.... the fuck, the GOTY nominees feel like a slap in face, not all of them, some of them make sense, but holy hell what is a expansion to a former GOTY entry even doing there??
Silent Hill 2 remake was robbed, obviously, it deserves to be in the GOTY category at the very least.
Also HOW are these 2 in the GOTY category??? Really?? those two games?? really???

Let's face it, whatever anyone thinks about the entries good or bad, we all know that last years show communicated to the world where this ceremonies priorities really are, and we should just wait for DICE instead.
The stunts they pulled last year pressuring speakers to hurry it along, and the increased number of consumerist ad-pushing just made the whole thing feel like the gross piece of shit show it really was all along.

makes sense, balatro has overwhelmingly positive reviews it's very impressive that a game made by one man got nominated
Absolute joke, they have those two as GotY contenders? What is the gaming industry coming to?
The GotY should not be about games from all categories having an equal chance at GotY. Indie games that are not up to the production qualities of AAA should not be there. That is why you have separate categories, best of indie etc. So that means AAA has bought an advantage, some of you may think that's "unfair". I would just be looking at the graphics, content and gameplay and say that is quite fair.

It would be very funny if Balatro wins. But honestly, I would prefer that to win over an expansion for an existing game like Elden Ring. At least it’s a new game concept.
I want Metaphor to win. It deserves it, and this is the best year for my favorite genre to win.
Also, Unicorn Overlord not getting nominated for best Art Direction is a massive snub. It's the artistically best looking game of the year other than *maybe* Metaphor. Hopefully it at least wins its Best Strategy category.
I feel like I read more about games, these days, then actually have time to play them. So, Balatro is the only one on the GOTY list that I've played and, even then... GOTY? It was a fun-ish, cheap indie game that wasn't worth keeping installed past a few days of messing around.
Like it was said earlier in this thread, I must just be out of touch. /shrug
I noticed that Palworld isn't on this list despite being a hit, I guess there's too much controversy around it or they are mainly nominating AAA corporate studios and their games and not indie studios and games.
Eh my guess is they don't want to nominate a game with pending litigation in case that all goes south and they end up awarding GOTY to a game that got shut down in the courts. Not that I think Palworld is getting shut down, just that's why I think it's not on the list.
Come on guys, you may not know many of the nominated games for the game of the year but certainly you know your favourite E-Sports Athlete of the year?

Yes, the idea that an expansion could win is just as daft as a low budget indie winning in my eyes.
I think I'm more offended by the DLC thing than the indie thing. An indie game being nominated at least is a testament to the breadth of the industry.
That said, TGA has always been sort of a marketing ploy in an industry that's 99% about hype, so I don't actually care enough for even that other opinion to be strong. Like, it's run by the Dorito Pope.

I agree an indie game should be nominated if it offers exceptional game play and/or art design.
An expansion should be under “dlc/expansions “ not game of the year.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Not one single mention of Dragon Age. That's about the only thing they got right.
I thought it got nominated for "Accessibility" or something. Probably because of the top surgery scar option in the character creator rofl.
Accessibility isn't really a video game category, it's a category for buildings and the handicapped. It's a created category for consultant groups can maybe get a notice. No real video game categories were harmed with the making of Veilguard.

Right there with you!
Not only do I not recognise the majority of the games in each award, having now looked into them I still have no interest in playing any of them!
The only category that I felt I was even vaguely motivated to vote in was "best adaptation", and only because the Fallout show was pretty damn great.
The stunts they pulled last year pressuring speakers to hurry it along, and the increased number of consumerist ad-pushing just made the whole thing feel like the gross piece of shit show it really was all along.
