Its a clip of some guy emulating the SWG server... However it looks like its in an Alpha stage only. But I guess that means that theoretically if someone wanted to they could run a server without all the bad changes implemented that everyone talks about.
This is the greatest breakthrough in the history of SWG.
If they can find someone who'd be willing to run this game, or provide a server of their own...they'd be able to secure so many old SWG vets with such ease...
I applaud the fans for their overwhelming courage on this matter. It takes an unimaginable amount of determination and dedication to do something like this.
SWG emu team...if you guys get a classic server set up, I'll find you 5,000 customers/players.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
I have my doubt if they can really make a server worth playing and that somebody has the connection and computer power to host it....but ohh boy do I want it to succeed!!
First off hosting emulated server is illegal. Second even if it is done - the best experience you can get is laggy crushy and not to many players online.
Face it , as much we hate the big companies - MMORPG servers are powerful machines that cost lot of money

Im sure thousands of people would be willing to donate or pay a small amount in helping the server hosters buy better servers and connctions, I sure would.
My god, they actually are somewhere, they state on their website that they might go opensource, if they do that SOE defitenely will be gone if we talk about SWG.
afaik the only game that has successfully been emulated is UO (with perhaps the exception of some 2d korean ones). They haven't even been able to get a decent emulation of EQ1 yet, somehow I am skeptical that we'll be seeing decent SWG private servers anytime soon.

I think Linage II has a fair few servers being emulated around the world. or maybe thats not the same thing. I dunno.

Just about every Korean game ever made has a pirate server for it. That includes Lineage 2. There is a very stable, open-source EQ emulator that is up on SourceForge that I'll leave you to find yourself. The problem with EQ emulators is actually finding one. They tend to get shut down rather quickly in comparison to other pirate servers. SOE doesn't play when it comes to their cash cow. I doubt they'll really care that much about an SWG server since they've been losing money on that game for a couple of years now. As long as people still buy the box, they'll probably just look the other way. Just like EA does with UO.
Of course, EA takes ideas from the free shard community for use in OSI. Maybe SOE will do the same thing with Pirate SWG servers and make that official SWG servers worth playing on again.

You would be incorrect. SWG has had over 200k players since day 1 of release. It's never been "losing money" and if you think LEC is going to allow a pirate server to be out there you're insane. They've been known to shut down fan sites, much less pirate servers.
SWG may not have ever had 1 mil subscribers but it's always had way over 100k subscribers (and if numbers are to be believed it still does). Far more than is needed to be profitable.
Not saying either company has done a great job with SWG... it SHOULD have been the first US based MMO to hit 1 mil subscribers but saying it's losing money is crazy talk. And LEC is one of the most litigious companies on the planet. You do NOT infringe on their license.. no way, no how. And, furthermore, they have a LOT more clout with their IP than SOE does with EQ. EMU servers may get built... but they won't survive.

The stability of the emulator is irrelevant if you do not have the resources to run the server; it takes a lot of computation to run even one zone an EQ-esque game, let alone a whole server.
I heard about this a while ago, the whole "illegal" aspect has been looked into and there is some sort of way round it that means they can get away with it, there servers will apparently be in somewhere like slovakia if i remeber rightly and these places have different laws than USA/Western EU. I dont know the full story but im sure they wouldnt even bother with it if tehre wasnt a chance theyd get away with it.

I think it has something to do with renaming every item, mob, etc so the private server resembles the commercial ones in no way except for game engine. Not much fun, if you ask me...

Never happen. If he surmounts the imposing technical obsticles to doing this, SOE's lawyers will shut him down as soon as he starts asking for players. In fact, now that he's gotten publicity, they may shut him down *now*.
About the server hosting when they finish, most people should host them in europe because USA Copyright laws MEANS nothing over there as in they cant do anything because the copyrightlaws are for USA only.

CHris Mattern
SWG is not UO. SWG is Lucas Arts and they are very very stingy with thier licenses. Will be fun to watch this guy go down.
