Hero Shooter Concord's Reception On PC Was Definitely Not What PlayStation Hoped For | MMORPG.com
After launching last week on Steam and PlayStation 5, the latest hero shooter on the market, Concord, couldn't have had a more lackluster reception on PC.
It's too bad that while reviews for the game itself have been decent, the angry dude bro crowds of the internet have "review bombed" it across things like Google and Metacritic, despite never having played the game itself.
They're all mad for the perceived "social justice" views of some devs, and have spread a variety of half-truths and complete misinformation in order to "punish" the naughty company for being TOO inclusive (how is inclusiveness offensive?).
Aside from legitimate complaints about some honestly ugly character design choices, there's little negative to be seen in the game, despite the political posturing that seems to plague this VIDEO GAME.
I dunno. Could be just bad marketing. I'm not the game's demographic but this is literally the first I've heard of it. If their marketing got in front of me it was so generic and forgettable I just kept scrolling. According to the last election cycle slightly more than 50% of the US was liberal leaning at least in 2020, so there should be more than 600 interested in the game if it's all down to people's politics which I highly doubt. Probably just didn't differentiate itself enough in a very saturated market like opening a burger joint in a town that already has 50 restaurants that serve burgers. Good luck.
...snip..... the angry dude bro crowds of the internet have "review bombed" it across things like Google and Metacritic, despite never having played the game itself.
...snip....
"Review bombed" is a myth created to justify poor sales period. If people don't like something, regardless of their reasons, and review poorly then it's not review bombing.
Concord failed or had low sales and review scores cause people do not like what they were trying to sell period. If you as a company want to make money you need to sell your customers what they want
Black Myth Wukong is doing great cause they made a good game and offered what gamers wanted.
Very simple and it works the same way with movies...if you want a realistic idea on how its being received you never look at the "critics" scores or reviews but rather at what the general populace reacted to it.
I mean unless it's proven that something is being poorly or highly reviewed by millions of bots then sure you could say it been review bombed but that doesn't really happen.
When peeps cry review bombed what they mean is... I thought the game deserved a higher score OR I don't like the reason why the general population doesn't like this game/movie.....it's really a stupid low intellect, unrealistic way to try and invalidate what others think, cause you don't agree, and want to try and invalidate their opinion, character or feelings to try and uplift your own in the process somehow.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I'm more curious who thought this would actually be 'good.' I might be in the minority here in thinking that a character's pronouns or sexuality meaning jack squat when I want to shoot people in the face in a video game....The more realistic problem as to why it pretty much failed is why pay for that when you got a frick ton of free options....People would honestly just play OW2 until Marvel Rivals comes out. This game made zero sense.
I don't think the gamers playing this genre gave a shit about woke or no woke. The game was probably too expensive or not that great so it failed. Trying to shoehorn your reason into the failure is only done by people not actually playing these games but more interested in advancing their imagined reasons.
I will just point out to Mitech that if you have complaints about "ugly" characters you are not being inclusive enough yourself, you are not following your party line there.
But as this is getting political and I have even started going on myself, that's my last post here.
Not really a fan or the target audience for this type of game, didn't really get into Overwatch, so didn't pay attention to it during the Sony reveals.
Never would have even remembered it existed if not for this article, which i guess was written because of the astonishing level of money this game lost, as most fans of that genre seem to have a lack of interest given those player numbers, so not written for popularity purposes.
Last years black hole of money lost was that Lord of the Rings Gollum, so there were many articles about that, it lost so much the gaming studio division responsible was actually closed. I am guessing this game must be in the same boat with those numbers, the gaming equivalent of a car accident and everyone is rubbernecking.
Must be tough as a gaming developer to work hard on a product and have it released to colossal failure.
Knowing Sony who have been doing layoffs recently with studios that make them money, with the loss of money for this title it wont be long before some *restructuring* happens at this game studio and given the state of the video game industry with layoffs lately these employees are in for a rough go.
Honestly, when I saw the trailer and I was thinking it was a story game based on "the Guardians of the Galaxy we have at home," I was kind of digging it. Lost all interest the moment the gameplay part of the trailer started. I'm just not the target audience for a PvP first person shooter.
The "it failed because it's woke" narrative doesn't work when last year's GotY was woke af. Cry more, tourists.
Dont fix what isnt broken. Team fortress 2 is the shit.
^this, i honestly don't know why people just don't try and look at what truly works, and iterate on that.
As a Artist i get that need of wanting to create and do something different, but live-service multiplayer games aren't about serving creative and selfish artistic needs, it's about giving the audience what they actually want.

Well considering the first I heard of the game was when it's release was terrible, that's really bad marketing to begin with.
Combine that with the fact I saw a screenshot that says it requires a PSN account for even PC, well thats strike two.
And combine that with a saturated market of the same type of game, well thats strike 3.
And guess what, none of those have to do with being woke or politics. People need to really stop believing their hatred of a term and what it means affects every damn thing in this world.
All of this seems weird to me; however, in the highly competitive game market it seems that keeping one's political views to oneself would be the way forward.
I have to say I don't fall on either side of the fence, I think both the far left and far right are insane and both very often ignore facts so they can live in their fiction. But what ItsThatGuy wrote makes perfect sense. Woke isn't about being gay or straight, white or black, it's about agenda.
Prototype 1 was a white guy, Prototype 2 was a black guy, both great games. I enjoy both a lot. I never once thought to myself "I'm not playing P2 because he's black" that's stupid.
But when you ONLY tout your game as X is GAY or Y is Black or Z is Trans, then you're being disingenuous. You're telling me to play it BECAUSE of X, Y or Z and not because it's a great game.
Those are games that people will tend to avoid, when you're being overt about the wrong thing and then decrying the reviews or failures based on what you say is hate when in reality it's just a bad game. The fact is as, someone already pointed out, BG3 is game of the year, not in spite of what it is but because of it.

Loved Tomb Raider. Only choice was a female character.
But then I had to listen to a friend of mine go on and on about "more polygons".
Obviously not all woke stuff is a problem. Deadpool and Wolverine is "woke" but since it is incredibly successful people make excuses to downplay it.
I played the Concord beta, it was bland, and definitely not worth $40 when there are many other hero shooters available for free.
Deadpool and Wolverine had far more "woke" content in it than Concord does, but since DP&W made a massive pile of money they are going to just focus on the narrative that the reason why Concord failed was because of identity politics.
I have said it before you can't fix hate with more hate or racism with more racism etc etc ad nauseam. It's hard to get people to believe your goals of inclusivity when you're doing so in a divisive and exclusive manner.
Lots of this new age "wokeness" is just bigotry from the other end. I see the same thing in some of the "new age" feminists that keep on spouting about male toxicity when really they just sound like man hating misandrists.

I've not seen any specific examples - and given what I've seen in gaming to date, it would have to be pretty in your face to offend enough people for them to leave.
Didn't you hear? It has pronouns and overweight women as characters.
Are pronouns not considered to be woke?
How many features considered to be woke would a game need to have before you also came to that conclusion?
The dev team employs multiple openly woke activist personalities, who bragged about how they were going to incorporate their ideology into the game. Ignored complaints telling them this was a mistake.
Just because the truth is uncomfortable or offense to you personally, doesn't make it any less truthful.
Do you have sources you can provide for this? Been looking all around and haven't found anything but some lady named Smash JT and their "anonymous source" making these claims without anything to back it up.

Tik-tok videos, Youtube personalities, and all of it will be "a friend" heard or a "friend" said. Most of the time these stories get blown out of proportion because of one comment out of context.

Makes sense. I just figured since
Itsthatguy said: "Just because the truth is uncomfortable or offense to you personally, doesn't make it any less truthful."
and she also listed a bunch of stuff that allegedly happened. So I figured it would be best to find out where she heard all this from, and get a source for all that truth.
Here's the question: is it fun? While I enjoy a good narrative in my game and/or character development, all I really care about is if it is fun. I barely heard of this game before these posts and politics aside, no one is defending either side is really talking about gameplay aspects or fun gamemodes that would make it fun.
Frankly, entering any game I don't show any bias towards a character, setting, or plot based on a first impression. That being said, if no one is actually going to play the game, the only one who should care about the root cause that no one is playing is the publisher or dev team.
I'm not the type to care about the price of a game or how much money they put into it (I play any art style, genre, or plot if it looks appealing to me), but it seems to me if they cannot answer the basic question, "Why should I put down the game I'm playing for this?" then it was destined to fail. To fold this into the ongoing discussion: if their answer to the basic question I asked is primarily politics, then I'm not going to care about the game. I don't mind politics in my games (or art, if you will) no matter what they are pushing; but is it fun? Someone please answer me that.

People who have bought it and are playing it (going by reviews and accounting for time played) seem to like it. It looks fun but it also greatly reminds me of other games in the genre.
This day and age, especially with games trending above a $70 price point, I have to have more than it looks fun. A game, for me, really needs something to motivate me to try it first. A free trial, a demo, etc... If not that then it helps if the devs are ones I am familiar with or have a great record of games.
This game for me has several major things going against it. I had not heard of it until the failure of it. It requires a PSN account to play on Steam. It costs $40. And finally, I have many other games that are similar that I can play for free or I have a history in and can up and play them right now.
I wish it was as simple as "is it fun". It may be and they may right the ship and the game turn into something great. I hope they do. But ultimately there are other games I rather drop $40 on that I will play - remastered Age of Mythology, new Life is Strange game, Diablo 4 expansion, and thats just in the next two months.
It takes more than fun these days. At least for me.
