I quit D4 when Season 1 sucked so bad (before they made it slightly less of a time sink, I guess?), but I have a couple of friends who continued to play. Now they, too, have sworn off the game in the wake of the way Blizzard handled the recent stat squish.

What I am saying is, I know literally no one who plays this game, and I have no idea who's buying these fancy, overpriced pixels.

And yet the game has made over a billion dollars. Don't confuse the fact that you and your friends don't like the game with the game being dead or empty. I promise you, it's quite active.

That's a lot of words you just tried to put into my mouth as a springboard to make your own points.

I can understand small games (that don't make much money) or games that are created with that in mind as a core feature of the game, doing "collabs" but I can't understand a Diablo game having WoW characters in it.

Everything in everything everywhere... Ever heard about lore? game thematic? inmersion? cohesion? rationality?

I hate games as a service and I hate even more games as a global service.

Why not add Protoss, Zergs and Spaces marines to Diablo 4 then... I want to fight Ba'al with my Battlecruiser Blizz!!

I hate this game era with my whole heart.
That’s all fine and dandy but do realize you’re the outlier here. Times have changed

Yeah I know. That doesn't mean I'm wrong tho.

Look, I love D4, but what they are doing with it(treating it as a simple money farm - not to mention how they treat their players) is disgusting. Revolting, really.

So, it's a very polarizing experience.

Paying to win what, exactly? Cosmetics? I guess if having cosmetics is winning to you then you have a point, but it doesn't affect your power level at all. Honestly most people seem to be running around in whatever came with the base price of the game. I'm sure someone buys them otherwise they wouldn't sell them. It's just not me.

I haven't bought any cosmetics from the store either, but check it from time to time as they occasionally put free things in there to claim.

I have yet to buy anything from the store I just now used 1 of my season pass tokens this season. I'm not sure if it's in the free track but the only thing I am even interested in is the treasure portal that looks cool

If you used a season pass it's not the free track. You don't need a pass for the free one.

Personally I found the changes to leveling and progression a positive thing. It's pretty much straight out of D3, FYI. You level to 60 then your Paragon unlocks. Why is this good?

    1. It eliminated 40 levels of pure BS grind

    2. It means drops you get at level 60, which is what you have to reach to even be eligible to start Torment difficulty, aren't just throw-away trash because you've got 40 more levels to go and that fancy unique that just dropped is only at level 60 meaning in 5-10 levels it's going to be obsolete.

    3. It now allows Paragon levels to cross between all your alts (in the same realm), so you only have to do that grind once.

Why people don't like that is beyond me, but people have opinions and they differ and that's OK.

And wrong again. Diablo 4 had 1 billion in revenue. That is not the same as making 1 billion dollars. I promise you, between lost customers, development costs for a game with major delays, and a marketing campaign that netted very little in after release sales, this was not a win.

Give me a break.  It's a win for them.

I am curious how many copies of VoH they've sold though.  That will be the best way to estimate the games future.

Well, you are not wrong. And, it doesn't change my statement.

Yes it does, as Blizzard has literally zero control over this and can't do a thing about it!
Just like pretty much any developer running an MMO or Multiplayer RPG today that allows player trading in game.

You can literally not stop black market trading other than turning off in game player trading completely.
In WoW, for example, it would mean they have to shut down the Auction House, game mail system and player to player trade. Hell, to completely stop this they would also need to make every single item in the game bind on drop/pickup. lol.
And then not even talking about selling complete accounts. How you going to stop that?

In other words, TDLR; Pretty much take the MMO / Multiplayer out of every game and just turn it into a single player game.   Get it now?

Bop is one way.  Bind on group.  Bop participation token that allow trading.  The most godly of items being bop.  Active banning.  Long quest/achievement items.  Ssf modes, group sf modes There is 1000 ways to combat rmt and blizzard only makes rmt more profitable than ever.  That is their business model.  They seek to draw in the rmt bots and kids that buy from them. The game has no competitive pure modes.  And it is trash for many other reasons, but the mtx crowd isn't helping.
