"With a unique blend of cozy escapism, true-crime, and horseback riding"

You have to admit that is pretty damn unique, the question is will it me more My Little Pony (Cosy) or Dick Francis (Horse Racing Crime). The fact I am putting those two concepts in the same sentence indicates how bizarre this may turn out. But bizarre does not mean bad game, will be interesting to see the "runners and riders".

See you in 2030 for early access. ;)

What is with this trend of "cozy" games? Let alone cozy mmorpgs.

It's not a trend, more a fully fledged "must have", it is even starting to overtake "survival" as the must have buzz word for a studios new MMO.

7M lol lets not forget Ashes supposedly had 25M in funding and its been in development for 7+ years, so the chances of these guys having something out any time soon is near 0. Plus with NetEase involved, its either gonna have some kind of mobile component or end up being mobile

It's just a label/tag people add to games, across genres, that are chill. The trend is popular with a lot of people who like games without hardcore soulslike sweaty challenge and penalties. Of course mainstream game studios see money on the table and are trying to chase that like they have done with WoW.

If we go by how predatory and slimy other Euro GAAS publishers are, we can expect a heavy and expensive cash shop loaded with gacha and pay to win.

That is my question too. 7m seems a lot, but is it even enough to start a MMO project nowadays?

Not an expert by any means, but i don't think so.

Just the latest sucker's bait term to get investors open their wallets now that VR, NFT, Blockchain, AI, and the like have started to lose some of their charm.
