It seems Microsoft and Activision-Blizzard is gearing to make a new team for new projects--and these could be big developments. But not too big.

    People think gaming is doing great and we have studios deciding to do no more AAA games. That is not healthy at all. May I suggest that it is the obsession with live service that is turning off players; ditch that, make it AAA and players will flock to it.

    This is what they should have been doing all along. Not every game needs to be this massive undertaking. They have some good IP's an a lot that could be done with them. Never understood why they did do more than they did with them to begin with. Hell lately the small dev teams have out produce most major studios left and right with quality and fun games.

    Microsoft obviously needs more mobile games for their Xbox branded mobile games store which should be launching very soon.

    So, I would expect these King developed Blizzard mobile games to be quick cash grabs.

    But, hey, at least you'll get another StarCraft RTS ...for your phone. You all have phones right?

    Blizzard's problem isn't DEI.  It's mainly the removal of good pay and paid bonuses.  The best designers bailed to get better compensated. 

    Bobby Kotick set them up for short term gains at the cost of their long term reputation.  He achieved his goals but Blizzard is not close to the juggernaut they were.

    I would say good, they probably will have one vision for a small game. But, no matter what, the sales team is going to put in all the micro fluff, the dei team will get in the way of the design team, then management will want it rolled out 3 quarters earlier.

    I dont know when molesting started BUT games WERE better then also funny thing talking about molesting when i was talking about dei ....xD

    more DEI and more rainbows, I am getting tired of the fascist in the USA and alot of other people are too, do we need to turn this thread into a political debate about freedom against the magat fascism?

    how does a triple A studio make AA games? and yes the real problem is everything is live service now, I have not bought a game I wanted to play becuase it was single player but it required internet connection.

    Sorry about my rant above but others need to keep thier opinions to themselves about politics, if you delete my post then delete all that reference politics.

    Describe what you look at as Facism, because what is happening is pretty much the opposite - where a minority opinion is gaining so much traction that it’s infested the movie and game industry - in fear of getting «canceled».
    No longer can you make a movie or series without an inclusive cast, even though it doesn’t make sense. Amongst the cast there’s at least one person with some sort of anxiety / ptsd, while at least one of main cast or one close to the main cast will have to be lbqt friendly - no matter how the original script was.
    Gone is originality - in comes «fear of social media cancelation»
    are we really gonna go here? this is an mmorpg/gaming web site and forum, I need permission from the people that run this forum to go there, but I am going to have no problem pointing out the new repube racist dog whistle "DEI" and how maga is fascism and how regardless of your feelings the people who spend the cash to make shows and movies have the freedom to include any damn thing they choose in the shows they make regardless of how you think it should go

    Blizzard is just trying downplay expectations for their next releases.

    There will be nothing AA about the next game except the revenue it generates.


    Here is my prediction (1=Low, 10 = High)

    Budget = 9-10 (AAA)
    Dev Staff Counts = 9-10 (AAA)
    Graphics = 8-10 (AAA)
    Game Price = 8-10 (AAA)
    Game Cash Shop = 8-10 (AAA)
    Excuses = 10

    Gameplay = 1-2 (Junk)
    Fun Factor = 1-2  (Junk)
    Value = 1-2  (Junk)

    Revenue = 6-7 (AA)
    Profits = 4 (A)

    A smart move. AAA or A team is wokring on their big projects. AA or B team will have B team members. They will probably be 'hungrier' and trying to get to the AAA status. They are probably not as entrenched in the existing IPs, so they will be a bit more flexible in creativity. My bet is that they were given the mission 'think outside this way, the AAA team can continue and the AA team can be creative on a budget. Even a AA team will be top notice crew, being blizzard.

    We'll see, but it can definitely pay off and if it doesn't...meh, Blizzard has the money and they know they are taking a bit of a risk.

    If King is involved AA is code talk for mobile games or pc games that can be played on mobile. So, most likely the equivalents of Warcraft:Immortal to look forward to. never know though, might be something kind of ok to come out if it but unlikely.

    The quality of Blizzard games was on a fast downward trajectory long before DEI was a thing and long before the reversal of its toxic bro culture.
