Anyone who cries about AI artwork can be left behind while those who embrace it flourish. The car removed the need for the horseless carriage and AI removes the need for redundant artists. Adapt or don't, the world will move on without you.

The orbit mechanic doesn't always impact a game -- sometimes it's minimal and sometimes you (belatedly) realize that your homeworld is about to get a direct line opened up to an enemy world... and you didn't have the defenses properly built up. Some of the shorter scenarios are ones where you'll never notice it but some of the longer ones you definitely need to be aware of it. Both how to prepare for incoming and how you could potentially use the new flight path as an opportunity.

FWIW, I actually preferred the EGS version of the game before the Advent/Steam release. Research was handled differently (planet based and research stations only improved the speed of research) and it seemed a little more interesting and yet tougher especially in the early part of a game. I was fairly surprised to see them ditch all that entirely and go back to the original method where you have to make both empire and warfare based stations to improve the tech. Sure, the transition for old SoSE vets will be much simpler but it doesn't feel like there's any real innovation in SoSE 2 now. Just a facelift with some under-the-hood improvements. Oh well, I still enjoy it but just not as much.

An amazing game. The only thing I don't fully like is the color palette. I know you can turn it off, but with it, the ships look like lego blocks or something. Idk, I preferred the grity look of Sins 1 by far.

The only thing that breaks the game is the one species that is capable of devouring planets, profiting from it, and allows for mass production of everything in the tech tree. You play as that species and automatic win. After all, if there are no planets to colonize you can't grow your empire.
