It's like players want to PvP or something. :)
Nah @Slapshot1188 just wanted to cook me. Probably some leftover forum disagreement. :) Funny part is as I spawned in, all I see is light and then I realize I am on fire. I see someone extending a beam of fire at me and I was wondering if A - this is normal and expected; B - its a bug; c - something is killing me and they are trying to help me; d - they are killing me. Once I died and respawned I ran away. I give the hilarity and confusion a 9/10.
Yeah I really think the key with this game will be trying to find as many of the crazy things players will do with the tools given. And then being nimble enough to close the inevitable gaps they will find.  Not just TTP but unique ways to kill folks and destroy.  Terraforming is great, but man, just wait until I melt some ice that starts a landslide down the mountain :)  Or build a small pen filled with rapidly reproducing space bunnies...   Dig a hole to the bottom on the game world (Is there lava down there?) and then terraform a very thin and weak cover over it....

Not that I have given ANY of this any thought...

I 100% think that they need some really dedicated testers that will think outside the box and find loopholes and glitches, AND report them as opposed to keeping them secret until launch for some kind of advantage.  Folks that aren't going to grief but also aren't afraid to color outside the lines and see what happens.

By the way... even in this super early testing, they have dancing in as a way of healing stamina damage.  You watch a dancer and you remove the stamina damage, and THEY get XP for it.

We did warn all the early testers that we have not put in any of the mechanisms for PvP protection for environmental stuff yet.

I think @Raph is getting scared by all the PvP talk.

So to alleviate that:  Folks the test was NOT a PvP game.  You could not shoot other players.  It was just a stress test that had some mobs (eventually removed), exploration, various terrains, etc...

It was fun to find a way to indirectly use other, non-weapon tools to still damage other players.  After a few minutes of fun, everyone went about testing the rest of the stuff.

That said, now that I am typing this I am wondering if I can use AI to find even BETTER ways to kill Wargfoot when he gets in game....

Pretty cool stuff having members testing at this early stage of development and tossing it up on the forums for us all to see.

Also folks being allowed to post screenshots and describe whats going on instead of some Iron curtain type secrecy is a welcome change.

We think what we have is cool enough that we have nothing to be ashamed about. People mostly understand what "pre-alpha" means, and in fact we have gotten feedback that we are in some ways in better shape than other games claiming alpha.

And in terms of competition, frankly, it would take YEARS for someone to clone our feature set.

So given that, why not be open? Player feedback only makes the game better.

So hype for something this new and completely open on the development. This kind of interaction just doesn't seem to exist anywhere else.

Can't wait to be in on the testing as it expands!

So personal pet peeve I have with my QA department is they get so focused on testing weird, off the wall, corner cases they forget to test the actual happy path functionality of the app,so you get day one bugs discovered by your users just trying to do their job. Pro tip: test the way the game is actually supposed to work FIRST. THEN if that all passed you can start your tests of trying to trade negative amounts of currency to someone to see if they end up paying you instead or seeing if you can squeeze between the walls to get around the door. Thanks!

The Inventory screen.  And a Crafting Station (It didn't do anything for me but maybe I need to level a skill to use it).

Personal issue - a lot of recent games have this UI clutter including the  inventory taking up the full screen (ie Throne and Liberty, Wayfinder, etc). Hopefully they don’t have too much UI clutter and tabs that get frustrating.

Current extent of character creation  ( hey at least there are a few races!):

Skwatchi???  LOL!!!  There was a guy in my unit that we nicknamed Squatchy, which was short for Sasquatch, because of how hairy he was.  Dude would wear the army green V neck shirt and have hair coming out of it that almost touched his face.

Another test today.  Not sure I will get in as it seems they are inviting more folks and only letting us login in small batches to control and direct the test.  But if anyone has a request to take a look at just post and I’ll try (or someone else can)

    Sorry but college football today!

You haven’t seen dancing until you’ve seen a Skwatchi shaking it.

That's a very bold approach, and makes complete sense with the points you laid out.

Generally around here people wouldn't (or couldn't) even mention they were involved in testing newer games, let alone being able to post screenshots and descriptions. Very cool approach here.
