I don't care for Anime, myself.

But there's no reason to bash it with the racial overtones.

Yeah im asian and i don't like most made-in-korea mmorpgs. Reason is cause there isn't much thing to do in the game. Hack and Slash all the way. Everyone looks the same because of the little amount of items in those games. Can't find the fun factor to make me continue playing those games for more den 2 weeks.

Despite this, i've seen people praising korean-made mmorpgs as if its the ultimate game. I think they have been blinded by the anime-style graphics. Korean game developers have good skills with graphics but their ideas really sux. I've played many korean mmorpgs and only Lineage 2 stands out.

Btw, i don't think future korean-made would be any better then those currently in the market. All game devs have to do is put in anime-style graphics in the mmorpg and its gonna do well in China/Taiwan/Korea anyway.

Listen pal. I will tell you secret. There is no such thing as Asian / Western when it comes to killing mob days after day, week after week, month after month.

You go ask some Asians the same question, they will tell you the same for W MMORPG.

Jesus, am I the only one here sick of this kind of post. The level of immaturity of this post is beyond bearable.

Dude have great cup of ST*U. Make yourself comfortable with it.

Save your words. Your post has just been wasted.

I never  said that the  other countrys dont do it as well but  not half as much and usually i can stand to play a game like DAOC for more then 2 hours with out pulling out my hair or AO i played for 4 month or AC2 there is somthing unique about  all of those.

and i dont care if your sick of this type of topic i could care less about your coffe or your opinions. dont like it go on to the next post and talk S*** there.i was asking  if it was just me who was sick of the attack of the clones.

I think many of us is sick of this silly Anime graphics and Oriental games are full of it. Lineage will be the same from what I see on screenshots. This alone will keep me away from this production.

higgsboson you have a point that Asians probably think the same about western productions but you showing even less maturity than original poster by telling him to ST*U and saying that his post is wasted.

You just wasted a good post.

And besides, like it or not, people do try to "win" massively multiplayer RPGs. The rules of engagement are something like this:
    * If there is a status bar, make it grow bigger
    * If there is a number, make it higher
    * If it moves, either get a mission from it or kill it

Despite how sick anyone can be of this type of post, its the truth that asian-made mmorpgs have nothing much to do in it. Period.

This thread is starting up flames i guess?

Hey I will make it no secret. I don't waste on a "good" post. Well I usually don't want to. Since the very day I've started counting the number of days I've been in this site, usually not that many, I've made up my mind. This isn't good post.

By all mean this sort of post is inducive to personal attack and less than inspiring remarks. I've done it myself and it usually doesn't work that well. You can't build constructive criticism based on starting remarks like "sick of all of the", "jap games - JAP", "they all suck", etc.

Got my point? Well I do have point don't I? But again, this post is wasted.

I think it really depends on what people like, some people might like more features and less leveling while other people might enjoy more leveling with less features.  Although I agree that alot of the asian games are clones (specifically the ones that look like ragnarok) but the ones that don't look like ragnarok are pretty good in my opinion.

so far I am disapointed with BiosFear, Fung Wan, Mu, FreeWorld though Knight has better game mechanics hopefully the content will improve if it is to be an ongoing subscription type rpg. But for dynamics nothing compares to WoW and EQ2 so far. Mayby Lineage2, Mythica and SigilQuest will give EQ2 some competition, can't say yet.
Many 'old-timers' having played intensly (+20 hrs / week) since UO in '97, (and the dynasaur/fossel type still "Fondly" ::=^):: remember their pen & paper type muds! Where is that 12 sided die...) are really needing something new. Hence the distraction in kitch type anahema-anemic-anime. After all there are shooters and console games to comfort those tired of the rpg hack & slash leveling treadmills.
The "racial" type slurs... well, the cultural standards are different in Korea and Japan vs even Germany, Britan or the US. Everything should not be measured to the US cultural norms. I still haven't found a Moslem type game. So all these various types of games helps one kind of get a feel for how divergent societies approach entertainment for entertainment's sake. Fun is the deciding factor. If you don't like the game you do not have to subscribe to them.
One thing I do find in the "asian" type rpg it is a good place to work if one wants to develop anti- hack skills. Because they ALL seem to delight in attacking each other (hence why pvp is so popular.)

you people dont seem to understand hte different between HOW they are played.

in Korea especially, mmorpgs are a VERY social thing.
most people cant afford computers, so they play mmorpgs at Cyber Cafe's

after school/work goto the cafe grab a coffee or juice, get on a comp, hunt with your buddies, or talk to some people around you and get a party started.

Most korean games are based on the fact that you play them in Cyber Cafes, making them more social, and they have to be simple, so people can talk, and sip there drinks/eat food, and hunt together.

Where as in Canada, US, and Europe, we play mmorpgs in our houses, and its less of a social enviroment.

The Korean mmorpgs are geared towards Koreans and other asian countries, thus the reason they dont ocme out in english, they arent geared toward our culture. Same with Western games getting translated into asian languages, the social enviroment surrounding the game is different.

Your right about the culture differences and how the games are designed around them.

    It makes me wonder though.

It's been raised concern that western cultured media has a rather negative / conflict based aspect when concerning gaming software and entertainment that is influencing the future of these cultures.  ie. Children of today are being educated and raised by violence brought on by media.

In this case gaming software, mmorpgs especially are becoming a booming market with every single title having a theme of violence to some degree. PvE or PvP and the reason for this is because there is a demand it.

Ask any gamer from the USA if they had the choice, would they like to play a Virtual Chat or "a game where you kill stuff", and I can guarentee you at least 95% will say the later. (That should leave enough room for variables) image

It is known that our military uses gaming software with their training.

With the Asian market focussing more on socialism, will there ever be a strong median where a software company can produce a MMORPG that will be popular with both cultures without having to release "culture versions"?

    1. PCs and Broadband connections are really cheap in S.Korea. Plus the highest rate of broadband usage(maybe over 98% among total connection lines(=about 27mil PCs connected), at least 1MBPS) in the world made base for jackpots of MMORPG makers. In Japan and China ppl's just got started to have broadbands, but number's growing really fast(Japan has about 15mil lines at the end of yr 2003).

%% Checking out what they do with their VDSL/ADSL/Cable modems will help you predict the future of your marketplaces.

    2. Cultural difference? Yes. East Asians have more collective cultures. But it doesn't explain why they like hack'n slash, levelling stuff. I think they like to play more speedy games. Blizzard sold half of their copies of Starcraft and Diablo only in Korea. Maybe it's related with the rapid change of their society. Where do you think the fastest changing society on this planet? It's China now. It used to be S.Korea. They got literally nothing back in 50's after the big wars. But they've done something for last several decades.

                                               - just my hypothesis.

At least they're releasing mmorpgs.  If you're sick of them, then don't play em....its that simple.

BTW, calling a Japanese person a JAP is like calling a Mexican a spic or an Italian, a Deago.  You may want to exercise a little more self-control with your words
