I suppose with 4.0 about to release it's killed interest for a lot of players in the current version.
Not exactly the last updates been adding a bunch of stuff that was originally part of 4.0, there's an update expected to move out of test server very soon, I'd say where most players are rn, that actually has some long awaited stuff like the new ship HUDs (see streamable link on top).
Honestly star citizen is the only thing in development that I am even excited about anymore. PoE 2 looks awesome but its PvP will be garbage so I am not really interested. As far as FPS and MMO, Star citizen is it. It also happens to be pushing the industry forward, at least they are trying new stuff out. Ashes of creation looks cool but its also taking a long time...
Wake me up when they have thoroughly tested how they will balance teamplay ships with solo ships.
Ok, I marked it to my calendar:
Remember, this is just the end of the testing phase, this is not the release date, just the "feature complete" date. They still need time to polish and monetize it.
I may have heard a rumor where each alpha requires users to repurchase all their ships for use in testing - and, that the initial purchase is considered a contract, so you have no choice and CIG is foreclosing on people's homes.
Citizencon is coming up. Its their way of suggesting they are making great progress. Still a buggy mess.
With the amount of devs and financial resources this company has they should have built a colony on Mars by now.
I saw an apocryphal stat that the Indian Moon Landing program took less money and less time than Star Citizen to date. It may not be true, but, sadly, it's believable.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

It is true. 74 M$.
The Indian team are great, highly motivated people.

Now, if they can reliably get 100 players on a shard, that's probably enough for some serious gaming. QoL of the experience will be vastly important.

Hey, they put it up on the whiteboard for brainstorming, last week! What do you want? Instant results?

So don't get too excited.

And it's Daymar not Mars.
Mars colonies are exclusive for Microsoft and Sony. One side each.
