This is just NCsoft being NCsoft at this point; if they had it their way, they'd make it so no other game development studios were allowed to create anything- it's clear that in this specific market NCsoft just doesn't want to have to deal with competition.

I do. It doesn't change that they canceled it. I donate to keep it going but every month it seems to take longer to get the minimum to keep it going.

The thing is that game companies don’t want to close their games. At all.

They want them to be successful.

They close them because the cost of keeping them open doesn’t financially make sense.

And As NC Soft is a publicly traded company they have to make games and make money for their investors.

They aren’t going to keep games open when that money might be used for more lucrative projects.

Yes but when you take on an acquisition that services customers you should have considered if it was sustainable otherwise why take it? I agree that they maybe felt they had no choice but I also think the attitude is, 'well, worse comes to worse we close down competition to our MMOs by taking it in house. If it has to close we have still removed the competition.'

It would be interesting to know if any of the MMOs they took over are still running and if not how long did they all last for?

“Some “ players complain when game companies don’t take a chance. So they sometimes do and sometimes it doesn’t work out.

Do you really believe, for a moment they developed City of Heroes knowing they would close it?

Not sure what you mean by “removing the competition?

Class switching systems has existed like forever in several single player RPGs as also MMOs and Online RPGs.
It's stupid to do as if it's something totally new or invented by NCSoft.
Except if they did it in a particular specific way and in Archage War it is a direct copy of it, I don't see the point on fighting about it.
Also weapons systems, group mechanics and practically almost everything else are common stuff we can find in many various MMOs, Online RPGs and Offline Co-Op or Single Player RPGs aswell.

These are mostly basic systems used by everyone and their grandma and almost no one reinvents the wheel to change them since they always have been working.

Part of the business case could be that in the worst case scenario, that they ended up closing CoH, a big name competitor had been removed from the market. But sure they did not buy it with that intention.

Back to by original question, after some investigating it seems Lineage and GW2 are the two MMOs NCsoft has bought and continues to develop. So to be fair their record is a mixed bag.
