Guild Wars hasn't offically release system requirements but online games like this one usually have pretty demanding specs. Minimum I would say you need around a 64 MB graphics card, 512 RAM, and 1.2 Ghz. That is the minimum....recommended is usually far above that.

The game is being played on some surprisingly low end systems. P3 800's will be the approximate minimum I think (and that sort of system has been mentioned by ArenaNet previously).

Lmao Yordo, Those specs will be the recommended ones, I'll be going above the the Rec ones, way above.
Minimum Specs:
800Mhz CPU, 128-256mb RAM, 32mb GFX.
The game wouldn't be nice to play with those specs but you could still play it.

Well, those aren't my specs. Those are ones that I thought would be okay for the game to run. If they are lower, that's even better for people with lower-end PC's.

Hiya everyone I'm Baranor, and I'm alphatesting Guildwars at the moment. I can tell you a little bit about the system specs. Curently I'm running GW on an athlon 850 with 312-ish MB's of lame old SDRAM (Yes, some people still have it) and a geforce 5200, so pretty much as low spec.
The game runs perfectly alright in 1024*768 pixels. Its smooth, looks like the screenshots (actually, it looks better since everything moves ^_^)m and I have no issues due to graphics whatsoever.
So for anyone telling that you'll need a way-out-of-line system to make it function: No, you don't. Just a geforce 3 equivalens graphcard (so no geforce 4 mx-thingies), 800+mhz and some 256+MB of crappy ram.
*Disclaimer*
I am an alpha-tester at arena.net. We have been appointed "ambassadors" to share our experiences with GW, but us alpha-testers are no offical spokespersons. GW is far from done and the game, and our experiences, change on a daily basis. You are getting a view at a game being developed, not at the finished product .

Baranor,
That's great. Guild Wars is aiming for low-end system and yet supports kind of graphics those recent screenshots shed light on. Awesome.
Besides, I can't believe two ArenaNet employees in a row come to this board and provides us with some useful tips on the progress of the game. That is very very cool.
Thanks for the info.
Now I have few questions though:
In your personal opinion, can this game be released this year?
Now WoW's and Lineage 2's closed beta is announced, a lot of people are trying to sort out what to play first or even not to play, etc...
I think it would be great if you can shed some light on it.
Sorry chap, but although we alpha testers are now allowed to chat about our in-game experiences, we are very strictly bound by the NDA still, and thus you'll not get any info about release dates from me, or from any other alpha tester. So:
No comment, next question.

Baranor, I have some questions which I would love answers for, if not answers then perhaps a little clarification.
First off, I am unsure of what "type" of game Guild Wars is. By type I mean FPS "type" game, or a traditional 3-rd person perspective "type" MMORPG? Or perhaps because so many developers of this game came from the Blizzard franchise, will the player be in a static "world" view? Does game play rely on "twitch" or tactical foresight (i.e. root; nuke; nuke; root; etc)?
The interviews conducted conctantly referr to guilds going at it with each other during tournaments or perhaps quests. Can the player look forward to two large forces lining up opposite each other and making a mad rush for glory and honor, or perhaps small unorganized skirmishes relying on training and wit to acheive victory?
My last questions is this: How exactly does one become an Alpha tester? I'm not expecting to become on, I'm grounded in reality, but I have heard many people say they are either one or have been one in the past and I was just wondering how this comes about.
Thanks for your reply in the future. And remember, answer whatever you can in however much detail you can. I will no doubt have futher questions after you reply, so stay on the line.
The gameplay is 3rd person, and it requires tactical skill.
Most likely yes, lining up and small skirmishes. They are making some very itneresting PvP things at arena.net. I havent played many of them as there arent that many europe testers atm.
As for being an alpha tester: I knew someone who was in the test, and he invited me after Gaile's approval. Gaile is our alpha and beta-test manager (no beta yet), but the alpha test is invitation only so writing gaile WILL NOT HELP (not only for you, but more for anyone reading this). DO NOT WRITE GAILE ASKING HER IF YOU CAN BE LET IN.

Hi, higgsboson,
First of all, someday you must tell me the story of your name. I'm intrigued!
Secondly, yes, we will release this year. I think you'll agree the game looks great, and we're adding content at an almost alarming rate! "Wait a second, guys, I was in the middle of a quest and you tell me to restart so I can have new monsters?" It's pretty darn cool. Oh, don't worry, we won't do that after release! That's just while we're creating the game, of course.
From what I understand, we will be expanding our team a bit more in the next few months. The number of excellent developers who want to be involved with Guild Wars is really gratifying, and as you've probably noted from our Staff Pages, we have an amazing team, with even more coming on board soon.
So the short answer is: Guild Wars - Coming in 2004.

That's the short answer. The longer answer is that there are a few features that you may see a bit better on a newer card, but many of our Guild Wars Alpha Testers are using a GeForce 3, and their game experience is just fine.
I use a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 at the office. I was using a GeForce 3 at home, but when we put in a few of the special lighting and reflectivity effects, I "needed" that extra eye candy so I bought a GeForce 4 Ti 4800 for my system at home. The differences are modest, though, and the experience is good in both a game sense and a visual sense with cards such as yours.
See you in Guild Wars!

I am not a technical person, and therefore I cannot answer specifically what would be the benefit of a newer video card, except for the obvious speed and FPS improvements that come with each generation of new cards. My second computer at home has a GeForce 3, and the game still looks beautiful. The differences between the two (My GeForce 4 Ti 4800 and the GeForce 3) are very hard for me to see at all. So yes, you will see the reflectivity and lighting effects. After I upgraded I compared and both monitors and cards show the game very well indeed.
