Still the same old crap.

- EA pissing everyone off

- SOE pissing everyone off

- Poor games released onto the public

- Bad patches

- SWG getting worse

- More bugs

- More games released with bugs.

Why are PC games released with sooo many faults and bugs? Would we buy a faulty TV etc etc.? no.

I understand exactly where you are coming from.  From lame releases, to let-down games.  We've seen them all, and SOE hoards most of them.  However, the next wave of MMORPG's to come out have really caught my attentino.  Vanguard looks to take the hardcore gamers, while games like Conan will cater to those with less time.

The one game that really has sparked my attention is Hero's Journey.  it is a game being developed by the company Simutronics, and is looking really promising.  If are you interestead in a game like this, then check out my signature below.

    They don't have a clue.

    No longer visiting MMORPG.com.

Half a year?  Heh, I feel like it's been more like half a decade, and nothing's changed.  Graphics have gotten a little better, but that's about it.

Constructing a TV is a fairly exact science, however.  Easy to do without faults, and no one's looking for the world of televisions to change, much.  Computer games are not such an exact science, and much of what can be done with MMOs remains uncharted.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

  • I feel your pain brother!

I haven't played a MMOG in 2 years...and it doesn't look like I'm going to be any time soon.

You see scaramoosh, I was born with a gene that prevents me from settling for second best...and from the way you type, looks like you've got it too. WTF is wrong with us? Why can't we just enjoy the buggy, poorly executed, third rate junk that's constantly regurgitated onto the market time and time again? Everybody else does it, why can't we?

I never imagined that having good taste could be such a curse!

And yet you spend time posting to a site dedicated to MMO gaming.

  • @ianubisi: Yeah, it's kinda like a support group...very theraputic!

Any expectation of a virtual world being released with a very minimal amount of bugs and/or problems will also need to include an expectation of that virtual world being exceptionally short on choices.

Simple reality for the programming of any application is that the more choices a user has, the more ways a user can find to "break" the intended result of an action. Part of what makes MMO gaming so compelling is the sense of freedom, but it is that same sense of freedom that opens up hundreds of variants that were never accounted for in any realistic design/QA cycle.

What I'm saying here is that the complexity of the gaming is in and of itself both the greatest part about MMOGs and also its greatest misery. Learn to live with it, or learn to live with watered down games that guide you down the rails.

There is no way to relase any sort of semi advanced software without bugs. Noone can keep track on how 500000 lines of code and how those would work together.

What makes it "worse" so to speak is when developers add new code on patches.

like ian said, if you don't like bugs make sure that the game is simple (which kinda excludes all mmos) and
were developers do not regulary add content.

Has there ever been a published piece of software that didn't have any bugs?

the bugs does not matter, what matter is how they are dealt with. errors are excusable, ignorance is not ;)
