I strongly suspect it has more to do with the sieges.

I really wish they would have continued the Lineage world with this game. How many castles can one siege in throne and liberty?

Also, you still play lineage 2? It seems to have changed a lot, no?

You did not play Lineage or Lineage 2 if you think Throne is a successor to Lineage.

And this is coming from someone who has been playing Lineage since 1998.

It was renamed to Throne for a reason, and a very good reason: It's not Lineage.

There's not a single game system in Throne that is like Lineage. Throne is Throne.
Castle sieges? PVP?  Leveling?  P2W?  Bad storyline? Poor translations?  Significant gear grinding?

Even if they are implemented differently, or has additional features like weather, it's close enough. ;)

Game is ok. Nothing grounbreaking. Old school MMORPG with mid combat. Heavy on PVP and community driven end game. Graphics, music and sounds are great and has a lot of things to do, collect, farm, grind. Crafting is bad.

Thing is... if WoW TWW is a 8.5 this game in no way can be a 6. With those standars this game should be a 7.5 minimum. Thing is that this game might really be a 6 as WoW was a 7.

I hate it when you do this double standard reviews because it really does a diservice to the gamers.

At least this is a F2P that people can try on their own without great loss unlike those other games by "big publishers" were finding out that reviewers are shills costs the player 40 to 60$

Are they the same reviewers? Even if they are it doesn’t guarantee that one is going to appreciate things the same way.

Always ignore the review numbers and read what the reviews are saying. That’s more helpful.

All I know is im very much enjoying the game. The P2W arguement is moot atm because all the swipers and F2p'ers have the same opportunity right now to get the BiS gear. There is no mass BIS gear available on the AH, everyone is hoarding them for themselves and they are getting them from activities a f2p person would do, you might see like 1 or 2 bis in the AH and thats no joke.

For instance a F2P solo player can do their weeklies and you get a chance for epic loot kinda of like WoW vault system. You can target farm open world dungeon mobs to get epics and the mobs loot tables show their drops. You can do instance dungeons with the group finder usually an insta pop right now for epics or you can craft bis from the crafting mats you get from instanced dungeons. You can get coins from finding the purple books scattered everywhere throughout the world and buy blessed pouches that have a chance to give epic gear, or use the coins the game sends you for maintenence. I myself have gotten 2 epic pieces this way and a bunch of crafting mats.

Ppl complaining about p2w are ones that are not playing and just sour because the element is in the game. If you were playing you would realize the swipers are the suckers right now, because its so easy to gear. Heck max out blues are on par with purps because they are cheap to upgrade and purp mats take time to farm.

Dont let the P2W element stop you from playing this game, believe me you will be very much competetive as a F2P player.

I don't think they are the same reviewer I meant it as MMORPG. I want to believe that they have set some standarized reviewing proc&pol.

And yes, you read the review, but what is written is summarized on the number. Unless the review is just garbage. For example you keep writing that everything in the game sucks and end with a 9.

Number is important. Actually is the most important thing of the review IMO because it should be the destillation of all the nuances pros and cons in the most objective way you can as a reviewer to give information to the broader audience.

Doesnt help much if you review the game as a fan of bugs, fatal errors, and hazardous system malfuntions that is having a great time running a game seeing how it explodes the GPU or meltsdown the CPU after 30 minutes. I would be amused to try games like that and if some would make the PC or console set on fire I would give it a 10 but I think we will agree that we shouldnt publish a review for the game saying that it is a 10.

Luckly people no longer pay attention to reviews but back in the day the number that certain prestigous media gave to games made them sell or fail. It's important.

Hmmmm I’ve read my share of reviews and while the number represents the review it doesn’t tell the real story.

prefer grinding over doing so called quests. So if I am reviewing a grind game I might give it an honest 9 out of 10 (for example)

That 9 represents the totality of what I’ve written.

But if someone were to hate grind games and just see the number they would be in for a surprise. It’s always been that way.

Also, mmorpg.com doesn’t have a set standard for reviews other games Han, I believe, length. They ask the people they have to create a review and trust the person reviewing it.

I think I'm going to stick with single player RPGs or continue to wait (maybe forever) for a modern subscription based well done PVE focused MMO that originates out of the West. If that never happens, I'll be fine with single player games or those I can team up with a buddy for coop.

Been enjoying the game a lot although if they someday fix the movement and make improvements to the targeting the game will be so much better.

I'll be keeping tabs on how awful the p2w aspects will be in the coming months. I really don't like spending more than what I would pay for any other paid MMO a year (FFXIV, WoW, GW2). If things are super whale focused then I'm probably out, but I'll try to join a active PvP guild since that's probably my favorite aspect of the game, so we'll see.

    Are these really Cons?

Have we reached the point where a player in a MMORPGs should never have a reason to actually need a guild or a community is only important if a game has 'too much' PvP?

This is solo mentality up to the hilt, presumably a rubbish community is fine in a PvE MMO? As long as it is completely 'soloable' that is all that matters. Dire.

MMORPGs seem to be increasingly providing solo options for progression at end game so if it we haven't reached that point it may be in spitting distance.

To be honest: that THIS website gives a "9" to a singleplayer service ARPG DLC and a "6" to a solid MMORPG makes me wonder, how "MMORPG" this page still is. The "far out" ratings for totally "UBER" Peripherals made me wonder in the last month already and now I´'m really concerned, that the LAST STAND OF MMORPG NEWS is gonna go the way of all the other online Mags, which is "Good articles is, what gets money and clicks, not what is our purpose with that MMORPG in our name".

I mean, the story, voice acting and world building is absolutely a squandered opportunity. I think what makes it stick out like a sore thumb is that the world itself is beautiful, so to squander it by randomly spraypainting uninspired monsters all over it with 0 thought and then further harming the immersion with above problems is just borderline provocative.

Agreed. Although I think the problem is not that ToL got a too low score, but that the other content gets a too high score. Or that it's even there at all.

I only read this site for the indie mmo updates anyway, it's pretty much what is left of the mmo focus. Maybe they will learn that trying to cater to everyone(so your add revenues will increase) in the end means you cater to no one.

There is nothing really Lineage 2 in Throne and Liberty beside..I don't know, Sieges and the Mass PvP?

But Lineage 2 had something else, way better than Throne and Liberty : The Itemization, Crafting and Farming. I have a level 30 in Throne and Liberty and there was literally, zero and I mean zero happiness in looting an item. I was like "Ok, what's this? Oh .. bad!". And why? Because you craft your "Green Items" very early on and you upgrade and keep them up to level 50 ( max level ). That's..pathetic.

Looting, and getting gear and upgrading its, for me, what makes a good (MMO) game for me. I've stop playing Throne of Liberty for now and I enjoy it A LOT , Lineage 2 Interlude, a private server which just released with like .. 5k players? Its x25 but is amazing.

Oh well. Maybe I will give it another shot some day.

Hf to those who enjoy it.

I wouldn’t give it a nine though I’m still going through it. At the moment, while I’m enjoying the experience it feels like a 7 or 8 … mostly 7.

    meaning…

regardless of whether or not it gets a particular score from the reviewer, an assessment from the players is going to be all over the place.

Far Eastern games do score highly on all the bars you mentioned, but what about gameplay and cash shop, those are the two areas they traditionally fall down.

Anyway, you have to check out each game for potential regardless of studio or country, we are generalising with a huge anime sword brush here. :)

Was EverQuest’s game play any better than any Korean grinder? One’s mileage may vary on that.

I personally prefer a world over running tasks for npc characters.

As far as shops, there were a lot of western players buying items from eBay. I suspect there have been shops in most MMORPG’s but not necessarily built into the game.

Pretty fair score. This game is the very definition of mid for an mmo.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

Uncharted Waters Origin is a Korean-made game, but with heavy Japanese involvement, and it does a lot right.  They implemented some of the usual "pay to win" things (lots of paid gachas, paid costumes with skills attached, etc.), but made them pretty useless so that you can pay a lot of money, but don't get much advantage for them over free players.  The only notably bad thing stereotypical of Korean developers that the game has is scheduled maintenance times in the middle of US prime time.

I gather that weapons are basically the game's version of classes.  Can you readily level up with one type of weapon, then switch to something else at the cap?  Or do you have to level up different types of weapons separately?

What is the difficulty like in the leveling part of the game?  Are monsters basically just standing there waiting to die, as in modern WoW or a lot of other MMORPGs?  Or do they actually fight back and have a real chance at killing you in normal gameplay, without you having to take on artificial challenges?

I agree with the menus.. all these new games have way too many menus that take up the screen. It is confusing and cluttering. Get all that junk out of there.
