GOY? Think your getting ahead of yourself. I just watched a review by someone who got to play it early and from he showed it went from bargain bin game to skipping it for me.
I hope it does well for Bioware sake, but from what saw, the character models looks like they were ripped right out of Toy Story. At least that is the vibe I was getting.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
Not sure if shilling for the EA or just the usual regular clickbait... The article sure shows all the hallmarks of both. Based on the text that mostly reads like a PR blurb combined with absurd comedy, I would guess the former. The quality of this website has certainly been going down like a bag of rocks.
Well, it's a GenZ interpretation of Dragon Age. Not my cup of tea from what we have seen so far, but I wish everyone a lot of fun with it. I'll wait until it goes on sale before potentially giving it a try. My backlog is quite gigantic as it is.
"It wasn’t until four years ago in 2020 that BioWare’s vision for Veilguard really took shape."
OMG game was established during peak mass psychosis covid, BLM, J6 and DEIcalypse....
This game is gonna be so bad that I think it's gonna break records. It might even go all the way around. It will sink so low that it may even break the spectrum and fall into masterpiece range of bizarre world.
Uuuuuuh, yeaaaaaaaah, i mean...... i think if anything this DragonAge is going to be the most polarizing, which frankly, is pretty onbrand for Bioware these days.
Andy Farrant from Outsidexbox :"While I enjoyed it alot, i'm quite a casual Dragon Age fan but i feel like this might piss off longtime Dragon Age fans due to the stuff that they've changed."
"I feel like they've tried to make this the most accessible Dragon age ever."
This to me may very well be it's undoing, it's going to royally piss off longtime DA fans, because usually what happens when a game sets out to please as many people as humanly possible it often times ends up pleasing no one instead. ( Concord for example fell into that trap )
Fishing on Gilgamesh since 2013 Fishing on Bronzebeard since 2005 Fishing in RL since 1992 Born with a fishing rod in my hand in 1979
Nope, it will be as far away from GOTY as Concord is. Or The Acolyte from the season 2. It will be another DEI/woke flop. Maybe not completely DoA, but it will lose money. We don't need medieval fantasy games with top surgery scars as an option in character creator. We don't need robots with pronouns. And, of course, we don't like defeminized, even masculine, elven women like the one we could see in above video. We don't want it in video games.
But it is fun to watch all these studios and publishers losing money and jobs - they are incompetent, untalented propaganda commissars, like in USSR, and deserve any and every harsh market consequence of their awful DEI-promoting business decision.
Meanwhile, we have Wukong and Space Marines to play - games that are really fun, and worth of every euro spent.
Dragon Age Inquisition was supposed to be all time great too....Wasnt that impressed with it.
Yeah, i wasn't that marveled by Inquisition as well, and i played it at launch in 2014, and the Witcher 3 was still on it's way so i didn't have another recent rpg that was really mindblowing to compare it to except perhaps Skyrim..... i mean that right there could have been the reason, Skyrim was still kind of in a lot of peoples hearts and minds.
So a game like DA:I maybe just wasn't enough back then, it was pretty and i do have some good memories, but as soon as the Witcher 3 came out... forget it, DA:I was suddenly mediocre and bland to me.
Fishing on Gilgamesh since 2013 Fishing on Bronzebeard since 2005 Fishing in RL since 1992 Born with a fishing rod in my hand in 1979
On a more serious note. I can see that they have poured effort into the game. The will to make it a good game it's there and you can see it. They paid attention to detail, they seem to have added variety of characters/mechanics/skills, they have a nice engine and decent graphics.
You can see Bioware in there. The "real" Bioware. The ones before 2016. That is going to be solid for sure.
Thing is that all that effort that you can see has been hugely diverted to things that don't add anything for 9x% of the playerbase. And resources are finite so other areas have been neglected/dumbed down.
All the attention they paid, which they really paid, was to the wrong things.
All the variety is focused on the wrong areas.
Engine and graphics have been used to try to "look good" (in a cartoonish neutered schizofrenic colour palette) not to be good.
If all those efforts, will, labour and time were directed into what players want (not what "they" want them to want) this game might have been really, really good.
And "those" people will see this game and think, this game is really really good, and for them it is. It really is. Press and access media will probably see it that way too. At least a huge chunck of it.
And "they" will think: you are just hating on it because bigot. They won't be able to understand that we see the reality in hugely different ways.
What they think is brave for many of us is a boring trope at this point.
What they think is beautiful for many of us is neutered, oversaturated, bland.
What they think is poignant writing for many of us is todlers mind dialog.
They will think this game is a 9.5! For many of us it will be a 6.
And thats because there are objective rational things that define a good game for all (9x%). Many of those will be neglected in the persue of subjective needs that only a fraction recognize as components of a good game.
Hang on...Does this site get paid to write articles sometimes? This has to be a paid article right?
There is no way this game will be anywhere near game of the year, just watch some of the non-bias videos out there. This is not a Dragon Age game, not even close. Without the DA name it at this point it looks like it would go the way of Concord. I mean its sitting at # 49 on steam charts for presale and its a Dragon Age game, this is all you need to know about how people feel about it.
Dragon Age Inquisition was supposed to be all time great too....Wasnt that impressed with it.
There are a few videos out there that compare DA:I models, environments and other items to this so called DA game and its pretty insane how much better DA:I looks in almost every example, the character models especially.
After seeing the skill tree, I totally agree. Game's actually going to be GOATed, and a lot of trolls here are gonna be real mad when it sells gangbusters.

By all means please list them. Because, from what I see, this is just all subjective. Sure, I'm not thrilled with the art design but that doesn't mean that it won't be a good or great game.
Someone not liking the look of a game is important, don't get me wrong, but for every person who hates the way something looks you'll find others who LOVE the way that it looks.
This game look excellent. It's absolutely not my taste but it's clear they put a lot of work into the aesthetic.

Thanks for the good laugh, always a good start of a weekend! A big budget flagship game that - one month before its release - has managed to barely squeeze into the Steam's top 40 wishlisted games and that keeps breaking records on Youtube in negative reactions from literally hundreds of thousands of viewers becoming a game of the year?
Even Throne & Liberty is above Veilguard and that is the biggest Korean meh since Elyon. Veilguard did not even manage to beat a remake of a game from 2001. Yes, this is truly a GOTY material right here. Truly, DA fans will flock to this second coming in droves! 60k pre-orders, much wow!
I would understand influencers and shills making such claims in their thanks for whatever VIP whale watching trip EA gifted them, after all they need to repay their sponsors - but that's about it.
But you know what, Veilguard as a GOTY might just happen. With the unbelievable disconnect between the so-called "game journalists" and reality, I think there might be just enough clown associations and groups out there that will band together and give Veilguard all kinds of awards. Even if they have to be invented just for this game.
I don't think it is the game most DA fans wanted to see, nor will it be a run away success which is what it should have been. But it will still be a good game, I do think the doom and gloom is being over done.
What does that mean for the franchise? Well that's not good. DAI was a real success and they waited ages to follow on from that. Now we have overly cartoony graphics and it won't sell as well (though I am not going to put the lower sales just on that), which will just cement incorrectly in their minds, "we can't make them like we used to."
DA-Inquisition came out a decade ago 2014 which was a decent enough
game, however ME-Andromeda with cancelled DLC 2017 can be considered a
flop, Anthem 2019 they gave up trying to fix also a flop.
While DA-Veilguard may have some interesting ideas personally for Bioware now its much better to hold off on anything they release until its out for awhile thn decide to purchase or skip, where at one point i would just pre-order whatever they released.
The best thing they have released in the last decade was the Mass Effect Legendary edition.

This is a good video...
It is a good video and it's exactly what I was talking about. His issues are that the visual style as well as how interactive components are portrayed in the world, are not his style. Additionally, the change in combat isn't his preference.
Those are all subjective. There are people who prefer more stylized than not and there are people who prefer more action than not.
Essentially, if one is wedded to the original Dragon Age, its look and its combat then they are going to hate this game.
But someone who likes a wider range of styles or who prefers action combat might think this is amazing.
For a die hard Dragon Age fan this might not be all that but it does look like they are going for a wider audience. Sometimes that backfires but sometimes there's huge success.
As for me, I prefer the look of the first game and in general prefer more gritty/realistic games. However, I can adapt to the look. His comments about puzzles are spot on if one likes puzzles. But guess what? A LOT of people don't like puzzles or only want them to be minor blips in game play.
The first game I really liked, I enjoyed the second game though I had a lot of criticisms, I couldn't get through the 3rd game but I think I'll try to ignore most of the "mmo" elements and push through and hopefully I can get through the dull parts. I'll give this one a chance as well.

Its not just his style they are not Dragon Age. In my opinion they are clearly trying to push an agenda with this game and that is a big pass for me. At some point developers are going to learn there is no "modern audience" there are gamers and we just want games of old that don't cater to the "modern audience" and destroy IPs we grew up with. Sure, include some of your more 'modern audience' stuff but don't ruin the entire game in the process.
A gaming buddy posted another video about this game, never seen this youtuber before but I am guessing most on here would not appreciate the video lol. The video did have some good points but he doesn't hold back and is defiantly not politically correct.
