What MMORPG should I play?

TheriexTheriex Member UncommonPosts: 8

I played Asheron's Call for a few years and now i'm looking for a game that is similar to Asheron's Call.  I like to level, build up my stats, make myself strong, get new exciting equipment and the likes.  I like to kill stuff, i dislike PvP, so any games where its involuntary i would not be interested in.

Edit: I like medieval type games, where you wear stuff like plate, chain and whatever armor and wield swords and the like.  I don't like guns and stuff.  Futuristic is not what i'm looking for.

Any ideas.

Actually im looking for the same. Played Asherons call for almost 3 years. (couple of years ago since i quit)

The stuff i like is to craft and make stuff, i remember when you had to spend some hours trying to figure out the combination for the spells and stuff. but later they made programs to do that for you.

I loved the levling system (not the XP chains) and the magic part.

World of Warcraft should meet your specs I think, tho you'd have to wait a bit for it image

    Did you guys try AC2?

You can try game for 2 weeks for free

And besides, like it or not, people do try to "win" massively multiplayer RPGs. The rules of engagement are something like this:
    * If there is a status bar, make it grow bigger
    * If there is a number, make it higher
    * If it moves, either get a mission from it or kill it

Are you looking for a game already available or one in development? You might like to try out DAoC or EQ or Horizons, or try to get one of those KO beta spots, if you are looking for something right now.

I tried AC2 at the beginning but i didnt like it. I'm looking for a game thats in the beta or that just have started. Boring to join a game thats been out some years and there is nothing to explore and see that noone else has seen.

  • neschrianeschria Member UncommonPosts: 1,406

You might want to check out Dark & Light, EQ2, WoW, and UXO then. DnL is in beta, and the others aren't all that far off, as far as I can tell. KO might be interesting too.

Horizons was just released in December. You can hop over to that forum and find out if it might be something you'd be interested in.

Horizons might be a good bet for you. You might want to take a look at it, but be forewarned that there is no usable loot that drops from critters, it's all 100% player-crafted. Also be forewarned that the game is still very new and content is a tad thin...plenty to do, just not as robust as games that have been on the market for a year plus.

Thanks, I'll take a look at some of the features for the games mentioned.  KO sounds like it might be for me.  I'll have to wait and see.  As with _Neon_, I don't like playing a game where everything has already been discovered by everyone else.

Everyone has their favorites.  I enjoy Eve-Online, and a few other games most people don't like.  I'm currently waiting for World of Warcraft and Lineage II, both promiss great crafting and they both look like they will be fun...

We'll just have to wait and see... I've been hearing good things about Final Fantasy XI, and I know you can do a lot in Star Wars Galaxies... (dancer, crafter, etc...)

Another thing I need is a game that allows like a week or two of trial time so you can at least try the game before you pay to play it.

I don't want to pay for a month of a game, play 2 days and not like the game.

  • DjinDjin Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,263

That's the only bad part, it's hard to find a free week of play... you can usually get the game at the store and it comes with a free month, if you don't like it then you don't have to pay and you just paid for the game...

It's only fair since it cost millions to make one of these games.

Well I guess my best bet is to try to get into one of these betas so I can see a game before its released.  Then if I like it I can always continue playing when it goes retail.  Only problem with that is, they don't want anyone who hasn't beta tested much before.

  • StijunStijun Member Posts: 100

Get involved in open betas since anyone can join, normally after a few open betas you'll find it easier to get into closed ones because you can supply more information relating to their testing stage.

Check out Dark Age of Camelot ... that is VERY similar to Asheron's Call only it is way better.  It has good PVP too if you go to the PVP server.

#1....i would definetly buy World of Warcraft by Blizzard Entertainment as soon as it hits the shelf..or even pre order it. It will staisfy ever need for an EPIC FANTASY game you could ever imagince. Check out the web site it has a wealth of information. http://www.blizzard.com

#2....for now you should give Everquest a try..lots of people play it and it is pretty fun..a great experience.

#3....there is a sticky in this forum of FREE MMORPGs (not the greatest but some are fun) these should keep you busy until World of Warcaft comes out...im telling you WoW will redefine your concept of a mmorpg.

  • TheriexTheriex Member UncommonPosts: 8

WoW looks like it might be interesting, but thats a while off.  The Free MMORPG's kinda suck.  I'm trying Savage Eden right now as they've recently made it free to play.  It isn't too bad, the graphics are well... not perfect, but decent.  The game is still buggy and sometimes a little confusing but i get to kill stuff, level, get new eq and stuff so thats good enough for now until something better comes along i guess.

I'm not trying to sound like an ass here, but it's people like you who get into BETAs that only play the game for a free trial and then base your judgement on it...  I like to play the game, but I also don't have a bias judgement untill a few months after the game has gone gold... plus I test the game...

When you beta test, you're suppose to try and "break" the game...  try to join a guild with a tree or sell your shoes to a fish... stupid things, but those things are what makes the game better in the end...

Well, if graphics dont mean much to you, you could try tibia..but it has a fairly small world and a very limited collection of monsters and items (you can memorize all of it ¤Ñ.¤Ñ)..It has a fairly good community i think, so if you're looking for games where you can make lots of new friends, play tibia~image

My favorite MMORPG after AC1 is probably AO (Anarchy Online).  It was the closest game I could find to AC as far as gameplay.  In some ways I think AC is better and some ways I think AO is better.

    Played these MMORPG's:
    AC1/AC2/AO/DAoC/EQ/ATITD/FFXI/UO
    Beta'd: RYL/SWG/E&B
