Hmm somehow i missed the original article about this game from 2022, was not even on my radar, going to have to research it :)

Ok just had a quick look and most reviews even from *softball* review sites have this game at 5/10, even IGN has it at 4/10.

Think i will leave this one alone until its out on Steam a few weeks so others can test the waters.

I missed it also, probably because it was an Epic store exclusive I totally ignored it.

Will have to give it a look.

    -- Launched as Epic exclusive
-- Yet ANOTHER survival crafting game
    -- Bad reviews
-- Everyone who has ever played it is already sick of it
-- Smacks of someone trying to use a beloved IP to cash in on the popularity of a gaming trend

I can't think of any reason to give it a try.

It's a fun game, been solo most of the time but the discord for the game is pretty active with people playing.

I know a good group playing it. But like many survival crafting games, it comes in waves just like with Valhiem and Conan too. I may have to consider it on Steam.

A friend plays this with their game group and likes it. We share a lot of common gaming interests so I'll definitely check it out.

The biggest downsides to me are that, in general, I don't like playing dorf races in fantasy games and this is all dorfs. Another is the LotR IP. Much like Marvel, DC, and Star Wars, I'm sort of sick of the IP and how games are shackled and constrained by the lore. I'd much rather play something like "Deep Rock Galactic" with its own take on them, than something trying to interpret the concerns of a long dead guy and the financial interests of the subsequent estate stakeholders.

Outside of that though, I've heard it's a neat little survival builder and I like the idea of digging and building. We'll see. Maybe it will visit GamePass for a bit and I can try it out.

Hmm, not sure I can sell the female players in our group to play as dwarves, for them these games are as much about looking good as killing stuff

It might be one of these deals where it’s more fun to play than watch.

I have had girls in the guild pick a Dwarf to make a statement but that's rare, I think some pick Hobbits because they identify with them as smaller women. But there are plenty of other reasons they would pick Hobbits. There is a reason Humans are always the most played race, playing what you know, ease of identification.

For guys, being big and beefy can attract, hello Orcs and Trolls etc. As we are not as concerned about how we appear to others the fact you have fangs arching out of your face or fur is not an issue. :)

Don't waste your money. I bought it for PS5 when it released and it was a big mistake. It offers nothing new in the survival genre. The cool LotR aspects fall flat too - like being dwarves who you'd think could just start mining wherever they want - nope. They let you dig and mine, but only down predetermined mine shafts, so the freedom you get in most survival games is hampered by bad game design. You're left with the same old crap all the other games offer, except your dwarves drink and sing - woohoo /s

I can relate. Anyone can shoot stuff in a video game. Doing it with style is what makes it fun.
