Looking for Racing Game Suggestions

cameltosiscameltosis Member LegendaryPosts: 3,832
Hi folks,

I've been playing Forza Motorsport recently and whilst I haven't really enjoyed it, it has given me a racing itch that needs scratching so im looking for suggestions.

My issues with Forza (both Horizons and Motorsport) is that they are good driving games, but pretty bad racing games. Horizons in particular are terrible racing games, but the driving (and collecting cars) experience were good. Forza Motorsport currently has pretty bad AI and there just aren't enough tracks, especially as half of what it does have are crappy American circuits.

I enjoy both arcade and sim racers, I have a wheel and pedals for the sims. However, I don't really keep up with the racing scene so I've no idea what's good or not. My go-to sim racer is Project Cars 2, I feel like the racing experience is amazing and it has an absolute ton of tracks. Only thing it lacks is any sort of ownership / upgrade / customisation loop for the cars (single player anyway, no idea about multiplayer).

Arcade racers, I enjoy quite a wide variety. Last one I really got stuck into was Wreckfest which was an absolute blast.

I'm not looking for anything multiplayer (unless it's massively multiplayer, which i don't think any are).

Something I'd really love would be a specific rallycross game, the rallycross series in Project Cars 2 is by far my favourite! A regular rally game might do the trick but I'd prefer to be racing against other cars, not the clock.

Let me know your suggestions!

On the arcade spectrum (and I mean... really arcade, but in a great way).  "Distance" is not to be missed. It's sci fi... with... you know... an aesthetic.

It's among my all-time favorites, of any genre. Now, somewhat dated, but with a map editor and active community it has near-infinite content, and the three dev-crafted campaigns are great.

You might consider Dirt Rally 2.0 for realistic rallycross, Grid 2019 for a mix of simulation and arcade, Assetto Corsa for realistic simulation, DiRT 5 for arcade-style off-road racing, and Need for Speed: Heat for customization in an arcade setting.

The newest F1 has been a lot of fun for me. I also enjoy Assetto Corsa both versions.

    Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

I've added "Distance" to my wishlist, it looks like a great arcade racer! I'm also old enough that a 2018 release date still seems "new" to me lol. It was basically yesterday.

Grid, DiRT and F1 are unfortunately no-gos. I've been boycotting Electronic Arts since 2013 and as they own Codemasters now, I can't buy their games without EA getting some of my money (this is the same reason why I won't get gamepass - microsoft want to give my money to EA). Which is a real shame, I used to work for Codemasters and really enjoyed their games in the past. They were also awesome when they ran LotRO's EU servers!

I hear ya I speak a lot more with my wallet than I use to. Had I not got f1 for free I wouldn't have got it for myself. After the last Battlefield train wreck I gave up on ea.

I have been playing Beach Buggy Racing Multiplayer APK for years and it is the best Kart-Racing game where you can experience driving your vehicles across beachy shores with alongwith other players. So, from my side Beach Buggy Racing is the best game for your choice.

Someone post a good race car setup. I was the driver's seat, wheel and shifter. Which one is worth the money for a PC racing game?

I have Forza Horizon 4 as one of my "bought but not played yet" games, I was attracted to it because it was not a "race track" racing game which I find a bit boring. So maybe I won't be driving across vast vistas of scenery as much as I thought?

The racing element only matters to me up to a point, I would guess less than it does to you. Some of the other guys have mentioned games which I decided against because there was too much "racing" not enough "driving", but EA does have some of the best of those, hope you find what you are looking for.

Distance is amazing! It allows for unique experiences and perspectives that you just can't get up close. Besides that, I really appreciate fanduel for its user-friendly platform and the exciting opportunities it offers for sports enthusiasts. It’s something completely different but adds a fun twist to following your favorite teams. Whether it’s placing bets or checking stats, it keeps me engaged

If you're looking for racing games that provide a better racing experience than Forza, consider Assetto Corsa for a sim experience with excellent physics and a wide selection of tracks, including mods that enhance content. Dirt Rally 2.0 offers a fantastic rally experience with competitive racing against other cars, while Wreckfest delivers fun arcade racing with a focus on destruction and vehicle customization. For a rallycross-focused title, check out DiRT 5, which combines arcade-style racing with a variety of events, including rallycross. Lastly, TrackMania Turbo can be a great choice for fun, time-trial style racing with a strong focus on creativity and track design.
