People are absolutely absurd when it comes to BioWare games. If it's not a 10,000/10 it's a catastrophic failure and the end of BioWare's existence while at the same time if it's not given an automatic 0.1/10, it's a biased, inaccurate, copium review. If it's not the greatest game ever made somehow, then it's not worth their time, but they will go play MMO's of objectively questionable quality and pretend they're the greatest games ever made.
Yeah well turn based combat can go die in a fire as far as I'm concerned and that includes BG3. Not everyone is that enamored with it and are open to different takes on the RPG genre.

People are not believing the score because of what has already been explained: the reviewers were hand picked, there's enough information out there about the game to know that it's not a 8.8/10 (almost masterpiece?? hard to believe), destroyed lore and cringeworthy dialogue scenes included, and there's a long historic record of critic reviews not being representative of the actual rating that consumers give a game later. Moreover, people are burnt about BioWare's latest flops, including abandoning Anthem after they said that they were going to fix it (I avoided that bullet, luckily), so of course no one is trusting their competence.
I can guarantee you that this is not "just" because it's BioWare. Wait until AC: Shadows gets its critic reviews next year, for example, and you'll see the exact same thing happening (high critic scores), including users calling them BS.

Sorry but it honestly sounds more like the classic bandwagon haters BioWare has had for years regardless of their successes or failures in combination with aging gamers who can't stand to watch legacy franchises evolve beyond their limited scope of what makes a good game or acceptable inclusion more than "destroyed lore" (what?), and "cringeworthy dialogue scenes" (we've only seen a hand full of dialogue scenes publicly and none of them have been very cringe worthy so far which is not to say none of it will be but there have been plenty of games that have that and have still been incredibly good games so that's not exactly the defining factor for what makes a good game for many people.
If it's not better than Baldur's Gate 3, it's not worth my time, and yes, those are where my expectations are at- so my apologies to all future RPGs that have yet to be created.
I wish my expectations were that low! I can't abide anything using the super hero min-maxing mechanics of any of WotC's editions.
Still recon it will get a 75 to 80 average score at MC, but we shall see.
If you're talking user score takes a long while to average out to anything approaching valid. Ultimately, when you've got a site that does not require proof of purchase, it's going to be highly susceptible to both review bombs and fake positive reviews. And that goes double for anything controversial.
I am talking critic scores, the user scores are just too susceptible to manipulation. But so are the critic scores to a lesser extent, though that nearly always goes one way to overly high scores. That is why for me the MC critic score is usually inflated, you do get some "genres" that get low scores because of the sort of game they are. As we have an action RPG here I will mention Elex, old school RPG's get marked down because they are old school.
Bearing all that in mind, the critic average is still the best litmus test we have for a game. You just have to realise you need to look into a game, you can't make your mind up just on the basis of a score.
One thing about what everybody is saying, I thought the first reviewers were always handpicked? We are just leaving the hype phase, but still in it, what do people expect?

I prefer not to really voice my first opinion because that is under the influence of emotions etc. I prefer to give my third+ opinion when I can state with certainty what's what.
Hence, I am extra mindful of WHEN a review was made. I don't need or want an emotional response(not in this matter, anyhow), but some clear facts.

That is why I haven't read reviews in ages. It's pointless. It's either inheritably biased or paid for, as these reviewers are scared they won't get advanced review copies anymore if they post a bad review.
So instead, I have a select few youtubers I like and just watch some videos of a game I am interested in and see if it tickles my fancy and worth my money.
Cohh for example one of my favorites, as he doesn't shy away from being critical.
Some quick examples. He was very critical of BG3 at launch in how everything beyond Act 1 was pretty much a buggy unfinished mess. And recently he was very critical of Diablo 4's expansion about how poor and incoherent the writing in the new campaign is.

Didn’t he hype Pantheon like crazy?

Almost as if different people have different opinions.
Most reviews are positive. I love seeing all the people who pre-hated seething over this LMAO.
Most critics reviewed Ghostbusters (2016) positive too. And they were/are very wrong. Box office spoke volumes for that one and if I was a betting man I'd say the sales will speak volumes for this game, just like Ghostbusters.

No idea? Did he? Haven't seen those videos. Maybe way back in the beginning? When everyone and their grandmother was hyped lol.
But he is a hardcore DnD fan and was extremely hyped for BG3, like everyone else. So you could really see the frustration and disappointment in his videos, when he got beyond Act 1. So he put out a video recommending people to wait a while, until the most glaring issues were fixed and Act 3 properly finished.
Another favorite youtuber is TheRadBrad. He is the eternal optimist. So if you see any frustration and disappointment in his videos, then you know the game is just really bad and worth avoiding lol.
Uh oh. All the doomsayers aren't going to like that it got a positive review. I don't think I will pick it up at launch, but I may get it after launch when I can afford it. I am interested in seeing some gameplay footage.
Yeah, when you buy the judges, or critics, it's easy to get an "overwhelming" positive reaction...
Still recon it will get a 75 to 80 average score at MC, but we shall see.
I mean let's say for the sake of argument that it averages out to a 70. If you tell me that none of your favorite games are scored 7/10, you're either lying, haven't thought about it, or haven't played that many games. Everyone has at least one 7 that hits just right.
That Fextralife video above is pretty eye opening.
There is a lot about this title that just seems.... weird.
If a die hard Bioware fan channel like Fextralife gets snubbed on pre-release code, then EA has definitely something to hide.
It pretty much confirms about what is going on, yet again.
If there is any irony and karma in all this is, that EA is just shooting themselves in the foot yet again, by cherry picking reviewers they know will be 100% positive.
So now they have channels like Fextralife discussing EA cherry picking reviewers and as such already causing a backlash online before the game's release.
Also, they failed in their cherry picking scheme, as Skill-Up managed to get a review code and they are literally torching the game! Just this sentence says it all and current state of writing in these studios: "Every interaction sounds like HR is in the room"
Hilarious! EA just keeps on proving why they are the worst in the Industry. Time and again.
"Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Taash will finally face their (they/them) fears and come out as non-binary, confronting their family in a powerful and diverse, fourth-wall-breaking moment that brought the IGN reviewer to tears." This will be most of the game. Be sure you like this before buying.
Seem you haven't learned what optional customization means. Is this your 1st videogame? I would recommend trying something that is free as you sound like a child.
right, so you are one of the carefully selected people who got a review code
You say it like there is not people who is being plain homophobic and racist wanting to give the game a 0/10 because you can choose the optional OPTION to be non binary, have a muscular body or romance any npc.
I prefered the old style and qunari look. I understand gameplay wise reviews but just like what happened with Alois in HZD some players would go for the kill just because how a character looks (alois had some facial hair like every female does) in a trailer rather than actually playing the game.
So it makes sence wanting someone that actually care about giving a try to the game rahter than some hateful player that is just angry towards actual times.

Yeah, that shit is wild. "Look at this freak I made in character creation! This game is terrible!"
Meanwhile, actual RPG fans know that people have intentionally made Shreks, Handsome Squidwards, and countless other hilarious eyesores in every RPG character creator ever.

If Kotaku is giving it a glowing review..... it's considered a red flag today for me.
I will await some gameplay videos from my favorite youtubers.
