Yeah and i'm sure many people would, why do people pay for other places such as gamespot? because they like info on games..... i like info on mmorpg's

Although i like this place NO. I rfuse to pay for any site. IGN went on my blacklist after the started their insider crap. I don't even view their open content anymore. Same goes with gamespot. If MMORPG.com goes for that it will die i fear.
Most of the people here pay a ton for mothly fees here allready.
MMORPG.com has ads of MMORPGs wich should pay for the bandwith i think. Noone will advertise here iof only a small (paying) bunch of peope is surfing here. MMORPG.com is the most well known mmorpg place wich is NOT about a single mmorpg and that's why we see ads here.
We will offer a paid membership plan some day...but it will never restrict you from anything. Everything you have now would still be free we would just give more goodies, like
- larger free web hosting account (we are planning on a small package free to all in the future) - 50MB mailbox - access to game secrets (likely through a partnership with another secrets site) - your user would have some "special" appearance - discounts on game purchases (likely through a partnership with a software company)
You would not see us ever restrict our forums, news or game information...even sites that tried this (ie GameSpot) stopped doing it...it just does not work. What you use now will always be here and always be free.
Note the ad revenues have to do more than just pay bandwidth, they have to pay me and other expenses. I spend 8-12 hours per day (7 days a week) on this site and I have a family to support

Sounds like Craig is craving for more cash. But with all the service he's providing us for free - especially the ads are not as bad as the ones we see in other Game related sites - I think he deserves it.
Craig go for it. Very good idea. BTW this is one hell of good site for any MMORPG fans, even those who hate and kill each others for come to an agreement here from time to time. Not to mention that this is probably the only site that people will find about all the never-heard-of hidden MMORPG trying to gather crews in the desert.
I have to say no... right now at least... Even though I usually spend at least 2 hours a day on this site, I have neither the money nor the means for paying for anything. I have a question for admin, how much are we talking about paying for the membership? I mean most people said no, but noone else asked this question.

I wouldn't because I simply am unable to afford it. I'm paying for enough stuff off of my allowence. Mabey if/when I get a job this summer I'd be able to but I doubt it, I'm in need of a new computer among quite a few other things.

Nothing has really been decided on this, but it would likely be less than $3 per month ($25-$30 per year). Which is a good deal when you think of the bigger mailbox and guild hosting features...plus it would give members the option to turn off all advertising

I personally do not believe in paying for any site either, most of the best mmorpg's already cost ye atleast 10 dollars a month and I think they should consider the people who dont have access to a creditcard.
HOWEVER *here comes* I do think the option would be a good idea, letting the paying members have access to certain extra "goodies" but still letting anyone get the latest news on their favorite mmorpg.

Seems to good to be true - no restrictions to all the stuff we have now - don't expect to make any money then
We would not really do it to make a bunch of money...rather we would do it to help fund more expensive features (guild hosting being #1). We are going to try to offer a small free hosting package to all members...then give a much better version to "premium" members. The cool thing is that mutiple platinum members will be able to add their hosting points towards a single guild site. So for example (and this is totally off the top of my head, we have no real figures determined yet) having a platinum account will let you found a site with 100 guild members and 1000 visits per day...a second guild member who has platinum access can apply thier credit towards that same guild site and boost it to 200 guild members and 2000 visitors per day allowance...or something like that. Again, this is all rough planning at this point.
The features we have now (news, forums and the game list) seem to be well supported by advertising alone...so we will keep it that way. I am not sure if we can pull of the free hosting packages for all members, but we are going to try. If the bandwidth costs are too high this might be for "premium" members only.

Craig.
What I said about craving for more money thing is just to tease you.
Anyone reasonable will understand that ads alone will not be sufficient to support all the new features that you are planning to add. Hell I don't even know how you've been supporting all the current features of this site for free with ads alone all these days. I think it's good idea for the site.
This site need to expand. Add more features that reflect the change that's going on in MMORPG market.
MMORPG market is about to explode. As far as my impression goes, some of most known gaming portals are not willing to adapt to the new demand of market as lamest claim as it might sounds like. They are still stuck with old paradigm - consoles, consoles and more consoles, single player, single player and more single player, etc.
We need specialized site like MMORPG.com (although I wouldn't care how they name it) that would reflect the change or trends of this age of gaming.
Now what I would suggest you to consider is instead of charging people monthly how about charging per year or set amount of months?
Most of people, well at least some, not buying the idea of subscription fee is partially due to the fact that they don't wanna go through the hassle of paying bill every months while they can do it once for a very long period of time.
Also I would like to see this site stays to its root: MMOG.
And feature every unspotted MMORPGs around the globe however small the publisher or developer is. Give every game the equal chance of being heard and not to fade away into the shadows of big corporate names.
Actually my response was geared towards LawBringer's post
Yes, it will be a yearly fee like I stated $25-$30 per year (the less than $3 figure was a breakdown).
We do try to cover all the little guys...as you can see by looking at our list. We don't reach as far as web browser games and MUDs because we just can't cover it all and do a good job.
Also note that our roots start at MMORPG games, not MMOs or MMOG's. We do own the domain MMPG.COM - so someday you might see a broader site spawn from that domain

I just found out about this site yesterday so i have to check it out some more before i know if i want to pay for it or not, but i dont see any problems paying $2-$3 per month if it gives you something extra and maybe remove the ads. Like raising the 8kb limit on the avatars

I would, but i wont be able to,
1. because i'm too young to have a credit card(13)
2. my mom doesnt pay for my games

I would definitely pay $5-$10 a month for the additions Craig mentioned.

Craig would never have us pay to visit his site...
Anyways, the site would be dead without the people so I don't think anyone would ever make us pay. I would pay but the site would not be as full.
I would definetely pay for a platinum suscription. We could get larger avatars and stuff liek that.

I MIGHT pay for the services mentioned. But I chose no in the poll. I already pay too much for my online games, internet, etc.
But, $3 a month isn't bad at all. I could just refrain from eating a sandwich every month and pay for the service. Mmm, sandwiches....
