Trying it out at no cost is one thing.

They'd best not be counting on the same enthusiasm for those on PC that haven't already bought in to it and can't even safely rely on those that have to return.

Agreed and it's because people have been very vocal with feedback only to have it fall on corporate ears that think they know best. The original sandbox PvP vision they had us testing in alpha was still the best version of the game I've played. True open world conquest and territory control, open world player housing, guild and alliance system and npc mobs that were a challenge, let alone the bosses. All of that was scrapped for a PvE/contained PvP focused experience. What they have now is serviceable but I feel like they don't what they want to be at times.

Every time Goonsquad/SA/DS post salt on Star Citizen, I spend more money on it. Every time a mentally disturbed former backer or Elite CMDR toxic emo comments, I spend more money on it. Every time they refuse to answer why they spend so much time arguing about a game they don't even like, I spend more money on it. Want to watch the world burn because you can't have your way? You got whats coming to you.

by the time I found out, and downloaded it, it was sunday, which was fine, but it said there was a start button on the steam page, which there wasn't and when I launched the game it only did the original, so uninstalled again

From my experience the console crowd had a great experience and NW will be a welcome addition to the console and do fairly well.   All servers were cross-play and there were a lot of toxic steam players trying to bash the game all weekend but overall saw a lot of positivity.
I played a ton on PC but will most likely go xbox in October.   I'm fine giving better graphics and fps in exchange for a game not filled with toxic 3000 hr players.

I have almost 5k hours invested.  I played the Beta this weekend and it was nice seeing an active community again.  But the toxic no-lifers were flooding the chat so bad i had to turn it off.  I had a great time.  Did not experience any lag or desync, even in the races/wars i participated in.  That being said, i am still skeptical and guarded.  We could only lvl to 30.  I will be playing on release and am hoping for a great launch and smooth sailing, but my expectations are low. Fingers crossed.

You have more hours than me (I am around 1k) but I am curious what (other than the console launch) is there to draw in old players. I may be missing something and thats fine but I thought I would ask someone who had a lot of hours in-game. I also have very guarded expectations but so far, I see little to get me to play again on PC.

To find out, we were each given a budget of £5000 and told to meet at the service station in Didcot, just off the A34

Not a whole lot that is new, besides the starting zone, swimming, no more ammo and some other minor things. Game stability with no desync was a huge bonus. Graphics did not seem as "crisp", but i am a mechanics guy anyways. And again, we could only level to 30. Biggest draw was population. It yet remains to be seen if the journey will continue bug free post lvl 30 and how timely they will implement new content. There are some issues with target-lock that need to be sorted, or it just needs to go away. Hopefully they address this before release as a lot of pvp players consider this a deal breaker.

Target locking/auto-aiming was a huge downside of this attempt to revive NW. Obviously that's IMO, someone else may find it appealing. But I really don't want to even run a dungeon with someone utilizing that. But without a large returning or new PC population AND frequent new content updates, I don't foresee a return to NW in my future. And since I don't think AGS is going to be cranking out new content fast enough (or at all, really) that's moot.

Thanks, thats kinda how I was seeing it.... not a lot there. The no ammo thing is cool though. I am happily playing other games but I may dip my toes back in down the road if the population stays at a nice level.

Probably not the best approach but I also don't blame them but due to the attitudes and behaviors of a small vocal minority of "old players" they probably don't care much about pc right now and focusing on consoles.

I think NW would do pretty good on console and that will be where they focus their attention.

Some people did and for those it will be a pleasant revision. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as you, but whatever. If it is generally more appreciated than the former it will be better for players and New World overall.

The initial story had some revision along with some extra padding. Character generation forces you to select an archetype that starts with two specific weapons and a specific related bonus. As you can easily swap weapons once playing it is best to chose an archetype with the bonus you prefer most of those on offer.

I didn't get much further in as I found those changes annoying rather than enchanting and especially did not enjoy the comparably bloated early experience in comparison to the original, but such is a matter of taste.

There is at least swimming pretty much identical in function and animation to City of Heroes from back in the day, so they reached that milestone.

If you've already purchased New World and the expansion it is certainly worth giving it a go when it gets launched to see if suits your preference.

Well, the weekend WAS fun. But mostly because you had that "fresh MMO" feeling with hundreds of new people running around the newbie areas, which is always an exciting period even in rather shabby MMOs.

But the first few days to max level had been fun in NW for quite a while now. Adding swimming, a few visual customization options and a more "diverse" choice of NPCs won't improve the product by a lot, adding thousands of fresh console players might (if they really think this game including the expansion is work 70 bucks).

Sooner or later, though, returners and newcomers alike will hit the void of content that is endgame. The snoozefest that is the single OPR map. And the 1 hour queues of the completely abandoned 3vs3 mode.

I still wish this game would take off. Combat is great for MMO standards, the lore is actually pretty cool (with shades of The Secret World), the journey to level 65 is fun, the world map without loading screens and different biomes has so much potential, graphics are... acceptable.

But the overall amount of content and things to do are rather lacking and you can tell it was never meant to be the PvE theme park MMO they shoehorned it into last minute. Otherwise it would at least have all kinds of achievements and minor things to go for (looking at how GW2 does it). Or some persistent RvR like DAoC or ESO.

Alas, it's neither of these things. A bland, directionless and boring game once you breezed through the zones and to max level within a few days. A stale soup with forgettable season-pass-based "content" à là Destiny 2 or Diablo IV. And nothing of what they have said or done makes me believe that will change. Bummer.

I really feel this console push is to see if the game is sustainable in the long term. This should have been some sort of major content drop or update but instead its consoles. New World is fun and awesome and exciting when there is a healthy population. But when there is not, and everything is built around groups and population, its lack of content really is exposed. I wonder if the console drop is the last hurrah before the game enters maintenance mode. I want the game to be successful but I am concerned.

I had fun with bows in that game, but now they lock on target?
    Just say that isn't true.
    That makes my head hurt.

I think they're really just trying to get PC players to help inflate the world for console players.

I believe the hope is that combining the PC and console market will provide sufficient population. To that end they adjusted the game to what they thought would be better received on console while not greatly alienating their remaining PC fans. It probably has a better chance of success than the current game so there is at least that.

Sadly I don't recall. Hopefully if so there is an option to disable it for those that would rather manually aim.
