The games lore has been parked, sounds like "anything goes" is the design philosophy.
When the game went under SSG, the Lore was instantly parked. This has been going on for so long now. Lore no longer matters to them.
Just cashing in with whatever they can get away with.

I think one has to think of it as an "event" and not a part of the Lord of the Rings story. Something outside of everything and just a bit of fun.
While I would prefer to have more of a "world" that's not what was made so some of these things are to be expected.
But they could make it more lore friendly without much effort. For example why does it have to be the rings of power that help? Make up an item and add it to the games lore rather than take something totally inappropriate from existing lore.
so this servers arent progressive ? just cap to 50 and then migrate ? boooh
They are. 1st cap is just at 50, than it'll open up like the other legendary servers have.
They said Angmar will be closed once it gets to where the normal game is at and Mordor will stay open pat that point as long as it's financial viability.
Have they given more details about the Rings and each of their powers? I hope they aren't all the same and the only bonus granted it the ability to do big damage to the Wraiths - but that is kind of what I'm thinking it'll be, sadly.

Does anyone have more deets??
It's pretty much what they explained in the article. 12 Rings spread out in the game world as RNG loot. When equiped it will give a temp boost in damage against these Nasgul, before ring despawns and re-enters the loot pool. Someone in a group needs to loot a ring or it will be neigh on impossible to kill them.
It's SSG after all. Too much work and effort to make 12 unique rings with unique powers for this event.
It wouldn't be past them, to add this event (if succesful enough) to the live servers in the future and put the rings as temp items in the Cash shop.

Because you're still making up an item. There is no item that makes Nazgul weak.
Again, it's just "an event." It's outside the story and just something "fun."
It's like doing a holiday event and making santa clause monsters or giant easter bunnies that can fight back.

Something similar to this would make Nazgul weak and its right there in lore, took me a minute to think of but they could not. Dire. :
Phial Of Galadriel.
So there will be 12 phial's of Galadriel?
Just as bad.
Again, it's an event that's "outside" of regular game play.
Though, I'll be honest, I wish there WERE Nazgul out and about in the regular game to menace players and that players would have to come out in numbers to drive them away.

I played to level 14 or so and the wraiths are annoying for my hunter. Half the time there is no one nearby and you have to run away as three hits kill you.
Some classes, and better skilled players than I, can solo them fine.
I quit after one spawned in an epic quest instance and killed me. It then booted me out of the instance to have to rerun.
I'll keep the game installed and return to my alt that was around the same level on a normal server. I'd rather just level all the way to Umbar.
Oh, and all the xp boosts people can buy had them at the cap ridiculously fast. That stuff should be kept off of legendary servers, but they want the money too badly.
The steamcharts numbers are disappointing in that there was barely a boost on their launch. If players finally getting a dedicated 64 bit client and a EU server couldn't bring in more players nothing will at this point. Well nothing other than them making a true classic server using all of the original systems and tuning.

A Nazgul spawning in a solo EPIC quest instance, that is just a classic SSG mess-up as usual.
It would have been better if Turbine let the game die to be honest. I know it's not a popular opinion, but tell me what SSG has done to the game that is "positive"? Other than that the servers are still running that is.
I used to be a die-hard LOTRO fan and player, but ever since SSG came into existence and took over the game, it all went to shit. At least once a year, I get the urge to reinstall the game, just to uninstall it again the same day. The whole game is just a mess. It also runs horribly and only gotten worse as time goes on. 64bit didn't help, since the problems run deep, with some server related.
No real difference than their attempted 'PvP' server. Just a limited time event to try something different.
Just because it is an event does not mean they can switch their brains off. They are not even making a token attempt at following lore just going by "brands" and "iconic":
Clueless Game Designer: "What we going to call the items then?" His More Clueless Designer Mate: "Rings of Power, that ticks iconic".
I genuinely believe that's about as much thought as went into it, after all I did not have to do a days work to come up with something better. But my more lore friendly idea was not "iconic".

Just copying the name and hype from Amazon's "Rings of Power" TV series.... no matter that it takes place in the previous Age and that most of these rings were destroyed! Elrond still has his and so is Galadriel. Are the only ones I know of and of course the One ring that Frodo has on it's way to destroy. /facepalm
So now in LOTRO, 12 of the Rings of Power magically reappear again. LOL.

I’ll tell you right now that I’m more “for lore “ than not.
I don’t think there should be loremasters or Rune throwers, keepers or whatever they are called.
I don’t like how they did Moria nor do I like how they made the old forest so easy.
Still, I get the idea of an event that isn’t part of the world presentation.
Just like any holiday event. They could have made an event that didn’t break lore but I suspect they just wanted to make something fun and a bit dangerous in this case.

I do accept that as an event is does not have to be as lore based as normal. But what we are talking about here is something lore breaking they did not need to do. There was no reason apart from iconic to make it rings of power.
I had no issues with Loremasters but the Rune Keepers went too far. I liked Moria (unless it's changed and the guild has not mentioned it) but I do think the old forest is now too easy.
When it comes to lore we all draw a line somewhere and it is never always going to be in the same place, but it is when the rational is purely marketing not game design that I have to say that's rubbish.
