I love the 5e ruleset. Its a lot more balanced. Your spellcasters never get as overpowered as they are in 2e and 3e, but they start useful from the get go, they can cast spells without limit (Cantrips), and theres even pretty good multiclass mechanisms, even if personally I still prefer to play pure classes.

The thing I dont like so much about 5e though is that non-spellcasters got less interesting than in 3e. A pure fighter was excessively boring in 2e, but in 3e you could customize them in so many ways. In 5e that unfortunately got dialed back again.

I expect Cities: Skylines 2 will be my GOTY once it's released (and gotten some mods!).

    Well, CS2 has released.

It's not my GOTY (or, well, it probably is, but only because i haven't bought many games this year, so the bar isn't high).

I hope that in a year's time it'll be worthy of GOTY, but for now the performance is too bad and there are too many bugs. It doesn't really work in either regular mode or sandbox mode, which is impressive!

Not really tried enough yet to have a favorite.  It'll take me into the summer before I can have an honest idea.

I was between games and nothing on my must play list was coming out any time soon, so on a whim I picked up Ghost of Tsushima. Wow! That game is an absolute masterpiece. Can't say enough good about it. The highlight is the combat which is pretty challenging but also rewarding when you get it right. Visuals are gorgeous. The lore felt very respectful to Japanese mythology and Samurai history. It's clear someone loved making that game. I paid full price and don't regret it at all. If you can pick it up on sale at some point it's an absolute steal. Can't recommend it enough. Definitely top 10 maybe top 5 all time games for me.

Fractured Online for the best game as far as new concepts, worst game when it comes to developers running it into the ground.  :)

    And the kvetching continued....

Unicorn Overlord remains my top game of 2024, though Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth put in an admirable effort. Very likely, Metaphor Re Fantazio will be the only upcoming game that stands a chance of dethroning it.

I think it works as a general best games you've played recently. People know when you post.

I had tons of with Soulmask, survival with a dashing of souls was really fun. It was too bad the upkeep was so high, take a few days off and poof 100's of hours gone basically heh.

So far my personal game of the year 2024 is still Baldur's Gate 3.

I have my eyes on Larian Studios now and hope their SF title will be equally awesome.

Though I sort of doubt it ? Its not easy to make a rulesystem this complex on your own.
