I have mixed feelings about the value of the pixels. All things in life are fleeting and you aren't going to keep anything that you did. So what value do they really have? Maybe the value is in how you approached your life and what you did, maybe *how* you made the journey is more important than the destination.
On the other hand, if I was an artist and spent a lot of time on a painting and then hung up the painting to admire it and show it to others, I would be unhappy if someone comes up and spraypaints over it and then runs off laughing. I'd be unhappy if I was a musician and spent time writing a song and was performing it, only to have some jerk blare out his radio and drown me out. Then smirk about it.
I'd be unhappy if I spent a long time building a base in the game and crafted it carefully to express the artistic feeling I had and then have someone come destroy it "for fun".

So I avoid games that allow that.
I don't really buy the whole "it's just pixels" argument. If it's "just pixels" and that implies there's no value to what they are then there's no value to playing the game. If it's just pixels then why partake at all?
The whole point is to have an experience and enjoy all the game has to offer.
However, I'm still of the mind that if a person doesn't want to lose anything then they shouldn't play a game where they can lose anything.
There is no forced "anything' as no one is forcing them to buy and play the game. Them playing a game like this and losing things in "on them."

Go knock over a vase in a museum and when you get arrested say "It's just clay".
You know that actually just happened right? Sort of.
There was this museum that had these ten thousand (or whatever) year old vases out for people to look at. Not behind glass. A little boy tried to peer into one of them and it fell over and shattered into pieces.
The museum didn't seem miffed they said "don't worry, we'll just put it back together and it will be out again for people to enjoy."
Their stance is that they want these things to be seen as plainly as possible without any barriers.
Now, if I was the father I would have been watching my child like a hawk, but that's another matter ...

I think those vases were found broken. Breaking again may not be a big deal.

You, the director of the museum who made that incredibly stupid choice has to issue a press release, in it you can say you got it wrong...that never happens. So it is never that bad, if it was people might question your appointment.
You could do many things, like having a lower age limit for the public, or having three sided cases or a vase holder so you can examine the vase but it is not going anywhere.
Poor decisions are poor decisions, those who make them will always find excuses.
I know this is a joke, and a 6/10 in my opinion. However, I do want to make clear I feel absolutely no need for revenge.
I'm trying to be consistent in my posting and with my attitude, to wit, I know investing in indie startups is risky and I took the risk. I got my money's worth out of the game, if only to see a couple of really great systems in play.

Actually, the special thing about the vase he broke was that it was not broken when found but also a large vase which was a rare find.

I've never seen you this worked up over anything.

I discovered it at the archaeological dig myself, they let bloody ten year olds in!

I have to agree if a museum lets a child (or any visitor) close enough to destroy it then probably someone at the museum needs to get let go.
I say that because of my respect for Scot's efforts in the field.

But just a junky old vase at days end right? Not like it was one of the urns Jesus turned water into wine right? Or the Holy Grail?

You're a harsher critic than the staff, surely they'd have given it a 7.... Better?
I gambled a few hundred on an indie team, had fun for a bit, but ultimately lost. That's gaming.
In hundreds of hours of play over 6 months I was murdered 3 times and lost next to nothing. In UO, murdered 3 times was known as 45 minutes of playtime on a friday night.
These two things contradict one another. I spent thousands on BDO and do not like the egregious p2w they kept adding so I stopped playing. I do not count that as a "loss" I put thousands of hours into the game and had a great time for a lot of it. If you want to throw away your "hundreds" of hours of fun because of one change that isn't even implemented, well that is your loss. I'll keep my fun memories.

The developers "wiped" the server. The loss of hundreds of hours of effort wasn't my choice.
I won't be giving them any more of my time because they've demonstrated they cannot be trusted with my time.

Honestly this is the parents fault. He is 4 years old why aren't you holding his hand and making sure he doesn't touch a damn thing.

It needs 20 more developers and 2 more years of development though.
That last time I played was with someone called candyman, and he introduced me to multiboxing.
