I played the first versions of this the game is irrecognizeable now, and not even better, it's weird.

The only player numbers we have are from Steam where it looks like a flop.  But it's biggest in china and has mobile clients everywhere that aren't counted.

So I enjoy this game until I unlock the Tier (Timemark) 8 content.  I just get bored grinding for currency(same with POE).

This season they slowed down the progression rate in order to try to keep their chinese players playing longer.  They tend to finish all of the content much faster than those in thee US and EU.

They did make all but the newest hero free to play this season which is good.  but they still have some P2W gacha pets.  But you can do everything F2P, just without the bonus loot drops.

It's still the most fun I've had with an ARPG this year.  And I may just be losing interest in ARPG end games anyway.

You may be thinking of Torchlight III which did flop. Torchlight Infinite came out shorty after that and is still chugging along.

The game among us is still active, especially it is increasingly innovative and very fun to play.

Yeah TL3 was a massive flop.  I still don't understand how that studio were rewarded by being bought by Zynga.
