Not too bad, but far from impressive. Especially if you're coming to it from Warframe or similar games. TFD is straight up Warframe systems and mechanics + Destiny visuals and guns.

But that's also part of its problem. I get the aim to emulate the successful games and their features, but if that's all you do, what exactly are you offering? I see a bland uninspired game with no identity or character of its own. It still plays ok, but if you want  Warframe mechanics, just go play Warframe. It does these things much better.

I ran into some pretty annoying bugs, especially with a dungeon boss who became permanently immune to any damage. They use this simplistic boss mechanic where a boss becomes immune and spawns 3 orbs that you have to destroy to be able to deal damage to the boss - you do that 3 times, the boss dies, that's it. Only this time at the end of an annoying 20m dungeon the orbs were completely invisible and untargetable, so 20m completely wasted. Same annoying thing sometimes happens in the open world, when the game spawns invisible game objectives - you only see a mission icon, but no actual object.

But the main issue I see with TFD is that the devs have tried to bite more than they can chew. Instead of starting with a small, well-polished core (the way Warframe started 11 years ago), they start big and spread themselves too thin. Then you end up with bugs, missing stuff, unfinished features, and a game that just feels lacking. Korean games are usually technically extremely well made, so I was very surprised by the relatively weak animations in this game - compared to Warframe, the player movements just feel odd and wooden at times. And for some reason, many of the assets look very cheap, as though they are placeholders - for example the mods. Honestly, I often had an impression this is a more polished beta test instead of a full launch...

I'll probably give it a few more tries, it's not a bad game per se, but with all its lifting of other games' features it just leads to the question 'well why not play those games instead?'. They generally do it better, to be honest.

Great summary. It's just too much for me personally, and while it didn't feel bad, it feels not done. I was hoping this was going to be a Helldivers 2 knockoff, or a Borderlands meets Destiny, but it isn't either. I'm looking for action without the constant frenetic button smashing of combos and magic augments.

In the character creation menu, scroll over skill descriptions and it the naming sounds like a generic placeholder, like what you'd name a variable or object reference rather than a specific item. Something like "when aim 'ultimate weapon' a bonus is applied to character". Maybe it's just weak translations, but like you said, it makes it feel unfinished and in beta mode.

The cash shop criticisms in the thread seem a bit intense. I didn't get far enough to see the cash shop so I can't speak from experience. I get that mismatched pricing and cash-coin bundles is predatory, but every single damn GAAS operator does this including Bethesda, Zenimax, Blizzard, Activision, Square-Enix, 2K, Rock Star, DayBreak, et al. What am I missing?

I have noticed it too, also on their TFD website, where parts of the text look very odd. Either done through machine translation or just a quick placeholder text. Even the battle pass flavour text describes this as a 'pre-season', so it might be just a public beta that is advertised as a full game release. No idea why, though.

But I must say, the game does grow on you after a while. Perhaps it's just its novelty, who knows. Let's see how the devs will work on fleshing out the key parts and filling in the missing stuff. I think it has the potential to eventually grow into something interesting, but for now it does feel pretty rough around the edges.

The pricing issue seems egregious especially in comparison with Warframe, which does this a lot better than TFD. Granted, it did take DE a while to get it right and they took a few wrong steps on the way, but their current monetisation is way less manipulative than Nexon's. And seeing as TFD will inevitably attract the same crowd, people will notice.

They do not know why, because they just repeat the same things over and over again that they heard or read somewhere.

Obviously, this is a tactic that has been used since the beginning of time, and if you do not like it do not buy it.  This is not like food where if you do not buy it, you die.  That's predatory.

Speaking of which, hot dog buns come in 8 packs, and hot dogs come in 10 packs...any bets on whether they think THAT'S predatory and are boycotting it?

Dude switch to decaf and relax. Why is this so upsetting to you that you dive straight for the expletives? I'm not taking any of this discussion very seriously. Trust me I won't lose a single second of sleep over it. It's just a discussion. If I wanted to buy every character in the cash shop I could and it wouldn't affect my finances at all. This isn't about me being forced into anything. This game certainly isn't forcing me into anything. I haven't so much as installed it. You definitely aren't forcing me into anything. I'm just pointing out the cash shop is set up a bit slimy is all. Why can't you just buy characters directly like you can in Warframe? Because they're being slimy, that's why. That's my only point.

played it fot quite a bit, and i gotta say it's pretty fun.
they have alot of options for endgame and the big boss fights are very fun to do.

the open world is a bit too easy tho. untill you unlock hard mode after finishing the MSQ

Loving it so far!  It's like destiny and warframe had a baby but with less BS like no vaulting BS.

I have not had any bugs, beyond needing to turn down my graphics to medium (it had auto put my 1080ti to high) so the game client wouldn't crash.

All gameplay loops worked flawlessly so far and I am finding it much easier to unlock stuff than in warframe.

One thing I read is that for hardmode there is no match maker, you need to find friends instead which is something they will need to change if true.

Saying a new game "doesn't have vaulting" isn't a meaningful statement. How would they even have vaulting on launch? If they do it, which they probably will if the game doesn't get shut down, it'll be later, obviously.

I'm not a fan of vaulting in Warframe, but it's many orders of magnitude better than Destiny 2. For one, it's loot, not content. And they cycle vaulted stuff back every month as opposed to Destiny's "someday(tm)".

And you can still get it if one of your teammates has the old relic, which actually happens pretty often from my experience, as someone who is returning after 5 years of missed rewards. It's really exciting every time it happens.

Vaulting suck arse and always did and yeah TFD is new but I havent heard of any talk of vaulting but if they do at some point I will say it sucks arse then too.

As far as I am concerned destiny's GAAS model is sucky and  and vaulting is a negative not a positive in any game.

Many orders of magnitude is 100% accurate when one game removes content from people who paid for it without their consent. That's theft.

Thanks for this info. I didn't realize Warframe vaulted content. The fact that Destiny is a dumpster of mismanagement and hostile monetization doesn't make the issue less egregious in Warframe. I was actually going to try Warframe out for context and reference, but if they vault stuff, they can GTFO just like Destiny can. It's scummy.

"X game does it so y game is less scummy" isn't the argument.

Warframe isn't scummy because it isn't scummy. It does not make content or loot unavailable. What it does do is clean the relic loot pool over time, which barely matters because any one of your 3 teammates can carry the relic with the loot you want. You get to pick the loot you want out of your team's drops. It's fairer than most MMO loot systems, period.

Steam reviews are mixed, so might want to read through some of the negative reviews before diving into this one. For sure waiting for the first patch would be wise. I will say the thing I found off-putting was this:

descendants cost 300 and 600 to buy, cash shop is fixed at 250 and 520, damn just short, what can you expect from nexon

but they can all be grinded for free soo wtf is he on about lol

The fact that the monetization is predatory....but if you don't see it,  I'm not bothering to explain why.

Many orders of magnitude is 100% accurate when one game removes content from people who paid for it without their consent. That's theft.
It is in accordance to the terms that must be agreed to before the game is played, so is not theft.

MMO developers are not thieves when they remove access to content because you dont actually own anything in an MMO.

    "But, I bought the expansion"

Thats great, but it doesnt matter. You own the data of the expansion on your harddrive, thats about it.

Its their game and they can do anything they want with it, they just allow you access to it.

If you feel like you've been wronged in some way, you can always sue them, you'll be laughed out of court but at least your fellow forum nerds will be behind you.
