Can't say I love their games but they did have a strong following. Once again, that's what happens when you take a risk and allow another company to acquire you. You end up being victim to their decisions.
Good luck with his new studio. I hope he rehires his people.

Huge loss. Love their games, jank and all. Gothic was one of my favorite games of all time.
Some of the all time best action rpgs. Real emphasis on adventure and atmosphere, instead of copy pasting boring locations and enemies like an Ubisoft title.
I discovered them awhile after they came out. Really got into them. Wish them well.

Just last night I was looking through "Coming to Xbox" on my console and saw the 2023 trailer for the Gothic remake. It looks so good. The dialog in the trailer felt so natural.
I agree it's a loss because they made RPGs for a certain kind of fan and there aren't a lot of these kinds of games being made anymore.
I have played them all apart from Elex 2 which is on the wishlist. I can remember having a laugh when I saw the reviews of Elex and all the warnings they had about the various ways old school open world RPGs would put of the modern player. That's why they got a MC score under 70 and realising that I just got them anyway. With all that "extra difficulty" they are hardly Dark Souls you just have read a guide, to me that's the main reason the score was poor!

I don't think they were remaking Gothic, I believe it's THQ Nordic so at least that should release.

Make bad games no one wants to buy and this happens.... Simples.
All of their games have at least a Very Positive on Steam, and that's def not the only storefront you can buy their games. The games aren't bad by any means. You are simples, agreed....it's more about being acquired by a huge investment group who cares even less about the industry than [insert shady publisher].
Some of my best memories of playing RPGs are from Gothic 2 and Risen. Those games had everything I wanted from an RPG, a handcrafted world where exploration is really rewarding, great atmosphere, memorable characters, a good story, challenging (albeit a bit janky) combat and almost perfect dialoges with some of the best voice acting I've heard (at least the german original VA, don't know how good the english VA was)
I was really sad when they lost their Gothic trademark rights but then they did Risen and it was basically Gothic all over again and I was satisfied.
After those games I've lost track of PBs games and still haven't played Elex but I'm planing to change that.
I wish those devs well and hope their new studio will continue their legacy

You can still buy them and it seems the reviews are "mostly positive."

Alkimia Interactive, but yeah THQ Nordic is still the publisher.
