar isn't super high there. Maybe you're critical because the game already looked pretty solid before the update? I dunno I'll shut up.

Sure, it did look good for being an old game. My problem isn't the crap textures on their own, it's that they upgraded character skin textures only which in turn makes everything else suddenly stand out as 15 years old and muddy. Even the new clothing looks old because the textures are the same low res.

It's weird though and something doesn't add up. My Endwalker cloak for example is way more detailed now, as was shown in the graphic update examples that they have updated textures on cloth fabric, etc.
Maybe they just ran out of time and couldn't finish all the texture updates before release, which I cannot blame them... it's a daunting task, updating 10+ years worth of textures.

Yes, it's possible. My Endwalker gear also looks to be a bit more detailed than before. I'd understand not getting all the old textures updated, but using old texture resolution for the newest outfit that belongs to the newest class that's one of the main selling points of the new expansion? That would not be an oversight, that would be laziness.

lvl80 quest gear (and quest gear in general) was probably on bottom of their list to update, since you cycle through it so quickly.
Since my current lvl90 gear from Endwalker (which I use as Glamour) is updated, so I think they focused on the gear people use as Glamour the most first. Like tomes gear, endgame gear, etc.
That would explain it though.

it actually looks pretty good!
Sure, if those were low settings and not "maximum" graphics on 2560 x 1440 @ 120Hz.

Enjoying the new areas and MSQ at the moment.
