Well here's the story. I installed Daoc that I got from CGW magazine. It supposedly has a 5 day free trial. Anyhow 2 days later I went out and bought the Shrouded Isle expansion. From my understanding of mmorpgs is that since I bought it new that it should come with a free 30 days. I played for a few more days after I installed the expansion and figured the game just isn't for me and canceled my account. So why did I get charged?

Only the original game gives you a free 30-day trial because you pay for the box. No expansion pack gives you a free trial, and Shrouded Isles is an expansion pack (i.e., you need the original game to use it).
You installed the original game software "free" from a magazine CD and got 5 free days instead of the free 30 days you would have gotten had you bought the original Dark Age Of Camelet game. After the 5 free days, your credit card was automatically charged at whatever subscription rate you chose when you set up your account.
