Out of curiosity... where are they advertizing it?  I haven't seen any adds.

And while I don't like DDO enough to buy it (certainly not as long as they're charging a  monthly fee for half an MMO) it is a fun game and it's not REALLY a flop... 90k subscribers is 9 times the number of subscribers that AC has (if you believe sirbruce's numbers for AC) and more than 3 times the number of subscribers if you believe the numbers Turbine claims for AC (30k players).

So I'd have to say that right now DDO is their #1 game.

    but....

Where are you seeing adds for AC??   I haven't seen anything about AC other than it's finally available via D2D... (Shoulda been AGES ago).

Earlier today, I saw a banner on fileplanet for the direct2drive version of the game.

No, DDO was a flop, no denying it. 30k subscribers for Asheron's call.. for a game that was made 7 years ago when there were only a handful of MMOs existed.... AC, EQ, UO, Diablo were all the MMOs that paved the way for new MMOs to come around.

WoW has 6.5 million subscribers... with the vast player based of Dungeons & Dragons in multiple forms over the last 30 years, the potential for D&D was huge.... they launched numerous commericals on G4 almost during every show and every gaming site I've been to has had DDO banners... and they only got 100,000 at launch, and they lost 10,000 in the first month already. Thats a huge sink hole of money... thats like making a 100 million dollar film only to see about 20 million in ticket sales.

They failed because they did not listen to the beta testers and game insiders who told them that they were missing KEY character types who were player favorites in the D&D world and they were totally void of any solo content in the game. Until they release the new content patch, DDO is entire a fellowship, group based, game and no content is geared for players who like to go out solo.

Turbine has horrible timing... Matrix Online and SWG were both released during the hyper of their media frenzy... so they capitalized on the temporary spike in interest. LoTR's spike was roughly 3 years ago and growing... hell, they even missed the RE-RELEASE of the LoTR Super Duper Box set edition.

I heard a rumor that the next Turbine project is, "Dragon's Lair: Online" and then "Tron:Online". j/k
