LotRO has started to ramp up its marketing for its upcoming expansion, Legacy of Morgoth, showing off one of the new zones coming later this year on a recent dev stream.

If it was open world it would be more interesting - cannot really do that with this story.
I wish something I loved was doing this well.
but they are going to upgrade the other servers at some point is my understanding. What at some point equals in a measurement of time is any ones guess. all that said the I do think SSG has been trying their best and the game has one of the best stories and is still fun. making getting all the expansions more palatable for new players I think is really the last thing they need to do. Right now you could drop 200 dollars getting all the expansions. I think thats a big barrier for anyone coming in off the street.
SSG devs are just stuborn to the bone and why they keep struggling along to keep the lights on.
It's the main reason this game fails to get any traction with new players.
These devs need to get it into their heads that LOTRO is a very old game, struggles with lag and other issues and that new players coming to the game aren't going to drop 200+ bucks on this game to catch up to the rest of the playerbase.
Now it's just a little too late, but they should have had a catch up Expansion bundle of around 50 bucks. That would have gain much better traction with new players and get them to stick around.
Pretty much every other MMO out that is still doing well, always included previous expansions in the latest expansion release, to attract new and returning players and let them catch up in an affordable way.
It has nothing to do with racing to the endgame. It's about having to still pay for every single expansion you level through.
WoW and FFXIV. The two most popular MMO's left at the moment, include all previous expansions when you buy the last one.
EverQuest 2 back in the day when I still played it, also included previous expansions when buying the latest expac.
They still gate 3 expansions behind the VIP subscription and make you pay for the last 2. Granted. It's an improvement if they finally made the first 5 expansions free. Wow, they finally did that. Nearly half way there then.... lol

It's the same there. If someone who never played ESO before buys Gold Road expansion now, it includes the base game plus all previous expansions (chapters).

I have bought every exp at launch paying 60-120 for one and being at Cap is different than seeing down the road you have to buy 8 individuals if you get my point.
like I said though I didn't know they changed it to the last two only so that's not bad much better than before.

Yeah seems they have finally changed it recently then.
Before, you had to buy each and every Expansion. Only the quest packs were included in the VIP subscription.
So it is an improvement for sure, as long as you are willing to subscribe to VIP.
It is really good at what it does - especially if you like raids.
For PvP they need to auto level players what enter the PvP zone so that a person can PvP right out of the box. Every time they'd add levels the PvP zone would die while the good guys leveled up.
