I watched a little bit of a stream....I must say that is the most impressive looking water I have seen in a game.....As for the rest of the game?...The streamer just pretty much ran around...Never saw him fight anything or anyone.....Hard to draw much of a conclusion from what he presented.
Better than Sea of Thieves?
I dont think they will get the navel content at launch. Took 4 years to make SoT. From what I have seen Ashes has done very little with the Navel content, unless they planing on a shadow drop. We barely have any concept art for it.
Yeah I was talking strictly graphics wise, as for gameplay I'm sure that they will eventually add naval warfare and trading ala Archeage since it's one of Steve's big inspiration but that's perfectly acceptable to be left for a later patch/update post "release".
P. S. I have not been ganked in two days of gaming lol

I hate this stupid murder hobo parade - how the hell can the developers release this crap and call it a game when it is little more than an execution simulation for people who live in their parents' basement? I hate this game, the developers, and everyone on this forum."
It will take a long time before he turns on the game even a little bit, no matter how bad it gets. Even then it wont be full hate, just sorta MEH.
I remember Nanfoodle a few years ago saying how great Pantheon was, how much progress the devs were making ... this went on for a few years. UNTIL people started getting in the game and seeing for themselves how much utter trash the game was.
Then no surprise he vanishes from the forums and starts being a fanboi for another game in early Alpha.
We had a few people doing this for New World, Star Citizen, Crowfall, COE always some hype machine going on.
Then down the road after the full concensus of people have negatived the game to oblivion, they say its "just ok" ... Some dumb reason why it went downhill. After they have been hyping 10/10 stars for years.

The game is in a better state than I expected. There are plenty of issues like mobs moving janky/lagging. Quests being kinda vague with where to go is a bit annoying. The talents need a lot of work and so does the UI which I know is placeholder but still. Etc
Its a decent enough foundation for an alpha. Now is where we see how quickly and how well they can respond to the issues.
Its crazy how many people are playing considering this is a proper alpha testing state. (which is what they warned people it would be) Only the truly dedicated will stick around to bug report and test. The population will quickly die down I think until later alpha phases.

This is a fan site for video games.
Most sites with forums end up being fan sites.
Ideally a good forum should focus on real information and a shared interest in getting to the truth.
But often people push agendas, sensationalize, exaggerate or promote things , and it ends up watering down the conversation and distracting from the real discussion.
People come to visit these sites to learn about thier interests, but have to sift through all the noise from overly biased users flooding the forum with sales pitches or exaggerated nonsense while conveniently ignoring the facts.
Every site about a specific topic shoudl foster honest discussions, whether its about medicine, automobiles, sciences, archealogy or any other hobby.
Not sure how used car salesman peddling their product to everyone really helps add anything of value to the discussion.
So they are free to spout their BS, but I can call them out on it too.

I watched 2 streams. The first looked a bit crowded in the start area but later on didn’t see another player outside their group for like an hour of grinding. The second stream passed a few people in the wilderness.
I wonder how many players they had on each server

Idk I am on the server the streamers played on (lyneth) so that may have made a bigger difference than I thought but its just absolutely packed everywhere I go.

Just watched a gank attempt. Group of 6 tried to gank the group I was watching. They didn't realize this group had 8 players. They also were mostly higher level (8,9) while the attackers were mostly 5-6 with a 10.
They killed/dispersed the attackers. Pretty decent TTK.
Now they are cocky though. They just went to another group pulling mobs nearby... doing PvE for a few minutes... and then instantly flagged and killed the other group during a pull.
The PvE crowd will insta-rage.
Some weird bugs though. Different people in the group saw the other players as having different flags. One guy would see the target as flagged for PvP... another would see the same target as not flagged. Then they also had a bug where some other players were not able to be targeted even though they were fighting some party members.
Not a big deal. I'm sure it will be addressed... but it was definitely confusing.
I kind of enjoyed the PvP from what I saw, but I'm telling you point blank that PvE players will absolutely lose their shit if a group can just insta-flag and kill them mid pull.

Here you go since you are being super weird about it. lol. I couldn't whisper you on Twitch since you have it blocked. Just logged in to take a random screenshot. Its been pretty hard to even do anything with how many people are around the starting area. Everything is dead and more and more people keep showing up.
Idk why you are implying I'm lying about this. I have no incentive to do so.

I'm just saying.. the live stream we BOTH are watching for the last hour or more... is empty. He passed what.. 2 or 3 people in an hour? I'm not sure what you are trying to show in that screenshot? Thats 1 group of players. Literally a group is 8 players.... when I saw your link I thought I was going to see you looking down at a hundred players or seomthing... not... 8.
I understand maybe the streamer server at the specific zone in area was crowded but when you said you were amazed at how many people were playing (the first day this fully opened) I thought you might have seen some numbers.

It blows my mind you care enough about this to keep arguing about it. I am sure you know the view distance for other players is turned down to like a 20 ft diameter for some reason. Getting 11 players in frame was the best I could do but its just a constant stream of players going in and out of the area. I go up that stairs there is like 10 people killing everything. I go out to the right and there is people at every camp killing everything. Everywhere I go everything is camped. Hence why I logged off cause I cant be bothered fighting for mobs in an early alpha. I can only go off my experience. Burke was out gathering in the wilderness in the middle of no where probably on another server.
Again, I have no reason to lie so obviously other areas/servers are less crowded. Kinda crazy how that works.
I'm not gonna spend the time to go around and take a video over this so you can believe that I'm lying all you want.
I'm not arguing. I'm not saying you are lying. I stated what I saw. I stated what you and I BOTH saw. Thats not arguing. One would expect the initial spawn point of any game to be crowded on opening day.
That was the third stream I've watched... Once you step out of the spawn node it looks like what we just watched on all of them. Pretty empty and open.
I'm sure that on Nov 8th the servers will actually be slammed. We will see what that does for the lag, warping, disconnects, etc...
They have a long time to fix this before release. But my experience is that this kind of performance issue is very hard to resolve, and for a game that is going to highlight hundreds of players on multiple sides fighting for control of a node, they really, really need to get this under control. Otherwise it will end up like Shadowbane and Darkfall where the lag was a 5 ton anchor holding down the games.
I think the other stuff is fixable with enough time. They can add content. They can fill out the empty world. They can add the missing classes. They can fix things like having to find static animal nodes that stand there like rocks in order to skin them because you cannot skin kills.
But the lag thing, while not unexpected... is going to be a real challenge to overcome. That and the PvPing of PvE players are going to be the most critical items they need to solve to have a chance.

I've been playing with my wife all morning. I'm playing a Bard she's playing a Mage. It's really nice when you go to a camp spawn where there are basically Elite mobs. The outside of the area the mobs are a little bit easier good for two or three people to play together. And as people show up you organically make teams. And then move in deeper together. In this area it is very well designed. And I have to say I have played many Bard classes in many games and by far so far this is my favorite.

What makes this Bard better?
Can they heal? Or would that require a specialization to add Cleric at higher levels?

Instead of weaving five songs six songs like I used to do in Everquest. Your songs are just passives that just keep on playing. Switching between songs only takes a second or so. So as I see the team needs Mana I can switch songs. If healing is falling behind I switch to my Healing Song. But it takes very little Focus to do that. So I get to participate in combat and have fun doing so. While I support the group and what they need.
And in combat I can decide to do damage or I can do things like CC snare all sorts of other things. So while I am buffing the team and keeping them going. It takes very little of my concentration to do so. And I get to focus on the battlefield for the most part. I've never felt so useful as a bard.
At my level I can heal. But the second we get a hard Elite or a boss I really need to Clerk. But trash and Elite trash I can keep a team alive. And I'm absolutely essential to keep Mana topped up on the team. All classes use Mana as all skills drive from a magic base fighters to casters to archers. I do get some other healing abilities that come with shielding later. So who knows maybe I can heal a team after all. And that doesn't take into account of what happens if I become a bard/cleric or a bard/bard
Question. When I look at the roadmap they talk about Phase 1, 2 and 3 for Alpha 2. With dates of Oct 25th, Dec 20 and May 1 respectively
Is it still planned to only be Fri-Sunday testing until Dec 20? And then 5 day availability until May? And then a minimum of 1 year 24/7 access (excluding downtime) from May on to release?

Thanks. I haven't seen Bard's healing. The main stream I was watching had 2 clerics and they eventually just had one of those DPS because 1 Cleric was OK healing the 8 man team.
I usually slot into the healer role but I also like to be able to do some other things. Passive Bard healing and regen sounds good.

FYI- Seems like the game and website have been brought down due to a DDOS attack. They are claiming they are getting hit with 50 million requests a minute (vs 9k players with access). Well at least that is what the streamer I'm watching claims to be relaying from the company.

Been playing on Resna; so that horns of betrayal public event that Ponzini posted is actually a decent gauge of the player population when you're not inside of the event; because the event on the map has a player counter of people playing in that area. That particular event is based in Lionhold; the starter area and encompasses both the actual starter spawn and the newb village itself. On average, that quest has had a pop of 150-250. So around that number of people who are sitting at the spawn gate or sitting in the newb town.
My group was farming the churches of the seven stars yesterday evening which is one of the more populated leveling areas. At the time we were there, there was four groups of eight, our group being one of them. One of those other groups was a zerg guild's group, and the other two were randoms that slapped together.
Now about what you said about the areas being empty...you're right. You can go across the map and potentially nobody; and that's because the test consists of alpha 1 and new alpha 2 players. Those alpha 1 players...they gone. The average streamer is not going to see them because those alpha 1 guilds have a map of the best leveling spots and have disappeared towards them, and they fiercely defend those leveling spots. (My group had killed two groups in the process of grinding. Another group I was with; were pve players. They went to another guild's farming spot and wouldn't leave. They died.)
On terms of actually loading player characters; you'll never actually see all of the people at once in the location because the game has player collision. So in areas where there's extreme numbers of players such as the lionhold starting area; it doesn't render everyone just so players can actually get out of spawn since a lot of people literally logged in and then just afked.
Lastly to the testing dates, yes. People asked earlier in discord if the current test would be extended because of the queue problems on day 1 and the ddosing attack happening today. Sharif's response was "I am afraid not, we need that time to service the issues we are collecting data on from the weekends testing. While we do deploy critical fixes throughout the weekend, we use the week to hit severe issues." So they're maintaining a strict schedule on their server uptimes and their focus; which I'd say is respectable.
(as to the attack, Sharif posted an image of their firewall events at 2:11 PM EST. As of then, it was up to 242.26 million events.)
(I'm trying to tack on your questions all in one post that weren't answered from the perspective of someone in game.)

Thats the kind of outside the box thinking that makes things interesting.

I usually slot into the healer role but I also like to be able to do some other things. Passive Bard healing and regen sounds good.
