I the stream, Steven let us know the dragon raid has something they feel is unique and the players would enjoy. That mechanic is not present in this presentation. They want players to enjoy it first hand.

How has this progressed from the last dragon fight they showcased years ago?  Are there specific improvements?

I found both the dungeon fight and dragon fight fun and something I could enjoy. I liked the Bard role so much and the healing but the game has PvP everywhere from what I understand and I really only play PvP in battlegrounds or arenas. I don't enjoy it in any game where I have no choice but that is a 'me' problem and I think the game looks good so far. I hope it does well.

Jump about 30 min into the video and watch. I was very pleased. Remember this is a level 25 raid teaching the gamers what to expect from a Red Dragon raid. There is sets of skills shared by all Red Dragons, Blue Dragons etc. Elder dragons of each color will carry the theme and build on it with their own unique mechanic. This raid will be in A2 and I am looking forward to it.

Are there specific improvements?  I would have to go find the 2-3 year old video, watch it, and then watch the new one.  I'm hoping someone who follows this can actually point out what has improved over the years.

    They should shorten the name.

Ashes would work for it just fine.

The PvP thing; I just cannot take this title seriously.
Until I've seen a convincing fix for that problem - anything else they do in meaningless.

    What problem specifically?

Are they going to have an actual raid? Or a 'raid' boss rush like FF14? I'll at least throw them a positive and say they have created more of a mmorpgs than New World. Took New World 2 years post launch to add a raid boss and mounts (still no swimming animations because 'water hurts you' aka lazy).

Open world PvP in a game with significant vertical progression, looting, and resource gathering.

Don't worry, they'll start spouting those old buzzwords "emergent gameplay" and talking how "players will make their own content".

Sounds like a feature, not a bug.

It would be cool if they could get it working.

I've seen plenty of developers come along (with the requisite fanbois) with the same goal only to watch it all implode - I've seen enough of it to know all I have to do it wait.

Even with that said, I hope someone can crack this nut.
However, I don't think it is these guys that will do it.

Other then the destructible world. Ashes is making allot of what EQ Next was trying to do when it came to story and quests. The skill system in Ashes is allot of what EQ Next was planning and we know how that turned out. IS is at a critical state. Best guesses is Steven is paying between 20-50 million a year right now. With Staff at about 200 people getting paid between 100k to 200k a year (he has some real talent), taxes, rental costs, about 100-150k Alpha 2 testers and the servers they will need to keep up. If this game does not launch in the next 1-2 years it could be a bust. I hope it launches. Its looking like it on track but with this market, you never know.

Dude, the raid is edited as some content is cut out. Jump 30 min into the video and watch 15 min. Make up your own mind if you like or hate what you see.

Sorry. I didn't mean to ask such a difficult question in the thread.  Its not about if I like or dislike. I asked a question about what had progressed or improved from the last time it was shown a few years ago.  It's OK to skip the question if you can't answer.

Nothing to do with not wanting to answering question =-) It that its something worth watching. Want just a list here...

    1. AI is 100% improved. The dragon often seemed to react to the players and use things like AoE only on where the players were most gathered together. AI also made it look like it was not a scripted fight but that may not be the case. Will need to see this raid a few times to know. Really seemed like the dragon was reacting to the players.

    2. For a PvX raid, the difficulty was upped. I really dont know how anyone will survive if another raid rolled in.

    3. The graphics were awesome. The Dragons skills looked epic, a whole new level. The fire coming out the dragons mouth looked like raw fuel. Blue and raw and the it turned into flame. Lots of little details like that. When the dragon stomped the screen shacked making it seem more real. Even players walking around on fire. Lots of little touches like that.

    4. More mechanics and they did happen in some set order but the one that happens when at 50% heal on the dragon. Wont cover that but to say. Players really need to switch what they are doing right away if they want to win this fight.

    5. Sound effects were also best I have seen from Ashes.

    6. Large battle field and it was used. Movement skills was really needed to stay out of damage. The dragons skills covered allot of ground. Was fun watching the Bard use their speed songs to help people get out of Damage Cones and other large effects. The battle ranged all over the space of what looked like two football fields.

Players practical effects are still a mess but they said they are still being scaled. My words dont do the raid justice. I would really suggest you watch it.
