Maybe having a custom launcher is mistake for an online game. It's bad optics for what little revenue or data gain they're convinced they'll get. Blizzard can get away with it, but these guys don't have the wow factor. They've fractured their community and it's costing them.
Then again, if a game uses steam and they have a small audience for their game, that could also be bad. Especially for people looking to see if a particular game is popular.
I wonder if a developer can shut off that type of tracking for their games?

They just started a Guild 7 day trial thing. To get keys for your guild:
"It’s very simple! Join our Discord server and write a PM to jacopo_prometheus.
I will join the Discord server of your community to verify it’s all good and send you the required keys!"
Solo players aren't eligible but they do mention that some content creators have keys to hand out on Twitch.
I wonder if a developer can shut off that type of tracking for their games?
