A lot of role-players myself included felt DnD 4th was created like it was a video game. 5th moved away from that but still leans somewhat towards a video game feel in my eyes. Obviously, I am hoping this appointment does not steer DnD back to the 4th edition direction.

Just looked into this more and one guy I trust on the business side of roleplaying recons this shows a big push to digital, not just for video games for TTPRG as well. He looked at the software they already have out to play DnD on your mobile and said "you will be playing around the table using your mobile and the GM will be on his laptop. They are pushing to move away from physical books to a live service DnD, you will own nothing just rent it like any live service game".

I really hope he is wrong, we shall see.

Yeah if you have a good group like in Critical Role or have an awesome table and dungeon room like Joe Maganiello has, sure thing

While I am a CR fan myself they are as much a performing group as they are a roleplaying group. What do you expect from a bunch of voice actors? :)

    It's inevitable.

They are focused on catching up to Virtual Tabletops like Foundry and Roll20. They will funnel people into D&D Beyond.

Imagine getting pissed at a roll that kills your character and slamming that table. You think he'll get mad?
